Packers declared RCB Sam Shields, WR Ty Montgomery, QB Brett Hundley, CB Quinten Rollins, LB Andy Mulumba, OG Lane Taylor and TE Kennard Backman inactive for Week 9 against the Panthers.

Shields is out with a shoulder injury. In theory, it's a boost for the Panthers' limp passing attack, but it's going to make little difference for an offense that tries to win games on the ground. Shields is week to week.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Week 9 against the Panthers.

He didn't practice all week. That usually signals an absence, though coach Mike McCarthy said he would have no issue playing Shields without any practice reps. Damarious Randall would likely start at right corner if Shields can't go.
Nov 6 - 3:39 PM

Packers RCB Sam Shields (shoulder) is considered day to day.

Shields was limited to just 11 snaps in Sunday's loss to the Broncos, but it sounds like he'll be ready to go for Week 9 against the Panthers.
Nov 2 - 2:09 PM

Packers CB Sam Shields left Sunday night's Week 8 game with a shoulder injury.

He's out for the game. Shields is dealing with an AC joint issue. Damarious Randall replaced Shields on the outside, with Micah Hyde playing in the slot.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (concussion) is listed as questionable for Week 14 against the Falcons.

Shields is still in the league's concussion protocol, but the Packers' medical staff insists he has a chance to play on Monday night. The Packers would turn to Davon House if Shields cannot go.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (concussion) missed practice again on Friday.

It's not looking good for Shields' chances of playing in Monday night's tilt versus the Falcons, although he has an extra day to get his head clear. If Shields can't play, the Packers would turn to Davon House at right corner.

Packers RCB Sam Shields suffered a concussion in Sunday's win over the Patriots.

Shields went down late in the first half on Sunday, and was replaced by Davon House. He should be considered week to week, though there's a chance he'll be ready for Week 14, as the Packers are playing on Monday Night Football.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (knee) is listed as doubtful for Week 8.

He didn't practice all week and won't play at the Superdome. It's an upgrade to Drew Brees' fantasy matchup in Sunday's projected shootout versus Green Bay.

Packers RCB Sam Shields (knee) has been ruled out for Week 7.

With LCB Tramon Williams (ankle) slated for a game-day decision, the Packers may be without both of their starting cornerbacks against red-hot Cam Newton. It's a situation for Newton and Kelvin Benjamin owners to track.

Packers CB Sam Shields left Sunday's Week 6 game against the Dolphins with a knee injury in the third quarter.

Shields and fellow CB Tramon Williams both got injured within minutes of each other. Shields' injury was strange, as he just collapsed without contact even before the play started.

Packers re-signed CB Sam Shields to a four-year, $39 million contract.

The deal includes a $12.5 million signing bonus and puts Shields among the top-three cornerbacks in the league in average annual salary. Shields will receive a total compensation of $15 million for 2014 and $21 million through his first two seasons. It's a massive sum of money for a player that's struggled with injuries each of the last two years, is a liability in run defense, and has been an inconsistent cover man. Green Bay GM Ted Thompson is betting on Shields' improvement to continue, as he played wide receiver in college and is only 26 years old. Shields will return as the No. 1 corner in a deep Packers secondary that includes Tramon Williams, Casey Hayward, and Davon House.

The Packers didn't use the franchise tag on CB Sam Shields or DT B.J. Raji before Monday afternoon's deadline.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Packers have made little progress in long-term talks with either player. The Pack have been talking with Shields' agent since January, but the sides are reportedly more than $1 million apart annually. Shields is fully expected to reach the open market.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers are "trying to give" free agent CB Sam Shields a deal worth less than $6 million annually.

Shields is believed to be seeking $7 million annually, so there's a fairly significant gap to be bridged. A deal signed by Bears CB Tim Jennings in January was worth $5.6 million per year, and Rapoport says that's where GM Ted Thompson values Shields. Shields' agent has made it clear through media reports that his client does not intend to re-sign with Green Bay before March 11.

A league source confirmed to that free agent CB Sam Shields will not sign with the Packers before the market opens on March 11.

ESPN's Adam Schefter had a similar report on Saturday, so it appears Shields' agent is spreading the news, perhaps as a negotiating ploy. The Packers won't overpay Shields with Tramon Williams, Casey Hayward, Davon House, and Micah Hyde all capable of playing prominent roles at corner. There have been whispers that Shields is seeking in the range of $25-28 million over four years.
