Jaguars SLB Dekoda Watson is recovering from sports-hernia surgery, and expected to begin training camp on the active/PUP list.
Watson missed the majority of the Jaguars' offseason program, and finally went under the knife in "late June." He's expected to ready for Week 1. Watson is ticketed for coach Gus Bradley's "Otto" linebacker spot. Bradley describes the Otto as a "physical, athletic, versatile player who will play along the line of scrimmage." LaRoy Reynolds will take first-team reps in Watson's absence. Jul 17 - 7:36 PM

Jaguars LB Dekoda Watson missed most of OTAs and all of minicamp with a groin injury.

Watson missed nine OTAs and all three minicamp practices. He's been rehabbing at the facility for the past month, but still hasn't been cleared to begin training. Watson's status for the start of training camp is in question. He's expected to man the Otto linebacker spot on the strong side at the line of scrimmage. LaRoy Reynolds will get the first-team reps while Watson is out.

The Jaguars plan to use Dekoda Watson at the newly-created "Otto" linebacker spot in their defense.

Coach Gus Bradley has deleted the SAM linebacker position from the playbook and replaced it with Otto. Per Bradley, the Otto is a physical, athletic, versatile player who will play along the line of scrimmage. The Jaguars want to get more multiple in their looks and help upgrade a run defense that finished 29th in 2013. Watson is going to be asked to do a number of things on defense.

The Jaguars plan to use Dekoda Watson at strong-side linebacker.

Watson will play "Sam" backer on first and second down, and is a candidate for snaps at the "Leo" pass-rusher role in Jacksonville's sub-packages. If the Jaguars draft Buffalo's Khalil Mack at No. 3 overall, however, Watson won't end up playing much Leo. Watson should also contribute on special teams.

Jaguars signed OLB Dekoda Watson, formerly of the Buccaneers.

Watson, 26, has mostly been a special teamer in his career, but flashed potential in spot starts at strong-side linebacker down the stretch in Tampa last year. He was active against the run and is athletic enough to hold his own in coverage. Expect Watson to push hard for SLB Geno Hayes' starting job.

Free agent LB Dekoda Watson is visiting the Jaguars.

The 26-year-old appeared in 15 games last season, starting three, recording 42 tackles and two sacks. The Jaguars need upgrades at both outside linebacker spots, but need to aim higher than Watson. The Bills are also interested.
Mar 12 - 1:07 AM

The Bucs will meet with the reps for free agent LB Dekoda Watson on Monday.

It may be their final effort to retain Watson, a solid special teamer who didn't embarrass himself when forced to play defense last season. Per beat writer Greg Auman, Watson has already drawn "strong interest from other teams."
Mar 9 - 4:20 PM

The Tampa Bay Times projects Dekoda Watson as the Bucs' starting strong-side linebacker.

Watson hasn't so much as warranted a Rotoworld blurb in nearly two years. A 2010 seventh-round pick out of Florida State, Watson played just 131 defensive snaps in 16 games last season. He'll compete with special teams ace Adam Hayward and free-agent addition Jonathan Casillas for the gig in camp.

The Bucs are designing special pass-rushing packages for backup LB Dekoda Watson.

Watson has 2 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles already this preseason. "He looks awesome right now," coach Raheem Morris said. The 2010 seventh-rounder figures to play on the majority of passing downs.

Seventh-round rookie LB Dekoda Watson is starting at SLB Sunday in place of Quincy Black (ankle).

It's the first start of Watson's career. Upgrade Mike Goodson's matchup even more. Black was averaging 5.3 tackles a game through the first half of the season.

Bucs signed seventh-round LB Dekoda Watson to a four-year contract.

Watson, a Florida State product, projects as a weak-side linebacker behind Geno Hayes. The 22-year-old was a highly productive pass rusher as a Seminole, but will focus on special teams initially with Tampa Bay.
