Jacquizz Rodgers rushed three times for two yards in the Bucs' Week 5 loss to the Patriots, adding a 13-yard reception.
With Doug Martin back, Rodgers was relegated to clear No. 2 status on early downs. Martin received 13 carries, and 14 total touches. He also looked good doing it, ensuring he'll be the Bucs' bell-cow going forward. Rodgers is droppable in 12-team leagues. Oct 6 - 12:23 AM

Date:

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 16 times for 83 yards and caught 2-of-3 targets for 25 yards in the Bucs' Week 4 win over the Giants.

In sloppy conditions, the Bucs decided to lean heavily on Rodgers early, and he responded with a 36-yard gain on the offense’s second drive, setting up a short Mike Evans touchdown. He kept it going after the break with several chunk gains on his way to 108 total yards. With Doug Martin returning this week, Rodgers' days as a fantasy starter are likely over, but he should stay involved in the offense.
Oct 1 - 8:08 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed five times for 15 yards in the Bucs' Week 3 loss to the Vikings.

Charles Sims only had three touches, and Peyton Barber had none. As Tampa Bay fell behind big from the start and was never even really competitive in this game, it should be no surprise Rodgers fell well short of pre-game fantasy expectations. Rodgers will get one more start in Week 4 against the Giants before Doug Martin returns from his three-game suspension in Week 5.
Sep 24 - 4:54 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 19 times for 67 yards in the Bucs' Week 2 win over the Bears.

Rodgers wasn't targeted in the passing game, ceding four looks to apparent third-down back Charles Sims. Rodgers took most of the second half off as the Bucs let Peyton Barber drain the clock against the hapless Bears. Rodgers did his job for fantasy owners looking for cheap volume during Doug Martin's three-game suspension. He'll remain a mid-range RB2 for next week's trip to Minnesota.
Sep 17 - 5:50 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers carried 10 times for 34 yards with one reception for 17 yards in Saturday’s preseason game.

In preparation for Doug Martin's three-game suspension to start the season, Rodgers got to work exclusively with the first-team offense. He handled every backfield carry in the opening half and had every backfield touch except for one. Rodgers had at least 17 touches in each of the five games which he was the lead back for the Buccaneers a year ago, scoring double-digit fantasy points in four of those five games. Rodgers is strictly a target for teams that have invested heavily at the wide receiver position and are looking to accrue running back starts to begin the season as he'll be a volume-based RB2 option to open the season.
Aug 26 - 9:56 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed four times for 11 yards in the Bucs' preseason opener, adding one catch for five yards.

Suspended RB Doug Martin was the starter, but Quizz worked in with the first-team offense. Rodgers remains on track to start Weeks 1-3.
Aug 11 - 8:29 PM

Bucs GM Jason Licht said the team is leaning toward using a backfield committee during Doug Martin's three-game suspension.

The reporting on Tampa Bay's backfield has been all over the map, with reports ranging from this one to Jacquizz Rodgers having a chance to steal Martin's job during the first three weeks. The reality likely falls somewhere in the middle, meaning Rodgers will work as the lead back the first three weeks with Charles Sims, fifth-round rookie Jeremy McNichols, or both serving in a complementary role. Likely a starter for at least three games, Rodgers is a good pick in the double-digit rounds.

According to ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine, Jacquizz Rodgers stands a chance at unseating suspended RB Doug Martin for the starting job.

Per Laine, "there's always the possibility that Rodgers -- whom teammates have praised for exceptional vision and toughness and coaches love for his versatility -- could win the job (over Martin)." Rodgers will get a three-game audition in Weeks 1-3 after re-signing with the Bucs for two years and $3.3 million. Martin's role when he returns from suspension is to be determined.

Jul 30 - 1:09 PM

ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine confirms the team is hoping Jacquizz Rodgers "can step in for Doug Martin these first three games."

Rodgers has mixed in with the first-team offense early in training camp. As Martin is suspended for Weeks 1-3, Rodgers is set up to start against Miami, Chicago, and Minnesota, all defenses that ranked in the bottom half of Football Outsiders' run-defense DVOA last year. Rodgers averaged well over 20 touches per game across five starts in 2016. Quizz is a very attractive fantasy pick at his double-digit-round Average Draft Position.

Jacquizz Rodgers has dropped six pounds this offseason.

The lost weight has reportedly added quickness to his game. Quizz is slated to open the year as Tampa's starter with Doug Martin suspended Weeks 1-3.

May 18 - 8:20 PM

Bucs re-signed RB Jacquizz Rodgers to a two-year, $3.3 million contract.

ESPN's Jenna Laine reports the deal will go through "barring any surprises." It is a bit unusual Rodgers is not testing the free agent waters after his best season in the NFL, but perhaps he did not like what he heard at the Combine. Re-signing Rodgers gives the Bucs some much-needed depth at running back with Doug Martin suspended for the first three games of 2017. Of course, that assumes Martin is on the roster Week 1.

Mar 7 - 10:04 AM

Bucs GM Jason Licht said he'll work to re-sign free agent Jacquizz Rodgers.

With Doug Martin suspended the first three games of 2017 and his status with the team up in the air, the Bucs at least need to consider bringing back Rodgers as reliable depth. All things considered, Rodgers was Tampa Bay's best back last season after averaging 4.3 YPC and is still just 27. He should have options, but Rodgers could opt for familiarity with coach Dirk Koetter.
Mar 1 - 11:11 AM

The Bucs have "yet to reach out" to free agent Jacquizz Rodgers.

It suggests the Bucs are prepared to move on from Rodgers. Tampa could also be waiting for the market to be set before making an offer. Despite coming off a career year, 27-year-old Rodgers shouldn't generate much free agent interest. The Bucs may view Peyton Barber as an in-house replacement.
Feb 15 - 5:31 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers had 17 carries for 75 yards and caught one pass for four yards in Week 17 against the Panthers.

Rodgers came out of nowhere to start five games with Doug Martin and Charles Sims sidelined most the year. He was the Bucs' most productive runner, averaging 4.3 YPC. The Bucs could move on from Martin this offseason, but aren't going to be counting on Rodgers as their starter. An impending free agent, Rodgers should return as depth.
Jan 1 - 4:51 PM

ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine expects Jacquizz Rodgers to get a "heavy workload" Week 17 against the Panthers.

It makes sense with Doug Martin suspended and Charles Sims (pectoral) on injured reserve, but it is still nice to get confirmation. Peyton Barber should steal some carries, but Rodgers is basically a lock for 15 touches. His worst finish this season when he gets at least 15 touches is RB18.
