Chargers released WR Richard Goodman.
Goodman was a special teamer and kick returner. Fozzy Whittaker can fill that role, allowing the Chargers to add linebacker help. In three seasons with San Diego, Goodman caught one pass and averaged 27.6 yards per kick return. Mon, Sep 2, 2013 12:37:00 PM

Chargers re-signed KR/WR Richard Goodman to a one-year, $630,000 contract.

Not an offensive threat, 26-year-old Goodman is a core special teamer in San Diego. He runs downfield on punt and kickoff coverage, and Goodman's 27.6 kick return average over the past two seasons is the league's fourth-best mark.

Chargers tendered exclusive rights free agent WR/KR Richard Goodman and LS Mike Windt.

Both will receive $540,000 salaries in 2012 and be eligible for restricted free agency in 2013. Goodman, essentially a younger version of Kassim Osgood, didn't catch a pass last season but averaged a robust 27.5 yards per kick return, including a 105-yard touchdown. He also made five special teams tackles.

Chargers waived WR Richard Goodman to make room for SS Steve Gregory (suspension).

Goodman served primarily on special teams, and wasn't ever on the fantasy radar. Gregory was San Diego's leading tackler when he went on his four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on PEDs in Week 5, and will provide an upgrade in the Bolts' secondary over Paul Oliver.

Chargers WR Richard Goodman (fingers) returned to practice Thursday.

Goodman dislocated his right ring finger and split the webbing between fingers in Wednesday's practice. He's expected to play Sunday, but only in a special teams role. Patrick Crayton and Buster Davis will do the heavy lifting at wide receiver.

Chargers WR Richard Goodman dislocated his right ring finger and split the webbing between fingers in practice Wednesday.

It's not clear if this might keep him out of Week 8. The Chargers are really banged up at receiver, though they're expected to get Legedu Naanee back. Goodman caught his first career pass in Week 7. He proceeded to place the ball on the ground after getting a knee down, but without a defender downing him as if he were back at Florida Sate. The Patriots easily recovered the loose ball.

Goodman will join LT Marcus McNeill on the active roster, replacing S C.J. Spillman and CB Fred Bennett, both of whom were cut on Monday. Goodman, a speedster, is expected to see time on special teams.
