ESPN Bucs reporter Pat Yasinskas expects George Johnson to be the starting right end opposite Jacquies Smith.
Neither player has star power, but both put together solid 2014s. Smith recorded 5.5 sacks after becoming the Bucs' starting left end midway through the season, and Johnson recorded six sacks in only 502 snaps for the Lions. Tampa Bay hopes both can improve a pass rush which recorded just 36 sacks last year. Jun 20 - 10:24 AM

Bucs acquired DE George Johnson and a 2015 seventh-round pick from the Lions in exchange for a 2015 fifth-round pick.

The Bucs signed restricted free agent Johnson to a three-year, $9 million offer sheet last week. Detroit chose to match the offer and work out a trade, simply moving up a couple rounds in the back end of the draft. Johnson is coming off a breakout, six-sack season with the Lions and joins an extremely weak Tampa Bay edge-rushing group led by former UDFA Jacquies Smith.

A third-party arbitrator has been appointed to rule on restricted free agent DE George Johnson's offer sheet.

The Lions have disputed the language in the Bucs sheet. They want to know if they have to match the de-escalators in the deal since variable payments are murky waters. The arbitrator has 10 days to rule to identify the exact terms of the sheet, leaving Johnson and both teams in limbo for now.

The Lions are disputing the offer sheet DE George Johnson signed with the Buccaneers.

The deal is worth $9 million over three years. The Lions likely have a problem with the language in the deal. The contract was sent to the NFL for approval. The deadline for Detroit to match the offer sheet is technically 4pm ET today, but it sounds like the situation could drag out another day or two.
Apr 13 - 2:59 PM

The Detroit Free Press expects the Lions to let restricted free agent DE George Johnson walk after he signed a three-year, $9 million offer sheet with the Bucs.

The Lions could have tendered Johnson at the second-round level ($2.356 million), but declined to do so. In other words, it's hard to see them committing $3 million to Johnson over each of the next three seasons.
Apr 9 - 4:33 PM

Bucs signed restricted free agent DE George Johnson to a three-year, $9 million offer sheet.

Johnson, 27, entered the league as an UDFA with the Bucs and appeared in nine games with the team from 2010-2012, recording zero sacks. He had a breakout year with the Lions last season, recording the first six sacks of his career. The Bucs are banking on Johnson being a late bloomer, but he was more than likely a product of Detroit's loaded front four. The Lions have five days to match the offer after tendering Johnson at the lowest level. They'll get no compensation if they don't match.
Apr 7 - 9:12 PM

Lions restricted free agent DE George Johnson visited the Bucs on Thursday.

It's Johnson's first-known visit. Johnson was tendered at the lowest level, which means the Lions would have the right to match any offer, but would receive no compensation if they decided to let Johnson walk. Now 27, Johnson generated six sacks across 531 snaps last season.
Apr 2 - 6:00 PM

Lions extended a one-year, $1.542 million tender to restricted free agent DE George Johnson.

It's the lowest possible tender. Johnson had six sacks despite playing a part-time role last year and could draw interest from other teams. The low-round tender guarantees the right to match any offer Johnson receives, but the Lions won't get compensation if he signs elsewhere.
Mar 6 - 7:31 PM

Lions GM Martin Mayhew said the team will tender RFA DE George Johnson.

After unsuccessful stints in Tampa Bay and Minnesota, Johnson blossomed with the Lions in 2014, recording six sacks and a career-best 29 tackles. Johnson's contract shouldn't affect Detroit's pursuit of top free agent Ndamukong Suh. Johnson is a candidate for a second-round tender.
Feb 20 - 8:43 AM

Lions signed DE George Johnson.

Johnson, 26, last appeared in a regular season game for the Vikings back in 2012. He's made just 11 career appearances, notching just seven tackles.

Vikings signed DE George Johnson from the practice squad and waived OL Mark Asper and TE Allen Reisner.

Johnson was promoted due to three Minnesota defensive ends being on the Week 16 injury report. Asper didn't play a single snap this season, while Reisner reeled in one pass for 13 yards.

Bucs placed DE George Johnson on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

The reserve lineman had to be carted to the locker room in Sunday's loss to the Saints. He tallied just two tackles in four games this season. DT John McCargo has been re-signed to take his roster spot.

Bucs DL George Johnson was forced from Sunday's game in the second quarter with a left knee injury.

Johnson was carted to the locker room just before halftime. He was ruled out for the rest of the game to start the second half.

Bucs promoted DE George Johnson from their practice squad.

Johnson didn't make the final 53 after a beastly preseason, racking up 10 tackles and three sacks in four exhibition games. The 23-year-old will add depth at defensive end, which is now needed because Da'Quan Bowers is moving inside to tackle. The Bucs are trying to make up for Gerald McCoy's high ankle sprain.

Bucs waived DE George Johnson and DB D.J. Johnson.

The former couldn't have done more to earn a roster spot than racking up 10 preseason tackles and three sacks. The Bucs will hope George clears waivers and goes on the practice squad. He can play. Johnson is a corner-slash-safety and another practice squad candidate after spending last year there.
