ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Packers CB Sam Shields (concussion) is expected to be cleared in "a few more weeks."
This is at least Shields' fifth concussion since entering the league, and there were some reports he was considering retiring. Schefter reports Shields received a "good report" from a concussion specialist this week, however, and will eventually return. The Packers are on bye next week, so Shields could be targeting Week 5. Packers CB Sam Shields (concussion) is out for Week 3 against the Lions.

Shields is out indefinitely after suffering a concussion against the Jaguars in Week 1. He's been seeing a specialist. Ladarius Gunter has been filling in at right corner. As Green Bay has a Week 4 bye, the Packers figure to target Week 5 for the returns of Shields, OLB Clay Matthews, and SS Morgan Burnett.
Sep 23 - 4:21 PM

Packers CB Sam Shields is still in the concussion protocol.

Dealing with at least his fifth concussion since entering the league, Shields has reportedly gone to see a specialist. He is not going to play this week, and he could be sidelined for an extended period.

Packers CB Sam Shields (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 2.

Sep 17 - 5:21 PM

The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports Packers CB Sam Shields' (concussion) career could be in danger.

It's a highly speculative take, as Shields hasn't even been ruled out for Week 2. Shields has five concussions since entering the league. It's not clear how severe his latest one is, but it's possible he could be held out through Green Bay's Week 4 bye. The Packers fully intend on Shields returning this season.
Sep 16 - 7:39 PM

Packers CB Sam Shields (concussion) is listed as doubtful for Week 2.

Shields' scary concussion history should be worrisome for the Packers. He is their best cornerback and helped hold Allen Robinson to 72 yards on an NFL-high 15 targets in Week 1. Green Bay will presumably turn to Ladarius Gunter in nickel packages behind Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins. Shields' loss is an upgrade to Stefon Diggs' matchup on Sunday Night Football.
Sep 16 - 4:18 PM

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said CB Sam Shields is still in the concussion protocol.

Considering his concussion history, it looks unlikely Shields will play this week. His absence would be a boost to Stefon Diggs' projection.

Packers RCB Sam Shields is in the concussion protocol.

It's concerning news, as Shields miss the final three weeks of the regular season with a concussion in 2015. Shields helped limit Allen Robinson to catches on just 6-of-15 targets Sunday. He's week to week, and highly questionable for this week's game against the Vikings.

It's a big concern for Shields, who missed the final three regular season games with a concussion last year, in addition to Green Bay's playoff win over the Redskins. The Packers' top cover corner, Shields played a major role in limiting Allen Robinson to a 6-72 receiving line in Sunday's win over Jacksonville.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (questionable, concussion) made the trip to Arizona.

Shields still hasn't been cleared, but it puts him on track for Saturday night. His return would be an upgrade on the outside for Green Bay's secondary. ESPN's Rob Demovsky says Shields could have a limited role if active.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (concussion) is listed as questionable for Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Cardinals.

Jan 15 - 2:33 PM

Packers RCB Sam Shields (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday.

Shields has not practiced since suffering a concussion Week 14 against Dallas, so this session is a big step in his progression through the concussion protocol. Coach Mike McCarthy expressed hope about Shields' status Thursday, saying he was close to completing the protocol. Shields should still be considered questionable, but it sounds like he has a chance.
Jan 14 - 11:49 AM

Packers RCB Sam Shields remains in the league's concussion protocol.

Shields is looking likely to miss Saturday's Divisional Round game against the Cardinals. That would again leave Damarious Randall to start opposite Casey Hayward, with Quinten Rollins and Ladarius Gunter picking up the scraps.
