Chiefs released LB Donnie Edwards.
Edwards' cap number was $6.5 million, he was only healthy enough for seven games last season, and he turns 36 in April. The minimum salary is nearly $1M for 13-year veterans, making Edwards an unattractive pickup. Teams would probably be better off signing a rookie free agent for $310,000. Chiefs placed LB Donnie Edwards (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

After a deceptive 104-tackle campaign in 2007, Edwards fell off a cliff in 2008. He turns 36 next season and will not be back at the $5 million salary he's scheduled for, no matter who's coaching the Chiefs. He may even retire.

Donnie Edwards came off the bench in his first action in four games in Week 8.

He rotated behind Pat Thomas and had four tackles. Stay away from both MLBs in Kansas City in IDP leagues now that they are splitting time.

Chiefs LB Donnie Edwards (ankle) has resumed practicing.

Whether he rejoins the starting lineup remains to be seen. The Chiefs used Demorrio Williams on the strong side and Derrick Johnson on the weak side with Edwards out. It isn't like they were great, but Edwards' age could push him down the depth chart as KC continues its losing rebuilding effort.

Chiefs WLB Donnie Edwards is expected to miss two weeks with an injured ankle.

Edwards has been steadily declining as age finally catches up to him.

Chiefs LB Donnie Edwards is expected to make his first preseason appearance Thursday.

Edwards missed the first three exhibitions with a sore hamstring. Edwards, a starting outside linebacker, and fellow LB Napoleon Harris, who lost his starting job earlier in camp, will make their preseason debuts against the Rams. Edwards' production should continue to decline this year.

Following the Chiefs' signing of Demorrio Williams, Donnie Edwards is expected to move to middle linebacker. Napoleon Harris will go to the bench.

At least the Chiefs can admit a mistake. Harris, who signed a six-year, $25 million deal last March, was not a difference maker inside. Williams on the weak side and Edwards at MLB will give Kansas City more big-play potential.

Donnie Edwards left Sunday’s game early with tightness in his left hamstring but is expected to be ready to play next week.

Edwards has made 149 consecutive starts — the fifth-longest streak in the NFL.

Donnie Edwards is expected to play strong-side linebacker in Kansas City.

The strong and weak sides can be interchangeable in Herm Edwards' scheme, but the former position normally translates to more pass-rush opportunities. Donnie will have to sift through more trash, however, which may limit his tackle total. Derrick Johnson should stay on the weak side.

Chiefs agreed to terms with linebacker Donnie Edwards on a three-year, $13.5 million contract. The deal includes $7.5 million guaranteed.

Edwards, who turns 34 in April, may not make it to the end of this deal but appears likely to step right in and start at outside linebacker in Gunther Cunningham's defense. It's uncertain whether he'll play the weak or strong side. Kansas City has overhauled its linebacking corps in free agency but added no capable starters on the interior defensive line.

The Giants are reportedly interested in free agent LB Donnie Edwards.

If the Giants meet his asking price, Edwards would step in on the weak side and be a nice stopgap while 2006 third-round pick Gerris Wilkinson develops. The Chiefs are considered the favorites to sign Edwards.

Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson acknowledged his interest in free agent linebacker Donnie Edwards on Monday.

"Everybody knows of my liking of the UCLA guy," he said of Edwards, who played at UCLA over a decade ago. Kansas City is also talking to Kawika Mitchell and seems high on former Vikings linebacker Napoleon Harris.

The Boston Herald believes New England could be interested in free agent inside linebacker Donnie Edwards.

Factors working against the prospective relationship are the 227-pound Edwards being slight for Bill Belichick's defense and that the Pats haven't spoken with Edwards' rep, Tom Condon, since Ben Watson's '04 holdout. But on paper, he'd seem a worthwhile enough addition to overcome.

Free agent linebacker Donnie Edwards' agent confirmed he's not speaking to the Chargers about an extension for his client.

"We're not doing anything (with the Chargers)," agent Tom Condon said. Edwards turns 34 next season but is still a playmaker and will attract a team looking to win now. Stephen Cooper will take his spot in San Diego.

The Eagles may reportedly show interest in impending free-agent LBs Donnie Edwards, Lance Briggs, and Adalius Thomas.

The Birds need a strong-side linebacker, but we can't imagine Baltimore not keeping Thomas. The other two are weak-side players, and unless Philly isn't satisfied with Omar Gaither, who produced as a rookie, seem unlikely options.
