Cowboys waived CB Bryan McCann.

McCann made a series of big plays in the second half of last season, but he fell out of favor behind Alan Ball by Week 1. His release is a sign that Terence Newman (groin) should be good to go this week against the Redskins.

Cowboys CB Bryan McCann's arrest for public intoxication came after McCann asked police to return his arrested friend's belongings.

When police failed to oblige, McCann "refused to accept the fact that no property would be released and became belligerent." The arresting officer neglected to note that McCann was a danger to self or others, which is usually the basis for a public intoxication charge in Texas. McCann is adamant that he wasn't drunk and will fight the charge.

Cowboys CB Bryan McCann released a statement on Sunday morning, denying he was intoxicated at the time of his Saturday morning arrest.

It defies believability that police would arrest and charge somebody with public intoxication unless they were clearly intoxicated, so McCann's statement is likely more semantics than anything else. All things considered, public intoxication isn't a terribly serious charge, and McCann would probably be best off just keeping quiet about it from here on out.

Cowboys CB Bryan McCann was arrested in Dallas on early Saturday morning and charged with public intoxication.

An undrafted rookie, McCann notched a pick-six and 15 tackles in nine games last season, also serving as an occasional returner. Despite the ongoing lockout, all NFL players could remain subject to the league's conduct policy pending the next Collective Bargaining Agreement. This means McCann may still have to answer to commissioner Roger Goodell about this incident.

Rookie CB Bryan McCann will be the Cowboys' primary punt returner with Dez Bryant out.

McCann has been a roller-coaster ride returner, taking back a punt 97 yards for a touchdown but also fumbling two kickoff returns. Terence Newman is expected to serve as McCann's backup returning punts while Kevin Ogletree could see some looks on kickoff returns.
