Chargers TE Jeff Cumberland exited Friday night's preseason game with an Achilles' injury.

Cumberland pulled up while chasing down a ball in the end zone. He had to be helped off the field before riding the cart into the locker room. Non-contact injuries are never good, and it is certainly possible Cumberland ruptured his Achilles'. His status will be updated over the next couple days.
Aug 19 - 10:13 PM

Chargers signed TE Jeff Cumberland, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year contract.

Cumberland's role evaporated in OC Chan Gailey's offense last season, as the Jets used more four-wide sets and left Cumberland as an in-line blocking specialist. In San Diego, he'll compete for a role behind Antonio Gates.
Apr 4 - 7:09 PM

Free agent TE Jeff Cumberland visited the Patriots.

It's his first known visit since getting released from the Jets. Cumberland left without a deal, leading the Patriots to sign Clay Harbor. He should eventually resurface as a veteran flyer.
Mar 30 - 8:01 PM

Jets released TE Jeff Cumberland.

The Jets had the least productive tight end group in the league last season. Cumberland was scheduled to earn $1.9 million in 2016, but isn't going to see any of that. Finding a tight end is a must for Gang Green.
Mar 9 - 2:45 PM

ESPN New York expects the Jets to release TE Jeff Cumberland this offseason.

Cumberland has played behind Kellen Davis for most the year, managing just 13 targets and getting held catchless in 10-of-14 games. The tight end position isn’t valued by OC Chan Gailey, who runs the most four-wide sets in the league. The Jets would save Cumberland's entire salary ($1.9M) from releasing him.
Jan 2 - 6:07 PM

Jeff Cumberland contributed one catch for 48 yards on three targets in the Jets' Week 9 win over the Jaguars.

Cumberland broke free for a 48-yard gain in the third quarter but that was his only contribution. He won’t be on our radar next week against Buffalo.

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland (probable, concussion) will play in Sunday's game against Washington.

Cumberland practiced in full Friday and is cleared to return. Cumberland isn't a Week 6 streaming option.

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Cumberland hasn't been cleared, but is trending in the right direction. Barring a setback, Cumberland should return Sunday.

Jets declared TE Jeff Cumberland, G Willie Colon, OG Jarvis Harrison, T Ben Ijalana, LB Jamari Lattimore, WR Chris Owusu and CB Darrin Walls inactive for Week 4 against the Dolphins.

Cumberland was ruled out early in the week after suffering a concussion against the Eagles in Week 3. With Jace Amaro (shoulder) and Zach Sudfeld (ACL) already on injured reserve, the Jets are incredibly thin at tight end. Kellen Davis will start there in Week 4 with Wes Saxton serving as the backup.

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 4.

The Jets will likely turn to blocker Kellen Davis at tight end on London.
Wed, Sep 30, 2015 08:00:00 PM

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland is week to week with a concussion.

It's an extra tough week for Cumberland to be concussed, as the Jets have to make a transatlantic flight to London. We'd guess he misses Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Kellen Davis is next up on the depth chart. With Jace Amaro and Zach Sudfeld both on I.R., the Jets will likely have to sign a tight end off the street in the next 24 hours.

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland is done for the day in Week 3 with a head injury.

Very often, head injuries are concussions. Cumberland is the Jets' starting tight end in the absence of Jace Amaro, who went on I.R. toward the end of camp. Before leaving, Cumberland had two catches for 10 yards on four targets.
Sun, Sep 27, 2015 04:15:00 PM

Jets TE Jeff Cumberland caught 2-of-3 targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 17 win over the Dolphins.

Cumberland spent 2014 in a rotation with rookie Jace Amaro, finishing with a 23-247-3 receiving line. A former college wide receiver, Cumberland has been billed as a plus athlete, but does not play like it on the field and is also a liability as a blocker. The Jets signed Cumberland to a new three-year, $5.7 million contract last March, so he'll likely be back with the club in 2015. He has zero Dynasty value. The team will hope for a 2015 step forward from tight end of the future Amaro.

Jeff Cumberland caught 3-of-5 targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in New York's Week 16 loss to the Patriots.

The touchdown was Cumberland's second of the season. He enters Week 17 the owner of 21 catches.
