Bills DT Marcell Dareus (suspended) announced he is entering rehab.
"I feel this is the best decision for me, my family and my teammates as I move forward with my career," Dareus said. "I appreciate the support of my teammates and the Bills organization through this process." The Bills also issued a statement, saying, "We are fully supportive of Marcell and this decision to take the time he needs to seek treatment." Dareus was suspended four games for missing a drug test earlier this offseason. It is unclear if he will be ready to play when first eligible Week 5. Aug 20 - 3:03 PM

Suspended DT Marcell Dareus' four-game ban is the result of a missed drug test.

As we know from the Le'Veon Bell situation last month, a missed test is the same as a failed test in the league's eyes. It's knucklehead stuff like this that has irked coach Rex Ryan and the rest of the Bills' organization. GM Doug Whaley has been subject to criticism after signing Dareus to a seven-year, $103.2 million deal last September that doesn't wipe out the guaranteed money in the contract due to drug suspensions. Dareus loses nothing except four game checks.
Aug 17 - 12:47 PM

NFL suspended Bills NT Marcell Dareus four games for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

Dareus isn't appealing. In a statement, the Bills said they were "very disappointed," and that they have "made it clear his behavior is unacceptable." Dareus has suffered the off-the-field equivalent of bumps and bruises to this point in his career, but this is the first transgression to cost him more than a game. Still only 26, Dareus signed a seven-year, $103.2 million extension last September.
Aug 16 - 4:15 PM

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bills NT Marcell Dareus is facing a four-game suspension for another violation of the league's substance-abuse policy.

It's yet another hit for a Bills team that's been absolutely ravaged by injury and suspension this summer. Dareus served a one-game ban last season after being charged with possession of synthetic marijuana. Dareus will probably appeal the suspension, but those are rarely fruitful. With their first four games against the Ravens, Jets, Cardinals and Patriots, the Bills are in grave danger of starting 0-4.
Aug 16 - 2:39 PM

Bills NT Marcell Dareus (active/NFI) could return to practice next week.

Dareus missed the first week of camp with an undisclosed injury. He had offseason foot surgery, but participated in OTAs. Even when cleared, Dareus will likely see limited preseason snaps.
Aug 6 - 4:04 PM

Bills NT Marcell Dareus underwent surgery on his broken foot, but has been cleared for OTAs.

The fact that Dareus has been cleared just three months after going under the knife means he avoided Lisfranc or "Jones" issues. Still only 26, Dareus had another beastly campaign in 2015.
Apr 18 - 1:21 PM

Bills NT Marcell Dareus suffered a broken left foot in Buffalo's Week 17 win over the Jets.

Dareus suffered the injury in the fourth quarter, but played through it. That suggests it could be a minor break, and not a dreaded Lisfranc or "Jones" fracture. Dareus remained a force during his age-25 season, and is signed through 2021. More details about his injury should emerge as the offseason progresses.
Jan 4 - 1:58 PM

Bills NT Marcell Dareus was forced from Week 16 with a neck injury.

The Bills ruled him out for the rest of the game. The injury was originally reported as a shoulder issue, but Rex Ryan called it a neck injury after the game. Ryan added Dareus lost some feeling in his hand after the injury. He is likely done for the season.

Marcell Dareus has echoed Mario Williams' complaint about coach Rex Ryan having his defensive linemen drop back into coverage too often.

Per Pro Football Focus, Dareus has dropped back only three times this season, but Williams has on 13 different occasions. "It's not been a lot of times where there have been all four of us, full tilt, ears pined back and we're going after it," Dareus said. Despite boasting one of the league's most talented defensive lines, the Bills have only nine sacks through six games. That needs to change, and in a hurry.

Bills activated NT Marcell Dareus from the reserve/suspended list.

RB Bryce Brown was waived to clear a roster spot. The Bills' front seven was already downright scary in Sunday's upset of the Colts. Dareus' return makes it positively terrifying. The Bills host the Patriots in Week 2. Tom Brady is going to be in for a rude awakening after facing zero resistance against the Steelers in Week 1.

Profootballtalk reports Marcell Dareus' six-year extension is worth "just" $95.1 million, not the initially reported $108 million.

However, the deal does include $60 million guaranteed, $42.9 million of which is guaranteed at signing. Whichever way you slice it, Dareus is now one of the league's highest-paid defensive players.

Bills signed NT Marcell Dareus to six-year, $108 million extension through 2021.

The deal includes $60 million in guaranteed, which is just slightly more than Ndamukong Suh received from the Dolphins this offseason. It is a massive investment in a player who is suspended the first game of the season for a substance-abuse policy violation, but Dareus is simply too talented for the Bills to let go. With Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes also on big deals, the Bills have a lot of money invested in their front seven.

The Buffalo News' Vic Carucci reported the Bills will not negotiate with contract-year NT Marcell Dareus in season.

Both sides have been negotiating through the media, so giving an arbitrary deadline to a reporter is a fair negotiation strategy. The Bills have offered Dareus a six-year extension worth more than $90 million, but Dareus is looking for over $100 million. The franchise tag remains an option if the two sides cannot work out a deal.

Contract-year NT Marcell Dareus said he's "not necessarily" looking for a Ndamukong Suh-type deal.

"I'm not necessarily looking at Suh numbers," Dareus said. "I just want to be treated right." Dareus turned down a six-year, $90 million offer from Buffalo. He's likely asking for a deal in the $100 million range, but less than the $114M Suh got from Miami. Dareus is open to playing under the franchise tag in 2016, which would pay him roughly $11.2 million.
Sat, Aug 22, 2015 03:06:00 PM

Contract-year NT Marcell Dareus said he wants to remain with the Bills.

"I want to be a part of the Bills, but this is a business," Dareus said. "We're going through negotiations." Dareus balked at a reported six-year offer worth more than $90 million, saying the offer showed the Bills "don't want me." It has only taken two days for him to soften his stance considerably, and he even admitted he would sign a franchise tender if it came to that. Buffalo has a lot of money invested in their defensive line, but Dareus is a talent they cannot let get away.
