Former Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire announced his retirement from football.
Cesaire, who went undrafted out of Southern Connecticut State, spent all nine of his NFL seasons with the Chargers. He compiled 13 sacks and 220 tackles, mostly as backup end, before getting cut at the end of training camp this season. Cesaire's biggest contribution came in the leadership department, which makes sense because he's now aiming to latch on as an NFL assistant. Tue, Jan 22, 2013 09:56:00 AM

Chargers released DE Jacques Cesaire and waived C Colin Baxter.

Limited by ankle and knee injuries last season, Cesaire appeared in only 12 games, making just two starts. An undrafted free agent, Cesaire has been with the Bolts since 2003, tallying 217 tackles and 12.5 sacks in 125 games.

Chargers declared DE Jacques Cesaire, WR Bryan Walters, CB Shareece Wright, OT Tony Moll, DE/OLB Everette Brown and LB Nate Triplett inactive for Week 15 against the Ravens.

Amongst the league's most banged up teams all season, the Chargers enter Week 15 near full health. Cesaire remains without a return date from his ankle injury.

Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire left Sunday's Week 14 game against the Bills with an apparent left ankle injury.

Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire (knee) is out until "at least" the team's Week 6 bye.

It sounds like he has a sprained knee ligament. Cesaire was filling in for injured starter Luis Castillo, so the Bolts are thinning quickly on the defensive line. Vaughn Martin is next up on the depth chart, with Ogemdi Nwagbuo also in the mix for snaps. The Chargers will likely sign another end this week.

Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire left Sunday's game against the Chiefs in the third quarter with a knee injury.

Cesaire is a rotational lineman that got the start today with Corey Liuget sidelined. He was injured while diving over the pile at the end of a Thomas Jones run. Cesaire was unable to return.

Chargers re-signed DE Jacques Cesaire to a two-year contract.

Cesaire returns based on familiarity with San Diego's defensive scheme and to provide depth. The 31-year-old lineman shouldn't be counted on for a first-team job after the Bolts used their top draft pick on Corey Liuget. Pro Football Focus graded Cesaire below average as both a run stopper and pass rusher last year.

Free agent DE Jacques Cesaire sounds amenable to accepting a lesser role and less money to re-sign with the Chargers.

"I do want to come back to the Chargers," Cesaire said. "I love San Diego, I love the organization, I love all my teammates." Cesaire has gone the extra mile, reaching out to first-rounder Corey Liuget to offer guidance. "The last guy the Chargers drafted in the first round to replace me," Cesaire explained, "I ended up being in his wedding."

Free agent DE Jacques Cesaire is expected to lose his starting job to first-round pick Corey Liuget.

The Chargers went into the draft targeting an upgrade on Cesaire and they got it. Cesaire is a free agent that the Chargers will likely try to retain as a backup, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The San Diego Union-Tribune believes the Chargers want to replace free agent DE Jacques Cesaire in the starting lineup for 2011.

"Unless something goes differently than the Chargers foresee," beat writer Kevin Acee says, "Cesaire will no longer be their right defensive end." The Bolts are expected to target Purdue's Ryan Kerrigan and Wisconsin's J.J. Watt with the No. 18 overall pick. Cal's Cameron Jordan is also an option if he falls that far.

The Chargers "seem content" to stick with Jacques Cesaire as a starting defensive end in 2010.

Beat writer Kevin Acee compares Cesaire to a cockroach in that he can't be eradicated even if the consensus is the team could do better at his position. He's unlikely to face serious competition from Vaughn Martin or a surprise draft pick.

Chargers DE Jacques Cesaire left Sunday's win over the Bengals in the third quarter with a right elbow injury and did not return.

The San Diego Union-Tribune calls Cesaire the "spiritual leader" of the defensive line. He has 25 tackles and one sack on the season.

Jacques Cesaire (calf) didn't practice Friday, but he hopes to play on Monday night.

Cesaire missed the entire preseason, but coach Norv Turner is holding out hope that he can play. "If he can't, we have guys that can go in there and play and I feel good about it," said Turner. Cesaire is the starter opposite Luis Castillo.

Jacques Cesaire will enter training camp as the Chargers' starting left defensive end, ahead of Ryon Bingham.

Bingham is "going to be allowed to compete for the job," according to coach Norv Turner. Cesaire has extensive spot starting experience, but the Bolts like Bingham's upside. Either way, this isn't a high-production position.
