Giants re-signed restricted free agent FS Stevie Brown to a one-year, $2.023 million contract.
Brown earned every penny as a first-time starter last season, rolling up 76 tackles, two forced fumbles and eight interceptions. His eight picks were second most in the NFL, behind only Tim Jennings' nine. With Kenny Phillips now an Eagle, Brown will be returning as a starter opposite Antrel Rolle. The G-Men also have Will Hill, Ryan Mundy and Tyler Sash at safety. Mar 19 - 7:49 PM

Giants assigned a second-round tender to restricted free agent FS Stevie Brown.

Brown, who played linebacker at Michigan, was a revelation in place of injured Kenny Phillips last season, recording 76 tackles, eight interceptions, and two forced fumbles across 16 games, starting 11. Phillips is a free agent and unlikely to return, making Brown the obvious candidate to replace him full time.

ESPN New York expects the Giants to tender restricted free agent S Stevie Brown a contract if a long-term agreement cannot be reached.

Plucked from the Colts after they declined to tender him a contract last offseason, Brown intercepted eight passes his first year in New York, good for second in the league. He also contributed 76 tackles, and started 11-of-16 games. Bringing Brown back is a no-brainer for the G-Men.

Giants signed S Stevie Brown, formerly of the Colts.

Brown, 24, also drew interest from the Bengals after the Colts opted against tendering him as an exclusive rights free agent. Brown isn't much of a safety prospect, but the Giants will give him a chance to win a spot on special teams.

Free agent S Stevie Brown visited the Bengals last week.

A 2010 seventh-round pick of the Raiders, Brown appeared in just eight games for the Colts last season. If the Bengals sign Brown and lose free agent Reggie Nelson, it's unlikely Brown would be viewed as a potential replacement in the secondary.

Colts placed S Stevie Brown (quadriceps) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Brown never returned to the game after sustaining a quad injury early against the Panthers. He recorded five tackles in eight games as a special teamer for the Colts.

Colts signed S Stevie Brown.

We have to wonder if Brown was battling a nagging injury just prior to the start of the season. He was an impressive special teamer and reserve safety last season, only to be cut by both the Raiders in Panthers in a four-day span. If healthy, he should stick in Indy.

Panthers waived S Stevie Brown.

Something happened in the last two days that caused the Panthers to bring back Sean Considine and dump Brown. The 2010 undrafted free agent appeared primed to win the No. 3 safety job.

Panthers claimed S Stevie Brown off waivers from the Raiders.

An undrafted but impressive rookie out of Michigan last year, Brown racked up 13 special teams tackles and saw action as Oakland's third safety. A solid 6-foot and 215 pounds, Brown ran 4.51 at his 2010 Pro Day. He shouldn't struggle to win the third safety job behind Sherrod Martin and Charles Godfrey.

Reserve safety Stevie Brown was a "revelation" as a rookie seventh-round pick, according to beat writer Paul Gutierrez.

The No. 251 overall pick showed a penchant for making plays in 15 games, starting one. Brown recorded 30 tackles with two passes defensed, mostly in substitution packages. His emergence could push veteran Hiram Eugene off the roster.

Raiders signed S Stevie Brown from their practice squad.

Despite being shuttled back and forth between the practice squad and active roster, Brown has appeared in 2-of-3 games and recorded three tackles on defense. LB Alex Joseph was signed to take Brown's practice squad spot.

Raiders signed S Stevie Brown and released OT Erik Pears.

Brown, who'd been on Oakland's practice squad, will step in as the team's No. 5 safety. Pears will be the No. 4 tackle behind Langston Walker, Mario Henderson, and Khalif Barnes.

Raiders waived S Stevie Brown.

This one came in late, as the Raiders were apparently divided on whether to cut Brown after a terrific training camp or keep second-round pick Michael Mitchell despite inferior practice performance. Al Davis had his way, and the seventh-round rookie Brown was sent packing. If Brown doesn't get claimed on waivers, he should find a place on Oakland's practice squad.
