Jaguars signed FB Harvey Unga.
A former seventh-round Supplemental pick of the Bears, Unga hasn't appeared in a game since 2012. He participated in the Panthers' rookie camp on a tryout basis, but failed to earn a contract. The Jaguars are giving Unga a look at fullback after losing Bradie Ewing. WR Chad Hall was waived. Sat, Aug 16, 2014 03:29:00 PM

Free agents RB Harvey Unga, CB Pat Lee, RB Kendial Lawrence, and FB Dorin Dickerson are among 35 players participating in Panthers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Unga was a seventh-round pick by the Bears in the 2010 Supplemental draft. Lee, 30, has appeared in 47 career games but none since 2012. Dickerson can fly and play fullback, receiver, or tight end. Lawrence spent last summer with Dallas.

Bears promoted RB Harvey Unga from the practice squad.

DE Cheta Ozougwu was waived in a corresponding roster move. With Armando Allen (knee, questionable) looking shaky for Sunday, Unga could serve as the Bears' third-string back behind Matt Forte and Kahlil Bell against the Lions.

Bears waived RB Harvey Unga.

And an era ends. 25-year-old Unga generated a ton of hype among apparently bored NFL observers leading up to the 2010 supplemental draft. He wound up being taken in the seventh round and never appeared in a game. A fullback-tailback 'tweener, Unga does not possess running ability to play in the league.

Bears reinstated FB/RB Harvey Unga from the reserve/left squad list.

Unga spent all of the 2011 season on the list after leaving training camp to attend to a "personal matter" in mid-August. Unga will be squarely on the roster bubble in 2012. Most likely, he won't end up making it through final cuts.

Bears placed RB Harvey Unga on the reserve/left squad list.

It's just a procedural move that means Unga won't count against the 53-man roster until he returns to the team. Regardless, Unga is not expected to make the final roster. Leaving training camp to attend to a personal matter gave him no shot of beating out Kahlil Bell.

The Bears have removed RB Harvey Unga's nameplate from his locker-room stall.

The Bears will likely place Unga on the reserve/left squad list for the season. He opened camp as a roster long shot, and killed his chances by leaving Bourbonnais to attend to a "personal matter" in the middle of the month. Chicago's three tailbacks this year should be Matt Forte, Marion Barber, and Kahlil Bell. Chester Taylor still seems likely to be released.

Bears RB Harvey Unga has left training camp to deal with a "personal matter."

It's the second time Unga has exited Bears camp, presumably because of the same issue. A seventh-round supplemental pick last year, Unga was already behind the curve in terms of on-field skills. He won't make the 53-man roster.
Fri, Aug 19, 2011 01:39:00 PM

Bears RBs coach Tim Spencer confirmed that Harvey Unga will have to earn his way onto the roster on special teams.

Unga, a seventh-round supplemental pick a year ago, essentially had a redshirt season thanks to a preseason hamstring injury. With Chester Taylor likely back and Kahlil Bell getting tendered, there isn't room for Unga on offense.
Mon, Mar 7, 2011 10:22:00 AM

Bears placed RB Harvey Unga (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.

A total waste of a future seventh-round pick. Unga's talent fell well short of NFL-caliber to begin with, and a hamstring (likely torn) injury knocked him out for all of training camp. GM Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith had better hope their big ticket free agents pay off, because their draft pick usage is the worst in the league. Unga doesn't have a future in the NFL.

Bears RB Harvey Unga's hamstring injury may sideline him for all of the preseason.

The hamstring may be torn, an injury that'd cripple the supplemental pick's chances of making the roster. Per Monday's preseason depth chart, Unga was listed as Chicago's fourth-string "H-back." Desmond Clark is the starter.

Rookie Harvey Unga's early-camp hamstring injury is worse than the Bears originally believed.

Unga hasn't been able to practice in camp, and he wasn't around to get indoctrinated into Mike Martz's offense during offseason drills. At this point, the supplemental pick is on the outside looking in for a roster spot.

Bears signed seventh-round supplemental draft pick Harvey Unga, a running back from BYU, to a four-year contract.

Though Unga is being billed as a possible No. 3 tailback, his skill set is better cutout for a fullback in the Mike Martz offense. Martz doesn't use true lead blockers, but requires his tailbacks to have plus speed and his fullbacks to be capable pass catchers. Unga falls into the latter category.

The Chicago Sun-Times confirms that supplemental draft pick Harvey Unga will have to compete for a roster spot this summer.

Kahil Bell, Garrett Wolfe, Brandon Minor, and Unga all bring unique skill sets to the table, none of which are particularly exciting. Wolfe has an edge because of his special teams ability. Unga could end up on the practice squad.
Fri, Jul 16, 2010 09:33:00 AM

Bears selected BYU RB/FB Harvey Unga in the seventh-round of Thursday's supplemental draft.

Coordinator Mike Martz doesn't use a traditional lead blocker, but he appreciates a big back with pass catching ability. We've seen nothing to suggest that Unga will be a better prospect than tweeners such as Brian Leonard or Peyton Hillis, so fantasy owners should temper their enthusiasm for his long-term value. He may end up on the Bears' practice squad after missing an opportunity to learn Martz's complicated scheme in spring workouts.
