Free agent ILB James Farrior is considering retirement.
Farrior's agent made the disclosure in a weekend radio interview. Farrior said he intended to continue playing after being released by the Steelers in March, but he hasn't drawn any interest. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert confirmed Monday that free agent ILB James Farrior won't be resigning with Pittsburgh.

Farrior was cut in large part due to a $2.825 million salary, but also because his performance has fallen off. "When we terminated those players we felt that their time as a Steeler was over and it was time for everybody to move forward," said Colbert. "I think when they all left they know that you can never say never. But they also know that was their last time as a Steeler."

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirms that free agent ILB James Farrior wants to keep playing in 2012.

Farrior turned 37 in January and was released by the Steelers on March 3. He'd likely have to settle for a one-year minimum contract in order to continue his playing career. Farrior is not expected back in Pittsburgh no matter what.

The player rep for free agent ILB James Farrior says he's willing to return to the Steelers despite his Friday release.

"There is no doubt that he wants to play, and he wants to play here," said agent Ralph Cindrich. Cindrich added, however, "I don't see them having the room to be able to bring (Farrior) back unless they have special needs and the ability to do so." Farrior will be elsewhere if he plays a 16th NFL season.

Steelers released ILB James Farrior.

The latest veteran to go in the Steelers' salary cap purge, Farrior had been Dick LeBeau's defensive leader and signal-caller for the past decade. The 37-year-old was due $2.825 million after an up-and-down season while battling injuries. The Steelers lose valued team leaders in Farrior, Hines Ward, and Aaron Smith, but they're also churning over a roster that was simply too long in the tooth. Beat writer Gerry Dulac tweeted Thursday night to "start fitting a Steelers uniform for Dont'a Hightower" if Farrior is axed.

The agent for ILB James Farrior said Wednesday that he expects the Steelers to release his client.

"It's not a done deal, but the percentages just aren't there," said agent Ralph Cindrich. Farrior, a 15-year veteran and the Steelers' defensive captain for the last eight seasons, is due $2.825 million in 2012. All of that money would come off Pittsburgh's salary cap if he is released. The Steelers have not approached Farrior about a pay cut, and he turned 37 in January.

James Farrior is a candidate to be released prior to March 13.

Farrior, 37, is slated to make $2.82 million in 2012. Although his on-field production has waned, he's the veteran leader of the defense. The cap-strapped Steelers have a lot of tough decisions to make this offseason. Mainstays Bryant McFadden, Casey Hampton, and Larry Foote are also candidates for release.

Steelers ILB James Farrior has no plans to retire this offseason.

The 15-year veteran turns 37 next week, and his 86 tackles leave him on pace for the second-fewest since joining the Steelers in 2002. Per the Tribune-Review, Farrior is in the last year of his contract. The Steelers have decisions to make on two team leaders, as Hines Ward's future is up in the air as well.

James Farrior (calf) is active for Week 10 against the Bengals.

It's Farrior's first game in three weeks. LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) remains out, though the Steelers fully expect him to return after the Week 11 bye. Hines Ward (head) and Jerricho Cotchery (knee) are both active. Other Steelers inactives: NT Chris Hoke, WR Emmanuel Sanders, WR Arnaz Battle, OT Jamon Meredith, DE Al Woods and QB Dennis Dixon.

Steelers ILB James Farrior (calf) is listed as probable for Week 10.

Farrior will return after a two-game absence. Farrior was averaging nearly seven tackles per game before going down, so he should immediately be reinserted into IDP lineups. Stevenson Sylvester will return to special teams.

James Farrior (calf) is inactive for the Steelers' Week 9 matchup against the Ravens.

No surprises here. Fellow LB LaMarr Woodley is also inactive, as are NT Chris Hoke, WR Emmanuel Sanders, QB Dennis Dixon, OT Jamon Meredith, and LG Doug Legursky.

Steelers ILB James Farrior (calf) is expected to sit out against the Ravens this week.

He may end up missing two more weeks. Larry Foote will continue to start. With James Harrison (eye) and LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) also in doubt, the Steelers could be without three of their four starting linebackers in a key AFC North clash. Coach Mike Tomlin is talking about using more 4-3 or even 4-2 looks to compensate.

Steelers LB James Farrior (calf) will not play in Week 8 against the Patriots.

Farrior said Thursday that he would play, but the calf is still an issue. The downgrade explains why the Steelers promoted LB Mortty Ivy from their practice squad Saturday. OLBs James Harrison and Jason Worilds have also been ruled out.

Steelers ILB James Farrior will not play a full set of snaps for the remainder of the season.

Said Farrior, "I'm cool with it. I think it will help out in the long run, in November and December." Farrior and Larry Foote will rotate as the 'mack' linebacker, making it a situation to avoid in IDP leagues.

The Steelers rotated ILBs James Farrior and Larry Foote in Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Ravens.

Farrior is 36 years old and nearing the end of the line as the Steelers' onetime mainstay at left inside linebacker. "We would like to play both men, so we made a commitment early on that both men were going to play, and we stood up to that," coach Mike Tomlin said. It's a situation to avoid in IDP leagues.
