Falcons re-signed restricted free agent CB Robert McClain to a one-year, $1.431 million contract.
McClain would have cost another team a seventh-round pick to sign. Barring an upgrade in the draft, he'll return as the Falcons' slot corner. Atlanta's defensive strength is in the secondary, where impressive sophomore perimeter CBs Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford play on the outside of McClain. Fri, Mar 28, 2014 06:35:00 PM

The Falcons extended an original pick tender to restricted free agent Robert McClain.

The tender is worth $1.431 million. Another team could try signing away McClain at the cost of a seventh-round pick, though we suspect it won't happen. Still a solid slot corner, McClain figures to return as Atlanta's nickel back behind the impressive young outside duo of Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford.

The Falcons prefer to keep CB Robert McClain on the inside as their nickel corner.

McClain, claimed off waivers from the Jaguars at the end of the 2011 season, blossomed into an outstanding slot corner for the Falcons last season. He appeared in 17 games, including the playoffs, and registered one interception and ten pass breakups, while grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 12 corner. Atlanta would prefer one of first-round CB Desmond Trufant or second-rounder Robert Alford to claim the starting job opposite Asante Samuel.

Jaguars waived CB Robert McClain.

The move clears space for OT William Robinson, who was claimed off waivers from the Saints Thursday. McClain did not appear in a game for the Jaguars after being signed on December 12.

Jaguars signed CB Robert McClain, formerly of the Panthers.

McClain has been out of the league after Carolina took him in the seventh round a year ago. He'll try to put something good on tape in the last three weeks.

Panthers agreed to terms with seventh-round CB Robert McClain on a four-year contract.

McClain tied for the Big East lead with four interceptions at UConn last season and earned All-Conference honors for his 12.6 yards per punt return. A high character player with speed (4.42 forty) and strength (23 reps at 225), McClain could be a late-round find for Carolina.
