49ers signed CB Tramaine Brock to a four-year, $16 million contract extension.
The deal includes $7 million guaranteed. Brock replaced Nnamdi Asomugha as the 49ers' nickel back in Week 5 and will make his first start on Monday night against the Redskins with Tarell Brown sidelined. He's graded out as the No. 18 overall corner by Pro Football Focus this season and is currently tied for second in the NFL with four interceptions. The extension strongly indicates the 49ers view him as a starter going forward. Brock was playing under just a one-year, $1.323 million deal as an impending free agent and is now signed through 2017. Tramaine Brock has supplanted Nnamdi Asomugha as the 49ers' nickel back.

Because Carlos Rogers is a slot corner in sub-packages, Brock will be the primary left cornerback on passing downs. It's a critical position in San Francisco's defense, playing over 60 percent of the snaps. Asomugha struggled before suffering a right knee injury that cost him Week 5. Brock responded with two interceptions, including an 18-yard pick six of Matt Schaub.

Tramaine Brock will get the first opportunity to take over as the 49ers' No. 3 corner following Chris Culliver's torn ACL.

Brock, entering his fourth season out of Belhaven College, came into camp on the roster bubble, and he played just 30 defensive snaps last season. Re-signed to a one-year, $1.323 million deal, Brock's salary is lofty for a guy that doesn't play many meaningful snaps. Nnamdi Asomugha is also in the conversation as the No. 3 corner, but he's been a "mixed bag" early in camp.

The Sacramento Bee believes 49ers CB Tramaine Brock's roster spot could be in jeopardy.

Ever since a broken hand in Week 2 of the 2011 season, Brock has been limited to special teams work. He appeared in all 16 games last season, but participated in just 30 defensive snaps. Brock was re-signed to a one-year, $1.323 million contract as a restricted free agent back in March.

49ers re-signed restricted free agent CB Tramaine Brock to a one-year, $1.323 million contract.

Brock was limited to special teams in 2012, playing just 30 snaps on defense. He recorded 16 tackles and one forced fumble in 16 games. Brock is the fifth corner in San Francisco.

49ers re-signed exclusive rights free agent CB Tramaine Brock to a one-year, $540,000 contract.

An undrafted free agent in 2010, Brock opened last season as the Niners' nickel back, but a Week 2 hand injury sent him tumbling down the depth chart. He finished with just five tackles and two picks in 11 games. Brock could get another shot at nickel duties in 2012 if free agent Carlos Rogers is not re-signed.

49ers CB Tramaine Brock is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a broken right hand.

Brock opened the year as the Niners' nickel back, but has focused on special teams since being passed for that job by Shawntae Spencer two games ago. Brock's absence could also lead to more opportunities for rookie Chris Culliver.

49ers CB Tramaine Brock injured his right hand in the first quarter of Sunday's Week 2 game against Dallas.

His return is questionable. Brock is a backup cornerback and special teamer, and we'll let you know when/if we see him back on the field.

49ers signed CB Tramaine Brock off their practice squad and waived OLB Diyral Briggs.

Brock's addition gives San Francisco four healthy corners for Monday night's matchup with Drew Brees and the spread-like Saints offense. With Ahmad Brooks over his lacerated kidney, the backup Briggs was no longer needed.

49ers waived CB Tramaine Brock.

Brock's release leaves the Niners with only four healthy corners for this week's matchup against Drew Brees and the Saints. Brock was undrafted out of tiny Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
