Cardinals WR Stephen Williams suffered an injury to his right Achilles' tendon during Monday's practice.

Williams was in a walking boot on Tuesday, putting his roster spot in serious jeopardy. Even before the injury, Williams had fallen behind the likes of DeMarco Sampson and LaRon Byrd.

The Cardinals coaching staff felt like WR Stephen Williams hit a "plateau" as a rookie last season.

Translation: He regressed after a strong showing in training camp and preseason action. Early-season mental errors and a Week 5 back injury stalled his progress. By the end of the season, he was well behind fellow rookie Andre Roberts. Williams will enter next season no higher than fourth on the depth chart.

Cardinals WR Stephen Williams could be inactive for Sunday's game.

Williams is dealing with a "small fracture" in his back, but that's only a minor consideration for why he might not be active. Steve Breaston and Early Doucet will return this week, and ILB Gerald Hayes could, as well. Williams has started three games this year but has just seven catches.

Cardinals WR Stephen Williams revealed that he suffered a "small fracture" in his back during the team's Week 5 win.

He plans to practice Wednesday, and believes he'll be able to play through the pain. The undrafted rookie managed just four catches for 38 yards in two spot starts with Steve Breaston (knee) and Early Doucet (hernia) out. Williams moves back down the depth chart with Breaston, at least, set to return.

Cardinals WR Stephen Williams (back, ribs) is expected to be "OK," according to coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Williams' MRI revealed no serious damage. The Cards expect Steve Breaston (knee) and Early Doucet (sports hernia) back after their Week 6 bye. Williams will drop down the pecking order to a fourth receiver role. Breaston and Doucet are slated to resume practicing two Wednesdays from now.

Cardinals rookie WR Stephen Williams suffered injuries to his back and ribs in the team's Week 5 upset of New Orleans.

The extent is unknown, but Williams didn't reenter after catching one pass for six yards. He has the Week 6 bye to get healthy, though Steve Breaston (knee) and Early Doucet (sports hernia) are both due back in time for Week 7.

Cardinals WR Stephen Williams left Sunday's game against the Saints with a back injury.

Williams tapped out after taking a hard hit. He was getting a wrap put on his back on the sidelines, a sign that he may return to the game. The rookie caught 1-of-2 passes for six yards before the injury.

Stephen Williams caught three passes for 32 yards against the Chargers in Week 4.

Williams was targeted eight times, but poor quarterbacking did him in. He had a couple of on Antoine Cason on a bomb attempt, but Derek Anderson overshot his target by nearly 10 yards. Williams is worth a roster spot in deeper leagues, but he's a risky flex option against the Saints next week.

The Cardinals have no plans to add a veteran wide receiver, according to GM Rod Graves.

The Cards are going to roll with Stephen Williams as their No. 2 and Max Komar as their No. 3 with Steve Breaston (knee) out. Graves said the team will re-evaluate the position after this week's game against the Chargers. We expect Williams to capitalize on his opportunity and keep Graves from making a move.

Stephen Williams is the probable favorite to take over as the Cardinals' starting flanker with Steve Breaston (knee surgery) and Early Doucet (sports hernia surgery) out for the foreseeable future.

A training camp star, Williams made numerous mental errors while seeing six targets in Week 2, before playing a reduced role (two targets) in Arizona's Week 3 win over Oakland. The Cards need him now, though, and he's got the talent to capitalize. Williams is a strong bet to start at San Diego and against New Orleans in Weeks 4 and 5. He's worth grabbing in all leagues, though the undrafted rookie's inexperience and Derek Anderson's inability to consistently complete passes will make Williams a highly risky fantasy bet.

Stephen Williams caught just one pass for 11 yards in Sunday's win over the Raiders.

With Steve Breaston healthy, Williams was a virtual non-factor. He was targeted just twice and remains a mere Dynasty stash.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said WR Stephen Williams "played like a rookie" against the Falcons in Week 2.

Maybe because Williams is a rookie, and a raw one at that. The undrafted free agent pickup lined up offside on the first offensive play and then appeared to be blocking for a run when a pass play was called. Still, the fact that Cardinals stuck with Williams through this speaks volumes. He remains a deep league option and Dynasty stash.

Cardinals rookie WR Stephen Williams caught two passes for 26 yards against the Falcons in Week 2.

Perhaps the biggest development here is that Williams saw six targets to rank second on the Cardinals behind Larry Fitzgerald (12). Williams may end up being as a big, if not bigger, drain on Steve Breaston's value than Early Doucet. Derek Anderson clearly likes throwing to the 6-foot-5 rookie.

Rookie Stephen Williams will take over as the Cardinals' No. 3 receiver until Early Doucet (groin) returns.

If Doucet has a sports hernia as the Cardinals fear, Williams could keep the third receiver role for a month or longer. The impressive undrafted rookie out of Toledo is Arizona's biggest receiver, and was highly effective in camp and the preseason. The Cardinals use lots of three-wideout sets, so he's a sleeper for some big games. Grab Williams in 14-plus team leagues.
