Chargers signed C Mike Pouncey to a two-year, $15 million contract.
In large part due to a lingering hip injury, Pouncey's effectiveness waned in 2017 with the Dolphins, but he is still only 28 years old and should be recovered now. Pouncey has stated he will eventually need a hip replacement. The Chargers' offensive line is shaping up, from left to right, as LT Russell Okung > LG Dan Feeney > C Pouncey > RG Forrest Lamp > RT Joe Barskdale. If the unit stays healthy, this line has a chance to be a top-ten group. Mar 19 - 5:05 PM

Free agent Mike Pouncey will visit the Chargers on Saturday.

The Chargers are the first team to meet with Pouncey after his surprise Miami release. Pouncey played all 16 games last year, but wasn't close to pre-injury form, grading outside of PFF's top-25 centers. Despite his downward trend, Pouncey is likely to command close to the $8.9 million he made in 2017.

Dolphins released C Mike Pouncey.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Pouncey requested his release, and the Dolphins will acquiesce on Thursday. This is something of a surprising development. Pouncey has serious health concerns and is coming off a down season, but he was still one of Miami's best offensive linemen. The move saves the Dolphins $7 million against the cap, but it opens up another big hole on the interior of their offensive line.
Mar 15 - 12:03 PM

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports C Mike Pouncey is expected back with the Dolphins in 2018.

Pouncey has chronically bad hips but started all 16 games in 2017 for the first time since 2012. However, he turns 29 this summer, took the most penalties among all centers last year, and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 34 center out of 38 qualifiers. Perhaps he isn't the elite talent he once was, but Miami already has offensive-line woes at both guard spots. Creating another one probably isn't in the best interest. Pouncey has a $9 million cap hit in 2018.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (concussion) returned to a full practice on Friday.

He's still listed as questionable, but this is a good sign for Pouncey's availability against the Jets. Pouncey is a true difference maker in the trenches.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey was forced from Sunday's game against the Falcons with a concussion, and will not return.

Pouncey went down on the final drive of the first half, and was ruled out after halftime. Second-year UDFA is now in the game at the pivot. This is Pouncey's first documented concussion as a pro.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey said doctors expect him to need hip replacement surgery in the next "five to 10 years."

Pouncey said his hip feels "great" right now and he has been able to play the first three games of the season without incident, but he knows that can all change. "I can't predict the future," Pouncey said. "I'm listening to a doctor tell me. I feel right now, I don't need one. But we'll see." The Dolphins are managing Pouncey's practice workload to help ensure he does not suffer a setback, but it is clear the hip will be a constant worry the rest of his career.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said C Mike Pouncey (hip) will start Thursday.

Gase said Pouncey was expected to get in some preseason work, so this is not a surprise. With serious questions at guard, Pouncey's health will go a long way to determining how successful Miami's offense can be this season.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said the team plans to play Mike Pouncey (hip) in the preseason.

Gase is "not sure if it's this week or next," but the center will get in some action. The decision is not a huge surprise considering Pouncey has been working in team drills the last couple practices, but it is yet another sign his recovery is going as well as could be expected. If Miami is going to have any success on offense this season, Pouncey will need to stay on the field.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) returned to team drills at Saturday's practice.

It was his first full-squad participation since the start of camp. Pouncey declared himself fully recovered from offseason hip surgery and said there's "no doubt" he'll be ready for Week 1. Pouncey's hip problems have become chronic. His presence in the Dolphins' lineup is a true difference maker on the field.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) is working on the side at the start of camp.

Pouncey was medically cleared, but the Dolphins are not going to rush him. In fact, it would not be a surprise if he spent most of camp working with trainers off to the side. On the bright side, Pouncey looks to be on track for Week 1.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip) has been medically cleared for training camp.

Pouncey has battled a number of hip issues in his career and was sent to I.R. last Week 10 only to need another surgery. He's recovered nicely and appears to be ahead of schedule. Expect the Dolphins to continue to take it slow with their stud center, but he's fully expected to be out there in Week 1.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey (hip surgery) "wants to practice," but coach Adam Gase believes he could still be held out for the entire preseason.

Pouncey has made "real improvement" since minicamp. The takeaway is that Pouncey is feeling good and wanting to get on the field. The Dolphins, wisely, are not going to take any chances. Everything is geared toward having Pouncey ready for Week 1. That appears realistic. It would be excellent news for Jay Ajayi.

Dolphins C Mike Pouncey will have his surgically repaired hip examined next week.

Pouncey is hoping to be cleared for training camp, but may be placed on active/PUP regardless. The Dolphins aren't taking any chances after Pouncey missed all but five games last year. Pouncey is doubtful to get many preseason reps, but remains on track for Week 1.
Fri, Jul 21, 2017 06:01:00 PM

A source "very close" to Mike Pouncey (hip) told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald the center will be ready for Week 1 "barring an unexpected setback."

The news around Pouncey has been mostly positive over the last month, with coach Adam Gase saying he is "on a really, really good track." Still, it would not be surprising if the center misses a large chunk of training camp and the entire preseason as the Dolphins do whatever they can to keep Pouncey healthy for 16 games. If that does not happen, Miami will likely turn to Kraig Urbik, but they also contacted free agent Nick Mangold earlier this offseason.
