Eagles declared S Kurt Coleman (ribs) inactive for Sunday's Week 14 game against the Bucs.
Coleman, a human coverage bust this season, was in danger of getting benched even before his injury. He'll be replaced by special teams ace Colt Anderson. The matchup won't get much better for Josh Freeman, Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. The rest of the Eagles' inactives: QB Michael Vick, RB LeSean McCoy, RB Chris Polk, DT Mike Patterson, WR Greg Salas and OT Matt Kopa. Sun, Dec 9, 2012 11:31:00 AM

Eagles S Kurt Coleman has been diagnosed with a cartilage bruise in the sternum and rib area.

This should be the last straw for Coleman as a starter. Even if he's active for the final four games, the Eagles would be wise to see what David Sims can do in a starting role. We know that Coleman doesn't have the talent to handle the job and the Eagles are expected to make safety a priority this offseason.

Eagles S Kurt Coleman was forced from Philadelphia's Week 13 loss to the Cowboys with a bruised sternum, but X-rays came back negative.

He'll undergo an MRI on Monday. Coleman took a hard fall in the fourth quarter, and remained down for several moments before being escorted to the locker room. He had the looks of a player who will be out for Week 14, which would be unwelcome news for Philly's horrendous secondary.

Kurt Coleman has won the starting strong safety job.

O.J. Atogwe has been banged up for the majority of camp and Jaiquawn Jarrett continues to be a liability. That leaves Coleman, a 2010 seventh-rounder, next to Nate Allen. He had 78 tackles, four interceptions, five pass breakups and one forced fumble last year. Three of those picks came in Week 6 against the Redskins.

Eagles placed S Kurt Coleman (biceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Coleman appeared in all 15 games, starting 13 and compiling 54 tackles, four interceptions, and one forced fumble. He was benched early in the year in favor of Nate Allen, but regained a starting role when rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett struggled. Coleman figures to be back and healthy in 2012, but the Eagles desperately need to upgrade their safeties.

Eagles FS Kurt Coleman left Sunday's game with a biceps injury.

Jaiquawn Jarrett will take over, as Coleman has been ruled out for the game. His absence isn't a major concern with Tony Romo and Felix Jones sitting out.

The Eagles have benched FS Jarrad Page in favor of Kurt Coleman.

Page was lit up in the first five games and is coming off a stinger. Coleman began the year as a starter before being benched for Nate Allen. He's probably not going to be much of an upgrade in terms of coverage or run defense.

Eagles FS Kurt Coleman was benched in favor of Nate Allen during Sunday's loss to the Giants.

Coleman was the victim of Victor Cruz's 74-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and then found himself on the pine. It's very possible that Allen will now stick in the starting lineup going forward. This Eagles' defense has a long way to go before righting the ship.

Kurt Coleman expects to battle rookie Jaiquawn Jarrett for the starting strong safety job this summer.

Coleman, who was penciled in as the starter before the draft, has reached out to Jarrett in the past couple of months to make sure he's on the same page with the rest of the defense. Both players are starting fresh in Juan Castillo's first year as coordinator. We're giving the early edge to Jarrett, who has already drawn comparisons to Brian Dawkins.

The Philadelphia Inquirer confirms that Kurt Coleman is in line to be the Eagles' starting strong safety in 2011.

Coleman only caused one turnover (an interception) in 15 appearances (two starts) last season, but earned a longer look with nine special teams tackles and projects as a solid run-stopping safety. The Eagles are more focused on corners than Coleman's position at this point, so he's the early favorite to replace free agent Quintin Mikell across from Nate Allen.

Kurt Coleman is expected to take over the Eagles' starting free safety job after Nate Allen ruptured his patellar tendon in Week 15.

Coleman, a seventh-round pick this past year, is a sizable downgrade from Allen. There's always a chance the team brings in a veteran, but it might be too late in the season to do so. Coleman knows the defense and will likely remain the starter for the remainder of the year. IDP leaguers can safely leave Coleman on the waiver wire.

Eagles agreed to terms with seventh-round S Kurt Coleman on a four-year, $1.83 million contract.

Coleman has been missing spring practices because Ohio State remains in session. A first-team All-Big Ten pick, Coleman is lacking the speed and athleticism to make a first-year impact. He may be ticketed for the practice squad.
