Tests revealed that Cowboys LT Tyron Smith has avoided a high ankle sprain.

Per CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Smith "could play" in Week 7 against the Giants. It sounds like he most likely will. Through six games, Smith has been charged with just one sack allowed by Pro Football Focus. The Cowboys can't afford to lose him after RT Doug Free suffered a 3-4 week foot injury in Week 6.

Cowboys LT Tyron Smith hurt his ankle in Week 6 and headed for an MRI on Wednesday.

Smith was actually the first offensive lineman to win Player of the Week honors since Brian Waters in 2004 thanks to his play against the Seahawks in Seattle this past week. He tried to do individual drills Wednesday, but the ankle bothered him and he was sent off for tests. Smith may be the best left tackle in football.

Cowboys signed LT Tyron Smith to an eight-year, $98 million extension.

Smith is now set to make $109 million over the next ten years, making him the second highest paid tackle in the league. The Cowboys will now turn their attention to locking up Dez Bryant, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

ESPN Dallas reports the Cowboys want to extend LT Tyron Smith "as soon as they can."

Dez Bryant's contract will take precedence, but Smith remains a candidate for an extension prior to camp. The Cowboys picked up Smith's fifth-year option in April, so he's under team control the next two seasons. Smith was a second-team All-Pro in 2013 and is expected to be seeking in excess of $11 million annually.

Going by the 2014 transition-tag numbers, Smith will be due $10.039 million in 2015. He's making $2.079 million this season. The No. 9 overall pick of the 2011 draft, Smith has missed one game in three years, and emerged as a Pro-Bowl talent on Tony Romo's blindside. Still only 23, he'll get locked up long-term sooner rather than later.

ESPN Dallas believes Cowboys LT Tyron Smith could target Joe Thomas money on a long-term extension.

Smith is entering the final year of his rookie deal, though the Cowboys hold a fifth-year option for 2015 that they'll likely exercise this spring. But a more lucrative deal should be coming Smith's way in the very near future. He just turned 23 in December; Smith was 20 when the Cowboys took him with the ninth pick in the 2011 draft. Thomas inked a seven-year, $84 million deal that included $44 million guaranteed with the Browns as a 26-year-old back in 2011. Smith is just as good, grading out as a top-two right tackle in 2011 and top-five left tackle last season at Pro Football Focus. The Cowboys hit a home run with Smith.

Cowboys LT Tyron Smith has revealed he dealt with near constant harassment from his family about money last season.

Smith was forced to file a protective order against his parents, and called the police on two of his sisters after they showed up at his house unannounced to "harass and torment" him "in the pursuit of collecting financial gain." It had to be a draining distraction for a player making the transition to the blindside, but the 22-year-old Smith still graded out positively in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Smith is a candidate to take a big step forward this season.

Cowboys LT Tyron Smith plans to bulk up to 315 pounds this season after playing closer to 305 in 2012.

"I just want to be a better run-blocker and be stronger and more physical," Smith said. "There were times last year where I felt like I was too fast and I was a little off-balanced. I just basically want to add a little weight and stay there, be fast and strong at the same time." Smith had a checkered first year on the blindside, but his play improved down the stretch. Still only 22 years old, Smith has ample room for improvement, and bulking up isn't a bad start.
