Giants signed OLB Akeem Ayers and OG John Greco.
They're depth signings that will help the Giants play out the string. With WLB Keenan Robinson (quad) headed to injured reserve, Ayers could see some immediate snaps on defense. Nov 14 - 5:05 PM

Free agent OLB Akeem Ayers worked out for the Patriots.

It's the first team Ayers has been connected to since his Colts release. Ayers played for the Patriots in 2014 and knows New England's scheme. He would be a veteran depth signing.

Colts released OLB Akeem Ayers.

Signed before last year's opener, Ayers ended up appearing in all 16 games for a defense without any depth. The Colts scarcely have more depth this year, but know there's isn't any more upside to tap with 28-year-old Ayers. He'll get workouts when teams need a linebacker.

Colts signed OLB Akeem Ayers.

A former Titan and Patriot, Ayers flopped for the Rams last season, though they had reportedly hoped to re-sign him for less money after releasing him on Saturday. He should see defensive snaps for the Colts, likely in coverage.

Rams released/waived OLB Akeem Ayers, DT Cam Thomas, OT Isaiah Battle, DT Christian Bryant, LB Brandon Chubb, TE Justice Cunningham, CB Michael Jordan, C Eric Kush, LB Cameron Lynch, RB Terrence Magee, WR Paul McRoberts, CB Marcus Roberson and DB Jabriel Washington.

Re-signed in the early days of free agency, Akyers could muster only half a sack last season. Now 27, he's becoming a bit of a journeyman. Battle was the Rams' spectacularly squandered 2015 supplemental draft pick. Kush was an entertaining presence on Hard Knocks.

Rams signed DE/OLB Akeem Ayers, formerly of the Patriots, to a two-year contract.

Ayers is an ex-Titan but has no connection to coach Jeff Fisher, who left Tennessee the year before Ayers was drafted. The 25-year-old is a hybrid stand-up edge rusher who has yet to find a real position in the NFL. He has pass-rush juice and can cover tight ends. Ayers will be a sub-package player for St. Louis.

Free agent DE/LB Akeem Ayers is currently visiting Rams Park.

St. Louis is attempting to enhance a strength, flirting with Ayers and Nick Fairley as potential supplements to an already-elite defensive front seven. Ayers seems like a good bet to land with the Rams from the standpoint that he's drawn no known interest elsewhere. He is a 25-year-old edge presence.

ESPN Rams reporter Nick Wagoner calls free agent DE/OLB Akeem Ayers "a name to keep an eye on" for St. Louis.

A 2011 second-round pick of the Titans, Ayers has a versatile skill set that would allow him to play strong-side 'backer or defensive end with the Rams. The 25-year-old sparked the Patriots' pass rush down the stretch last season after Tennessee sent Ayers to New England for a sixth-round pick.

Patriots acquired OLB Akeem Ayers from the Titans in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Per CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Pats are also getting a sixth-rounder in return. Jim Wyatt reports the deal is contingent on Ayers passing his physical. The Titans are giving up on a player who was a key cog on defense in 2011-13, but has been active just twice this season. Ayers has played only 10 snaps on defense in 2014, and apparently isn't a fit for DC Ray Horton's system. Ayers underwent surgery on both knees last offseason, but has been healthy enough to play. In the final year of his rookie contact, Ayers is an extra body for a Pats D that's taken big hits to its linebacker corps.

Titans OLB Akeem Ayers is optimistic he will be active this week against the Browns.

Ayers has been active once this season, and has yet to log a defensive snap. Ayers may not be the player he was before two separate knee operations this offseason, but he is a prototypical 3-4 outside 'backer that could add a spark to the Titans pass rush. The Titans have zero sacks from their outside linebackers this season.

Titans declared LB Akeem Ayers, QB Zach Mettenberger, WRs T.J. Graham and Kris Durham, T/G Byron Stingily, and DLs DaQuan Jones and Mike Martin inactive for Week 1 against the Chiefs.

Ayers has plummeted down the depth chart in new DC Ray Horton's 3-4 scheme, falling behind Derrick Morgan, Kam Wimbley, Shaun Phillips, and Quentin Groves.
Sun, Sep 7, 2014 11:39:00 AM

ESPN Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky believes it "feels like" OLB Akeem Ayers will be a backup rather than a key contributor off the edge in the new 3-4 defense.

If so, it's a big disappointment. Ayers would seem to fit this scheme perfectly. He's 6'3/253 with good speed and the ability to cover and get after the quarterback. It's possible Ayers may not be the same player after undergoing two separate knee operations on his patellar tendons in the offseason. Derrick Morgan, Kam Wimbley, and Shaun Phillips are ahead on the depth chart.

TitanInsider reports "there may be concerns about the timetable" of OLB Akeem Ayers' (knee surgeries) return to 100 percent.

Ayers underwent two separate knee operations in the offseason to repair both of his patellar tendons, first on his right one in January and then his left one in March. He's tentatively expected to be ready for camp, but may not be full-go at the start. Ayers plans on playing outside linebacker in DC Ray Horton's new 3-4 defense. When healthy, he can cover and get after the quarterback.

Titans SLB Akeem Ayers is recovering from surgery to both knees.

Only one procedure had previously been disclosed. Ayers had operations to "repair the patella tendon" in both knees. He underwent surgery on his right knee in January before having the left operated on six weeks later. "Day to day" for OTAs, Ayers is expected to be ready for camp.

Titans SLB Akeem Ayers (knee surgery) remains without a timetable for a return.

Speaking Tuesday, coach Ken Whisenhunt hinted Ayers won't be ready to practice before June. "Akeem is … working hard. He's been in here the last few weeks working, which he needed to do. He's making some progress." We'd still expect Ayers to gain clearance before camp, but it shouldn't be considered a given until the Titans clear up his status. They haven't disclosed the nature of his January operation.
