Browns WR David Nelson (knee surgery) isn't participating in this week's voluntary workouts.
Nelson is still rehabbing his torn ACL, but should be ready for June's mandatory minicamp. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nelson joins Greg Little and Josh Gordon to form one of the biggest receiver trios in the league. With new coach Rob Chudzinski's history of heavily utilizing the tight end, however, it's a poor bet Nelson will approach his 2011 stat line of 61/658/5 as the fourth option in the offense. Browns signed WR David Nelson to a one-year contract.

Nelson, 26, tore his right ACL in Week 1 last season after compiling a 61/658/10.8/5 stat line in Buffalo's Pistol Spread in 2011. Essentially a tight end at 6-foot-5, 220, sure-handed Nelson was the Bills' primary slot receiver, although his role in new coach Rob Chudzinski's Cleveland offense may not be determined until training camp. Nelson should be all systems go for offseason workouts. Chudzinski has never made a habit of heavily involving slot receivers in the passing game, so we don't love the Nelson fit from a fantasy perspective.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are "close" to signing free agent David Nelson.

Nelson indicated on Twitter Monday that he's nearing a deal, and the Plain Dealer likely confirmed it with Nelson's agent. The oversized slot receiver is recovering from an ACL tear. He visited Browns headquarters late last week.

Free agent David Nelson will visit the Browns on Thursday.

Recovering from a torn ACL, it will be Nelson's first visit of free agency. Two years removed from a 61-catch campaign, Nelson would man the slot for the Browns. Provided he's healthy, he'd be a nice upgrade on Jordan Norwood and Josh Cooper.
Apr 2 - 1:49 PM

Free agent WR David Nelson isn't expecting to get much interest during the first couple weeks of free agency.

"It probably will be a lengthy process for me," Nelson admitted. The Bills informed his agent last month that they weren't going to tender Nelson an offer as a restricted free agent. Nelson tore his ACL last September, but he could be a fit for a team looking for a big, sure-handed slot receiver.
Mar 7 - 2:38 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills will not tender an offer to restricted free agent WR David Nelson.

If true, Nelson will become an unrestricted free agent. Nelson is a slot receiver, but Stevie Johnson is expected to have a more prominent role there in 2013. The only other experienced receivers on the roster are second-year speedster T.J. Graham and veteran Brad Smith. Look for Buffalo to be actively searching for a top receiver in the draft and/or free agency.

The Bills "have been in touch" with restricted free agent WR David Nelson.

There have been conflicting reports on whether Nelson will be tendered. GM Buddy Nix said at the Combine that he plans reopen talks before free agency. After missing all of 2012 with an ACL tear, the Bills are considering the medical risks in keeping Nelson with little depth behind Stevie Johnson. Nelson is "hoping to be full-go" for OTAs, and is expected to be ready for training camp.
Feb 23 - 7:37 PM

Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole says the Bills are not expected to tender an offer to restricted free agent WR David Nelson.

This goes against what the Buffalo News reported just two weeks ago. Nelson tore his ACL in Week 1 last season, but he's hoping to be full-go for OTAs. Buffalo already released fellow RFA receiver Donald Jones, and Nelson could be next as they overhaul their receiving corps. He's no more than a slot guy.

The Bills are expected to tender an offer to restricted free agent WR David Nelson.

Nelson (ACL surgery) was injured in Week 1 of the regular season and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. After being used exclusively in the slot during his first three seasons, he could be asked to move outside in HC Doug Marrone's offense. The Bills currently lack receiver depth after parting ways with Donald Jones, so Nelson is a strong candidate to be re-signed.
Feb 9 - 7:38 PM

David Nelson (torn ACL) is "hoping to be full-go" for OTAs, but says he should be 100 percent by training camp.

Nelson is running routes, moving laterally, and doing plyometrics, but he isn't doing much cutting and says decelerating gives him "a little bit of an issue." Nelson tore the ACL in Week 1 this past season. An impending restricted free agent, Nelson says the Bills have already reached out to him about re-signing.
Feb 2 - 1:14 PM

Bills WR David Nelson will have surgery to repair his torn ACL on Thursday.

Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation. Since the injury occurred during Week 1, Nelson is a decent bet to be ready for 2013 training camp. He'll be a restricted free agent after this season.

Bills WR David Nelson has suffered a torn ACL, and is done for the season.

It's devastating news for a Bills' passing attack that had an awful afternoon in Sunday's blowout loss to the Jets. Buffalo will now likely turn to Donald Jones in the slot, and line up third-round rookie T.J. Graham on the outside opposite Stevie Johnson. The Bills will be in even bigger trouble if Johnson's groin woes linger like they did in 2011. The news obviously clouds Nelson's future after he posted a 61/658/5 line in his second season as an undrafted free agent out of Florida in 2011, but he won't turn 26 until November. He should bounce back. Suffering his injury in Week 1 also puts Nelson in position to be ready for camp next summer.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Bills fear David Nelson tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Jets.

"It doesn't look good right now," admitted coach Chan Gailey after the Bills were thumped by the Jets. Nelson was Buffalo's second leading receiver in 2011, behind Stevie Johnson. If he's indeed lost for the year, the Bills would figure to turn to Donald Jones in the slot with rookie T.J. Graham outside.

David Nelson sustained a potentially serious knee injury in the Bills' Week 1 loss to the Jets.

Nelson was injured away from the play during garbage time. "We don't know how bad David is, but it doesn't look good right now," coach Chan Gailey said afterward. Nelson, the Bills' primary slot receiver, is headed for an MRI on Monday.

David Nelson caught two passes for 31 yards in the Bills' Week 1 loss to the Jets.

Nelson was locked up by Bills nickel corner Kyle Wilson and saw just five targets. In garbage time, Ryan Fitzpatrick looked to Stevie Johnson, Donald Jones and Scott Chandler before Nelson. There's not much upside here heading into Week 2 against the Chiefs.
