San Diego DE Joey Bosa (hamstring) missed practice on Wednesday and hasn't practiced with the team since August 30th.
Bosa missed San Diego's Week 1 loss at Kansas City and is now questionable at best for the Chargers' Week 2 matchup against Jacksonville. After coughing up 363 passing yards to Alex Smith in Week 1, the Chargers D/ST will be well off the fantasy radar this week. Sep 15 - 10:51 AM

The San Diego defense has allowed just 175.0 passing yards per game over the last four weeks.

The recent run of success has come against Brock Osweiler, Alex Smith, Ryan Tannehill, and Derek Carr but the improvement is encouraging nonetheless. This surge allowed the San Diego defense to creep into the top-10 in NFL pass defense although the Chargers went 1-3 in those four games. The Chargers D/ST is a middling Week 17 fantasy option on the road at Denver.

The San Diego defense held Miami to 231 total yards and 44 rushing yards in Week 15.

Both the total and rushing yardage allowed were season-best marks for the San Diego defense that has routinely been trampled on the ground this season. The Chargers D/ST has allowed 100 or more rushing yards in 11 of 14 games this season and will be a bottom-tier fantasy option on a short week against Oakland.

The San Diego defense is 27th among NFL teams in run defense this season, and has given up over 100 rushing yards in 11 of 13 games this season.

The last four weeks have been particularly rough, as San Diego has allowed 134.8 rushing yards per game in that span. Week 15 brings a matchup with Miami and running back Lamar Miller, who is more than capable of taking advantage of the soft Chargers defensive front if given enough opportunities. The Chargers D/ST remains off the fantasy radar this week.

The San Diego defense has record just four turnovers since Week 5.

San Diego checks-in at 29th among NFL defenses in turnovers this season, with just 11 on the year. The lack of turnovers, in addition to the fact that San Diego has held their opposition under 100 rushing yards only twice in 12 games, has hurt this defense and kept them far off the fantasy radar. The Chargers D/ST will be a bottom-tier option in Week 14 at Kansas City.

The San Diego defense has been gouged for 405.6 total yards and 29.2 points per game in their last five contests.

The Chargers won just one of those games and currently sit at 3-8 on the season. Week 13 brings the Denver Broncos to San Diego, who have run for 174.5 yards per game over the last two weeks. San Diego is 26th in the NFL in run defense, so fantasy owners should stay far from the Chargers D/ST this week.

San Diego FS Eric Weddle practiced on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday's sessions, as is listed as "probable" for Week 12.

Weddle will provide help to the back-end of the San Diego defense that has been roughed up throughout the 2015 season. The Chargers have allowed opposing passers to throw for 301.5 yards per game over their last four contests, all San Diego losses. The Chargers D/ST will have a chance to create turnovers in Week 12 as they face Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles, who is tied for second among NFL quarterbacks with 12 interceptions this season. Despite the potential for turnovers, the Chargers D/ST is not worth fantasy consideration this week on the road at Jacksonville.

San Diego linebacker Manti Te'o (foot) is expected to return to the field in Week 11 when the Chargers host the Kansas City Chiefs.

Te'o has been out since Week 5 with a foot injury and should provide help for the Chargers defense that has been largely disappointing in 2015. The San Diego defense is allowing 27.7 points per game and has created only nine turnovers in nine games this season. The Chargers D/ST won't be a viable fantasy option in Week 11, despite the return of Te'o.

San Diego CB Jason Verrett is dealing with a groin injury suffered in Monday night's loss to Chicago.

Verrett had a solid night before exiting with the groin issue. "He was playing outstanding until he opened up and couldn’t really run. He felt a grab. (His play) is what we expect out of him. To make plays like that," said FS Eric Weddle. Verrett will have the Chargers' Week 10 bye to rest before San Diego hosts Kansas City in Week 11, when the Chargers D/ST will likely be a fantasy afterthought due to their struggles in 2015.

The San Diego defense will look to bounce back from a rough Week 7 performance when they travel to Baltimore on Sunday.

The Chargers D/ST got lit up by Oakland in Week 7, allowing 37 points and 412 total yards at home. San Diego hits the road this week, as they will face Joe Flacco and the Ravens in Baltimore. The Chargers are getting killed in the running game, allowing 132.1 rushing yards per game and 5.3 yards per carry to opposing rushers. Fantasy owners would be wise to stay far from this group in Week 8.

The San Diego defense will face Oakland quarterback Derek Carr on Sunday, who leads the improved Oakland passing game.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Carr's 2015 improvement comes from the lack of pressure allowed by his offensive line. "He gets the ball out fast: at 2.33 seconds after the snap, seventh-quickest in the NFL. He is the 30th-least pressured quarterback at 25.9 percent of his dropbacks." The Raiders have allowed just nine sacks this season as their offense has shown improvement from the Oakland offenses of past seasons. Even at home, the San Diego defense will not be a viable Week 7 fantasy option due to their lack of pass rush effectiveness and struggles stopping the run.

The struggling run defense of the San Diego Chargers will face a stiff test in Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell on Monday night.

San Diego is 29th among NFL teams in run defense, allowing 126.8 yards per game this season and have given up a beefy 4.9 yards per carry to opposing rushers. In Week 5, the Chargers D/ST faces Pittsburgh running back Le'Veon Bell, who has averaged 141 total yards per game since returning from suspension. The Chargers D/ST will not be a recommended fantasy play this week.

The San Diego defense has allowed just 189.3 passing yards per game through three weeks.

The Chargers have limited Matthew Stafford, Andy Dalton, and Teddy Bridgewater so far in 2015 and will face Cleveland's Josh McCown this week. San Diego is also limiting opposing passers to just a 60 percent completion rate, a stat that bodes well with McCown and his 57.9 percent clip visiting Qualcomm Stadium this week. The Chargers are a nice streaming target and a borderline top-12 defense in Week 4.
Sat, Oct 3, 2015 10:22:00 PM

The San Diego Chargers are allowing 4.7 yards per carry on rushing attempts from opposing teams through two weeks.

The San Diego Union-Tribune also notes the Chargers defense is giving up 3.87 yards per rush before contact. Gio Bernard was the latest back to find success running on San Diego, as he wheeled his way to 123 yards on 20 carries in Week 2. With a Week 3 matchup against Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings looming, the Chargers will need to tighten up their run defense in a hurry. The San Diego D/ST is a mid-tier Week 3 fantasy option.

SS Jimmy Wilson is expected to fill-in at strong safety for San Diego this week, with SS Jahleel Addae listed as doubtful for Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Addae injured his ankle in San Diego's Week 1 win against Detroit, leaving Wilson to play alongside free safety Eric Weddle on Sunday. Chargers coach Mike McCoy told the Union-Tribune San Diego, "I think it makes it easier when you're playing back there with someone like Eric that is going to over-communicate everything." The benefit of playing with Weddle should help Wilson as he steps in, but the Chargers secondary will be challenged by Andy Dalton's top targets, A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert. The San Diego D/ST is not a recommended Week 2 start in fantasy leagues.
