Free agent S Kurt Coleman met with the Bengals at the Combine on Thursday.

Coleman also visited with the Saints on Thursday. Released by the Panthers earlier in the week, Coleman figures to draw plenty of interest as a stopgap starter. He turns 30 next month but remains a ballhawk. The Bengals could use an upgrade next to George Iloka after Shawn Williams missed a bunch of time to injury in 2017. Most teams like having three safeties these days.

Free agent S Kurt Coleman met with the Saints on Thursday.

It's Coleman's first visit since he was released by the Panthers on Monday. Letting Kenny Vaccaro walk, the Saints are in the market for safety help. Going on 30, Coleman had a shaky 12-game season with the Panthers in 2017.

Panthers released S Kurt Coleman.

The move clears $2.65 million in cap space and leaves behind $2.5 million in dead money. Signed as a flier in 2015, Coleman ended up having a career year. He remained a starter the past two seasons, but his play steadily declined. The ex-Chief and Eagle turns 30 in April. He battled some knee issues in 2017. If nothing else, Coleman will be viewed as a potential snap hog on the open market.

Panthers FS Kurt Coleman (knee) is inactive Week 7 against the Bears.

Coleman looked on track to play after a full practice Friday, but he will be held out another week. With Luke Kuechly also sidelined, the Panthers have questions on defense heading into Chicago.

Panthers FS Kurt Coleman (knee) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday.

Coleman has missed the last two games because of a sprained MCL, but this practice puts him on track to return against the Bears. "It’s just going to be a day-to-day evaluation," Coleman said. "But I’m excited with where things are headed." Colin Jones has been starting in his place.
Thu, Oct 19, 2017 09:23:00 AM's Ian Rapoport reports Panthers FS Kurt Coleman is "believed" to have a sprained MCL, and will "miss some time."

Coleman missed most of Sunday's upset over the Patriots. The team believes he could be sidelined upwards of a month. Colin Jones is the Panthers' No. 3 safety behind Coleman and Mike Adams.

Panthers FS Kurt Coleman suffered a knee injury in Sunday's game against the Patriots, and will not return.

Coleman was quickly ruled out after going down in the first half. It's a big loss for the Panthers. Colin Jones is the Panthers' No. 3 safety, and should see most of the snaps opposite Mike Adams in Coleman's absence.

Kurt Coleman will return to free safety this season.

Coleman broke out at free safety in 2015 for seven interceptions and a sack, but his playmaking took a hit as he was forced into a strong safety role last year. The addition of Mike Adams will send Coleman back home. With their corners entering year two, Captain Munnerlyn in the slot, and a more consistent safety duo, the Panthers' secondary should be a strength this year.

Panthers SS Kurt Coleman (concussion) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday.

He sat out last week's game with a concussion but should be on track to play against the Chargers. Coleman is 79th out of 89 qualifiers in PFF's safety grades.

The Panthers ruled out SS Kurt Coleman (concussion) and MLB Luke Kuechly (concussion) for Week 13 against the Seahawks.

Jimmy Graham and Doug Baldwin should go to work against a Carolina defense that is severely weakened up the middle. Coleman hasn't had a great year, but he is the Panthers' top playmaker in the secondary. Kuechly is the heart and soul of Carolina's defense. The Panthers will also be without DE Mario Addison (foot) against Seattle. Addison leads the team with nine sacks.

Panthers FS Kurt Coleman is in the league's concussion protocol.

He didn't practice on Wednesday. The Panthers are beat up on both sides of the ball right now and are quickly falling out of the playoff race. Coleman played well enough to earn a three-year extension last year but has taken a step back in 2016. He holds PFF's 11th-worst safety grade out of 86 qualifiers this season.
Wed, Nov 30, 2016 05:20:00 PM

Panthers signed FS Kurt Coleman to a three-year, $17 million extension through 2019.

Plucked off the scrap heap after a year of backing up in Kansas City, Coleman had a career year in 2015. He stuffed the stat sheet with 90 tackles, seven picks and a sack, and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 7 overall safety. His seven picks were tied for second in the league. Coleman turned 28 in April.

Panthers FS Kurt Coleman had offseason finger surgery.

It’s only notable for bookkeeping purposes. Coleman didn’t miss any time at OTAs. He’s fully healthy for his contract year.

Panthers walk-year FS Kurt Coleman is not worrying about his contract.

"It’s out of my hands," he said. "I’m trusting that both sides are going to do what’s right and what’s fair." Coleman was outstanding his first year in Carolina, recording seven interceptions and 88 tackles as a 15-game starter. GM Dave Gettleman does not put a premium on the secondary, but Coleman performed well enough to earn a new contract. Whether he will get one remains to be seen.
