Coach Mike Smith says Jacquizz Rodgers "can handle all three downs" at running back.
This reeks of coachspeak. "We thought he was only going to be a change-of-pace back," Smith said. "We found out very quickly that even though he is short, he is not little. He can handle all three downs and he does a very good job for us returning kicks." Rodgers remains best suited for passing-down work. Atlanta is expected to eye a big back in free agency or the draft to replace Michael Turner. Feb 24 - 11:53 AM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the "good money" is on the Falcons drafting a running back.

The Falcons aren't going to leave Jacquizz Rodgers all alone as the feature back. If they thought he was capable of handling that job, they would have given him a bigger share of soon-to-be-released Michael Turner's pie last season. Alabama's Eddie Lacy looks like a great fit if he's around when the Falcons pick at 30th overall in April. The AJC also suggests a possible flier on South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore, who is rehabbing from a knee tear.

Fox Sports South doesn't envision Jacquizz Rodgers as an every-down go-to running back.

We don't either. Rodgers struggled mightily to run between the tackles all season long, and it showed yet again in Sunday's loss to the 49ers. Michael Turner is likely to be a cap casualty unless he takes a sizable pay cut, so the Falcons are certain to be on the lookout for a bigger back to complement scatback Rodgers.
Jan 21 - 10:05 AM

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 11 times for 35 yards in the Falcons' NFC title game loss to the Niners.

He struggled running between the tackles, as usual, and wasn't involved in the passing game. Although Rodgers can make defenders miss when sprung into space, he lacks explosiveness without blocking-aided momentum and is panning out as a scatback only entering his third NFL season. Rodgers will be back on his minimum base salary in 2013, but we don't expect a significant leap in production, even if the Falcons cut Michael Turner. Rodgers, who turns 23 in February, finished 2012 as the No. 36 overall fantasy running back.

ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests Jacquizz Rodgers is "too small" to be an every-down back.

Rodgers is listed at 5'6/196, but size isn't the only concern here. On 151 career carries, he's managed just 3.75 yards per tote. And if the Falcons thought he could effectively carry the load, he would have taken fully over for the washed up Michael Turner already. Expect Atlanta to target a running back relatively early in April's draft.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 10 times for 64 yards and added two receptions for eight yards in Sunday's Divisional round victory over the Seahawks.

The Falcons offensive line bullied Seattle's front seven in a dominant first half, and Quizz provided the highlight with a powerful, career-long 45-yard run that featured a steam-rolling of FS Earl Thomas. Look for Atlanta to continue their equal timeshare between Rodgers and Michael Turner versus the 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
Jan 13 - 4:35 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers led the Falcons with eight receptions for 50 yards and added five rushes for 28 yards versus the Bucs in Week 17.

Quizz saw considerably more action than Michael Turner as Atlanta's starters played the entire game. The passing-down specialist closed out his second regular season with 94 carries, 362 rushing yards (3.85 YPC), 53 receptions, 402 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Expect Rodgers and Turner to continue splitting touches throughout the playoffs.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed six times for 14 yards in Saturday's win over the Lions.

He added one catch for 11 yards. Rodgers played behind Michael Turner and wasn't involved in the passing game for the second consecutive week. He remains no more than a flex option for Week 17 against the Bucs.

Jacquizz Rodgers managed just 25 yards on 11 carries and added one reception for 14 yards versus the Giants in Week 15.

Quizz took a backseat to Michael Turner with the Falcons in plum field position in the first half. While it was a good sign that he was heavily incorporated in the second half, he faced a defense gearing up to stop the run in a game lopsided in Atlanta's favor. Quizz remains no more than a flex option for Week 16 at Detroit.

Jacquizz Rodgers caught six passes for 43 yards, adding 21 yards on the ground on four touches, against the Panthers.

With the Falcons down on the scoreboard, Rodgers saw far more snaps in the backfield and was utilized very often as a checkdown target. The Panthers did very well to wrap up after the catch, but it continues to be a good sign for Rodgers that he is featured in more meaningful snaps than Michael Turner.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for 43 yards on eight carries in Thursday night's Week 13 victory over the Saints.

Rodgers added two catches for minus-four yards and returned just one kick for 22 yards. No. 3 back Jason Snelling caught four passes for 28 yards out of the backfield. Michael Turner and Quizz combined for 71 yards and a touchdown on five carries on the team's opening drive but were mostly quiet after that. Rodgers' fantasy value takes a major hit due to Turner handling all goal-line work.

Jacquizz Rodgers played more snaps than Michael Turner for the second straight game in Week 12.

Rodgers played 31-of-60 snaps compared to Turner's 23. Jason Snelling saw 12 snaps on offense and 12 on special teams. Turner received 16 touches against the Bucs, compared to Quizz's 12. While Rodgers isn't suddenly becoming a strong fantasy option, he's certainly cutting into Turner's value. Turner has been reduced to a weekly fantasy play who only pays off if he scores at the goal line.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 10 times for 49 yards and a touchdown and added two receptions for 30 yards at Tampa Bay in Week 12.

Rodgers continues to show a knack for making free defenders miss in space. The Falcons have shown no inclination that Quizz will replace an ineffective Michael Turner outright, but there were signs that the quicker back is gaining more responsibility. Quizz's 5-yard score came in a short-yardage 3rd-and-1 situation, and he reached double-digit carries for just the second time this year. Rodgers is merely a flex option for Week 13 versus the Saints.
Sun, Nov 25, 2012 05:37:00 PM

Quizz Rodgers rushed five times for 16 yards and caught five balls for 35 yards in the Falcons' Week 11 win.

Rodgers continues to struggle mightily between the tackles. He is an effective passing-game back, however, and will remain heavily involved in Atlanta's pass-first offense. Until we see evidence of Rodgers ascending to 12-15 touches per game, he'll be a poor bet as a flex play in all fantasy leagues.
Sun, Nov 18, 2012 04:25:00 PM

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed three times for 29 yards and added four receptions for 33 yards at New Orleans in Week 10.

Rodgers was electric in the open field, twice breaking angles with sharp cuts. Although he's not a between-the-tackles sustainer, the Falcons would still do well to increase his touches at Michael Turner's expense. Rodgers remains merely a flex option versus the Cardinals in Week 11.
