Bills signed S Rafael Bush, formerly of the Saints, to a two-year contract.
The deal is worth "up to" $4.5 million. There's no word yet on the guarantees. Going on 31, Bush was the Saints' No. 4 safety in 2017. Perhaps he'll get an upgrade to No. 3 duties in Buffalo, but his role should be similar to what it was last season. Tue, Mar 13, 2018 04:44:00 PM

Saints signed S Rafael Bush, formerly of the Lions, to a one-year, $855,000 contract with $100,000 guaranteed.

The deal comes with an $80,000 signing bonus. Bush was the Lions' No. 3 safety last season, playing 492 snaps. Going on 30, Bush is returning to a team he played for from 2012-15. At least on paper, he's in the mix for free safety duties, but the Saints will probably give the benefit of the doubt to second-year pro Vonn Bell. The Saints used a considerable amount of three-safety alignments in 2016.

MLive reports Rafael Bush is the "clear leader in the clubhouse" for the Lions' starting strong safety job.

Glover Quin is locked in at free safety, but there is a fairly open competition between Bush, Tavon Wilson, and rookie Miles Killebrew brewing at the other safety spot. Bush appears to have the early lead, but he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career. Killebrew is the future at the position, and it would not be surprising to see him makes starts this year.

Rafael Bush is believed to have a "leg up" in the Lions' competition at strong safety.

Glover Quin is locked in as the playmaker at free safety. After losing Isa Adbul-Quddus to the Dolphins, the Lions signed Bush and Tavon Wilson before drafting Miles Killebrew in the fourth round. Bush played just 21 snaps last season before tearing his pec. In 2014, he started seven games for the Saints.

Lions GM Bob Quinn said newly-signed safeties Rafael Bush and Tavon Wilson will compete for the starting job opposite veteran Glover Quin.

Quinn added Bush and Wilson will be joined in the competition by "anybody else we may add between now and the regular season." Bush was a solid option for the Saints when on the field, but he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career. Wilson was also solid for the Patriots, but he has played just 820 defensive snaps since being taken in the second round of the 2012 draft. The Lions will need one of them to take the next step this season.

Lions signed S Rafael Bush, formerly of the Saints, to a one-year contract "worth up to" $2.4 million.

If he can stay healthy, Bush should be able to compete for a starting role in the secondary, but staying healthy has been an issue. Bush spent almost all of 2015 on injured reserve with a pectoral tear and ended 2014 on injured reserve with a broken leg. He will turn 29 in May.

The Lions will host free agent S Rafael Bush on Friday.

A special teamer, Bush (pectoral) spent almost all of 2015 on I.R.

Saints placed S Rafael Bush on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, ending his season.

It leaves the Saints' safety corps super thin as Jairus Byrd continues to battle swelling in his knee. It's the second straight season Bush has been sent to injured reserve. A broken leg landed him on I.R. after 10 games in 2014. Bush was highly ordinary before going down last year. He'll head into free agency as a 28 year old who's missed 21-of-32 games since the start of the 2013 season.

Saints S Rafael Bush suffered a torn pectoral muscle against the Cardinals Week 1.

No timetable has been released, but the injury could cost Bush the entire season. The Saints re-signed Kenny Phillips on Monday. With Jarius Byrd still out with a knee injury, Phillips could have to play meaningful snaps against the Bucs Week 2. Jameis Winston could be in for a bounce-back against a bad and getting worse defense.

Saints placed FS Rafael Bush on injured reserve with a broken leg, ending his season.

Bush started a career-high seven games this season, but largely struggled. Going on 28, Bush is signed for $1.95 million in 2015. It's possible the Saints will decide that's too steep for a No. 3 safety, though Bush's experience and relative youth are working in his favor.

Saints FS Rafael Bush has been diagnosed with a fractured tibia.

Bush suffered the injury late in Sunday's ugly loss to the Bengals. He's almost certainly done for the year. Bush has been a liability this season, but it's a huge loss for a team already missing Jairus Byrd (knee, injured reserve). It puts more pressure on struggling second-year pro Kenny Vaccaro.

Saints re-signed S Rafael Bush to a two-year, $4.5 million contract.

Bush was a restricted free agent. The offer was actually Atlanta's, but the Saints decided to match. Bush likely would have been a starter in Atlanta, but returns as the Saints' No. 3 safety behind Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro. Bush was solid in a similar role last season, making 42 tackles while excelling in coverage. He played 520 snaps. The Saints aren't resting on their laurels after Rob Ryan resuscitated a moribund defense in 2013.

Restricted free agent S Rafael Bush would prefer if the Saints didn't match the two-year, $4.5 million offer sheet he received from the Falcons.

Bush is currently the Saints' No. 3 safety and would have a much clearer path to playing time in Atlanta. He'd immediately be the favorite for the Falcons' free safety job and a playmaking upgrade over 2013 starter Thomas DeCoud. Because the Saints only tendered Bush at the original-round level, New Orleans won't be entitled to draft-pick compensation if they decide not to match the offer.

Restricted free agent S Rafael Bush signed an offer sheet with the Falcons.

The Saints have until April 8 to match. A former undrafted free agent, Bush was tendered at the original-round level. That means the Saints won't be entitled to draft-pick compensation if they decline to match. Bush was the Saints' No. 3/4 safety in 2013, and would be returning as such this season.

Saints extended the original-pick tender to restricted free agent S Rafael Bush.

That's the "low" tender of $1.431 million. Bush was an undrafted free agent, so the Saints won't be entitled to compensation if they let Bush walk. The Saints' No. 3 safety last season, Bush's return is important with Roman Harper released and Malcolm Jenkins potentially moving on in free agency.
