The Redskins will not tender restricted free agent WR/KR Brandon Banks a contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Per beat writer Rich Campbell, Banks is "not expected to return." The pint-sized returner narrowly made the roster last summer, and was stripped of return duties down the stretch. Banks has game-breaking potential on special teams, but will have a rough go of it in free agency. He doesn't help at all on offense. Mon, Mar 11, 2013 11:25:00 AM

The Washington Post "would not be surprised" if the Redskins let restricted free agents WR/KR Brandon Banks and DT Chris Baker walk.

The Redskins have been locking up their restricted free agents on Saturday, but Banks and Baker aren't expected to be tendered. Banks fell out of favor late in the season after not doing much with his opportunities, and Baker registered just 15 tackles in 14 games.

Redskins declared WR/KR Brandon Banks, WR Dezmon Briscoe, S DeJon Gomes, LB Roddrick Muckelroy, LB Vic So’oto, T Tom Compton and OG Adam Gettis inactive for Week 17 against the Cowboys.

At least on offense, the Redskins are as healthy as they've been all season. That's good news as they attempt to earn their first playoff berth since 2007-08. With the Bears' win this afternoon, the Redskins can no longer get into the postseason tournament without a victory, so tonight is truly win or go home.

Redskins declared WR/KR Brandon Banks inactive for Sunday's Week 15 game against the Browns.

Banks is a healthy scratch again, leaving Niles Paul to return kicks and Richard Crawford to return punts. Of course, the Redskins have already declared that Robert Griffin III (knee) is inactive, leaving Kirk Cousins to start and Rex Grossman to back him up. The rest of their scratches: WR Dezmon Briscoe, LB Roddrick Muckelroy, OL Josh LeRibeus, T Tom Compton and G Adam Gettis.

Redskins declared WR Brandon Banks, QB Rex Grossman, WR Dez Briscoe, LB Roddrick Muckelroy, OG Josh LeRibeus, OG Tom Compton, and OG Adam Gettis inactive for Week 14 versus the Ravens.

LT Trent Williams (thigh), ILB London Fletcher (ankle), and CB DeAngelo Hall (ankle) are all active, as expected. Banks is a surprrise inactive because he's been part of the Redskins' pistol package as a sidecar to Robert Griffin III. On the other hand, he hasn't done much with the opportunity.

WR/KR Brandon Banks has made the Redskins.

Banks will be the sixth wideout and the primary returner. Last year, he ranked 20th in the league in kickoff return average and 21st in punt return average.

The Washington Post expects WR/KR Brandon Banks to beat out Terrence Austin, Aldrick Robinson and Anthony Armstrong for the Redskins' final receiver spot.

Robinson still has practice-squad eligibility, while Armstrong has been slowed by a shoulder injury. Banks has made only one catch in three preseason games after coach Mike Shanahan said he couldn't rely on his return ability alone to hold his roster spot, but Banks offered up a timely reminder of his game-breaking ability by taking a kick 91 yards to the house against Chicago.

Redskins WR/KR Brandon Banks "struggled to get (separation)" in Thursday's preseason opener.

Banks was targeted a team-high nine times, but made just two catches for 10 yards. Coach Mike Shanahan has said Banks will not make the team as a return specialist alone. The 5-foot-7, 165-pound wideout's chances of holding his roster spot appear slim.

According to the Washington Examiner, it's "clear" third-year WR/KR Brandon Banks belongs on the Redskins' 53-man roster.

However, beat writer John Keim allows "now (Banks) must prove it in the games." Banks has legitimate playmaking ability, but is simply too small at 5-foot-7, 165 pounds to regularly contribute at wideout. He'll need a big preseason on special teams to hold his roster spot.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan informed third-year KR Brandon Banks that he'll have to contribute at wideout to make the 2012 roster.

Banks responded by adding ten pounds in the offseason, although it may not save him. Pint sized at 5-foot-7 and no heavier than 165, Banks is facing long odds to crack a wide receiver corps that was injected with upgrades this spring.

Redskins KR/PR Brandon Banks said Wednesday that his knee finally feels 100 percent.

Banks missed most of camp due to complications with the same knee he had surgically repaired in November. The Redskins kept him on the roster due to his elite return skills. Banks ranked ninth in the league in punt return average and 12th in kick return average last season.

Redskins KR/PR Brandon Banks (knee) is expected to return to practice on Sunday.

Coach Mike Shanahan expects Banks to be active for Washington's preseason finale. Although he served as the Redskins' primary punt and kick returner last season, Banks is in mild danger of losing his roster spot to Terrence Austin. As the Skins' fourth receiver, Austin has more value on offense than Banks.

Redskins KR/PR Brandon Banks is scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews for a checkup on his troublesome left knee.

Banks, a second-year undrafted free agent, has already undergone meniscus surgery as a pro. Visits to Dr. Andrews often result in further operations. Banks is on the roster bubble in Washington with Terrence Austin coming on as a receiver.

Redskins KR/PR Brandon Banks sat out Sunday's practice after having his knee drained.

Banks had knee issues last season, missing time with a torn meniscus that required surgery. He showed his explosive ability on a 58-yard kickoff return and a 19-yard punt return in the preseason opener, so his job should be safe. "I love the guy," said special teams coordinator Danny Smith. "I'll stand on the table for him."

Brandon Banks is listed as the starting punt and kick returner on the Redskins' initial depth chart.

Banks is listed as a wide receiver as well, but he's really just a return specialist. Last season, he ranked ninth in the league in punt return average at 11.3 yards and 12th in kickoff return average at 25.1 yards.
