49ers signed LB Dekoda Watson, formerly of the Broncos, to a three-year, $6-million contract.
A seventh-round pick of the Bucs in 2010, Watson has bounced around the league the last three seasons, spending time with the Cowboys, Jags, and Patriots before appearing in 16 games with the Broncos in 2016. Perhaps he will compete for a role in the 49ers' lackluster defense, but his biggest contributions have come on special teams to this point. Mar 18 - 9:42 AM

Jaguars waived LB Dekoda Watson.

CB Teddy Williams was claimed off waivers from the Bears in a corresponding roster move. A veteran reserve, Watson's release is a bit surprising since he played 35-of-62 snaps against the Cowboys, having his best game of the season, according to Pro Football Focus. He signed a three-year deal in March, taking home $1.5 million guaranteed. Watson will look for deep reserve/special teams work elsewhere. Williams is a former receiver the Cardinals converted to corner.

Jaguars SLB Dekoda Watson (groin) returned to practice Sunday.

It's his first action of camp, as he began summer on the active/PUP list following sports-hernia surgery. Coach Gus Bradley expressed optimism in Watson being ready for the season opener. He's expected to man the "Otto" position. LaRoy Reynolds has been getting the snaps there in Watson's absence.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said SLB Dekoda Watson (groin, active/PUP) could be ready for Week 1.

Watson has been sidelined since undergoing sports-hernia surgery in June. He's expected to miss the entire preseason and majority of training camp. Watson remains questionable for Jacksonville's regular season opener on September 7. LaRoy Reynolds will continue to replace Watson at the Otto linebacker spot.

Jaguars SLB Dekoda Watson is recovering from sports-hernia surgery, and expected to begin training camp on the active/PUP list.

Watson missed the majority of the Jaguars' offseason program, and finally went under the knife in "late June." He's expected to ready for Week 1. Watson is ticketed for coach Gus Bradley's "Otto" linebacker spot. Bradley describes the Otto as a "physical, athletic, versatile player who will play along the line of scrimmage." LaRoy Reynolds will take first-team reps in Watson's absence.

Jaguars LB Dekoda Watson missed most of OTAs and all of minicamp with a groin injury.

Watson missed nine OTAs and all three minicamp practices. He's been rehabbing at the facility for the past month, but still hasn't been cleared to begin training. Watson's status for the start of training camp is in question. He's expected to man the Otto linebacker spot on the strong side at the line of scrimmage. LaRoy Reynolds will get the first-team reps while Watson is out.

The Jaguars plan to use Dekoda Watson at the newly-created "Otto" linebacker spot in their defense.

Coach Gus Bradley has deleted the SAM linebacker position from the playbook and replaced it with Otto. Per Bradley, the Otto is a physical, athletic, versatile player who will play along the line of scrimmage. The Jaguars want to get more multiple in their looks and help upgrade a run defense that finished 29th in 2013. Watson is going to be asked to do a number of things on defense.

The Jaguars plan to use Dekoda Watson at strong-side linebacker.

Watson will play "Sam" backer on first and second down, and is a candidate for snaps at the "Leo" pass-rusher role in Jacksonville's sub-packages. If the Jaguars draft Buffalo's Khalil Mack at No. 3 overall, however, Watson won't end up playing much Leo. Watson should also contribute on special teams.

Jaguars signed OLB Dekoda Watson, formerly of the Buccaneers.

Watson, 26, has mostly been a special teamer in his career, but flashed potential in spot starts at strong-side linebacker down the stretch in Tampa last year. He was active against the run and is athletic enough to hold his own in coverage. Expect Watson to push hard for SLB Geno Hayes' starting job.

Free agent LB Dekoda Watson is visiting the Jaguars.

The 26-year-old appeared in 15 games last season, starting three, recording 42 tackles and two sacks. The Jaguars need upgrades at both outside linebacker spots, but need to aim higher than Watson. The Bills are also interested.

The Bucs will meet with the reps for free agent LB Dekoda Watson on Monday.

It may be their final effort to retain Watson, a solid special teamer who didn't embarrass himself when forced to play defense last season. Per beat writer Greg Auman, Watson has already drawn "strong interest from other teams."
