The Charlotte Observer considers CB Drayton Florence a "favorite" for a starting job.
This is the same Drayton Florence who was released twice in 2012. He wasn't re-signed by the Lions after missing time with a concussion and forearm injury, and struggling in the 310 snaps he managed to take the field for. Beat writer Joseph Person projects Florence to start opposite Josh Norman, with D.J. Moore and Captain Munnerlyn fighting for snaps in the slot. With only five picks, the Panthers didn't draft a corner. It's not a good situation. May 1 - 7:00 PM

Panthers signed CB Drayton Florence to a one-year contract.

This is the only kind of free agent cap-strapped Carolina can afford. Florence is 32 years old and was released twice last season, first by the Bills and more recently by the Broncos. He finished the season with Detroit, making 19 tackles across eight games. The Panthers are so thin at cornerback that Florence will be in the mix to start. He wouldn't make most other teams' rosters.

Free agent CB Drayton Florence is heading to Carolina to take a physical.

Florence appeared in just eight games last year due to forearm and concussion issues. Now 32, he's nothing more than a nickel back even when healthy.
Mar 13 - 9:26 AM

Lions CB Drayton Florence suffered a concussion in Week 11.

It was his first game back after being activated from I.R./designated for return. The Lions play the Texans on Thanksgiving morning, making Florence a long shot to be healthy on a short week. He'll likely target a Week 13 return.

Lions activated CB Drayton Florence (arm) from injured reserve designated for return.

Florence broke his right forearm in Week 2 against the 49ers. Top corner Chris Houston is listed as questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury, and Detroit needs all of the secondary help they can get. Florence will likely assume nickel duties.

Lions CB Drayton Florence is expected to be activated off I.R./designated for return in time for Week 11 against the Packers.

Top CB Chris Houston was carted off the field with an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to Minnesota, and Detroit needs all the secondary help it can get. Florence broke his right forearm in Week 2 against San Francisco. The Lions are so banged up in the back end that Florence figures to return as an immediate starter.

Lions CB Drayton Florence (forearm), designated for return on injured reserve, expects to practice when eligible next Wednesday.

The Lions can certainly use the depth with CB Jacob Lacey and SS Amari Spievey battling the aftereffects of concussions. Florence is not eligible to return to game action until Nov. 18 against the Packers.

Lions assigned CB Drayton Florence (forearm surgery) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.

It speaks to how thin the Lions are at cornerback. Florence can resume practicing in six weeks, and return in eight weeks. If things go as planned, Florence will be a reserve upon his return.

Lions CB Drayton Florence sustained a broken right forearm in the Week 2 loss to the 49ers.

Florence is out indefinitely. The good news for the Lions is that top corner Chris Houston (ankle) and safety Louis Delmas (knee) both appear close. Coach Jim Schwartz called both "day to day."

Lions CB Drayton Florence suffered a potentially "long-term" arm/hand injury in Sunday's loss.

Florence was signed after the Broncos released him at final cuts, but it's still a big blow for Detroit's injury-ravaged secondary. There will now be extra pressure on LCB Chris Houston (ankle) and CB Bill Bentley (concussion) to return in Week 3. A 10-year veteran, Florence hasn't missed a game since 2009.

Newly acquired Lions CB Drayton Florence was already getting first-team reps at Monday's practice.

Florence was just signed on Saturday. With Chris Houston (ankle) sidelined, he lined up at right corner opposite rookie Bill Bentley. Jacob Lacey and Kevin Barnes are also in the mix for snaps in this shaky secondary.

Lions signed CB Drayton Florence.

The nine-year veteran was released by the Broncos on Friday. A 16-game starter each of the past two years, Florence should be in the mix at right corner opposite Chris Houston. He's essentially replacing Alphonso Smith, who was waived Friday. Some combination of Florence, Jacob Lacey, Kevin Barnes and Bill Bentley will man the slot and left corner for Detroit in Week 1.

Broncos released CB Drayton Florence, OT Ryan Harris and WR Jason Hill.

The 31-year-old entered camp as the nickel corner, but was beaten out by Chris Harris. Florence signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract back in May. It's the second straight season Harris has been cut loose at final cuts. Hill made 25 catches for the Jaguars last season, and should draw interest as a depth signing.

Drayton Florence is working as the Broncos' nickel corner in training camp.

Florence also lined up at right corner, opposite Champ Bailey, with Tracy Porter moving inside. Despite grading out negatively in pass coverage by Pro Football Focus, Florence represents an upgrade over incumbent nickel CB Chris Harris, and will compete with Porter for snaps in the Broncos' base defense.

Broncos signed CB Drayton Florence, formerly of the Bills, to a two-year, $4.5 million contract.

Florence had also drawn interest from the Titans and Chargers. Even after losing a step in 2011, the 31-year-old can still hold his own in coverage. Florence should represent an upgrade on Chris Harris as nickelback, with Tracy Porter remaining on the outside.
