Bucs re-signed RB Jacquizz Rodgers to a two-year, $3.3 million contract.
ESPN's Jenna Laine reports the deal will go through "barring any surprises." It is a bit unusual Rodgers is not testing the free agent waters after his best season in the NFL, but perhaps he did not like what he heard at the Combine. Re-signing Rodgers gives the Bucs some much-needed depth at running back with Doug Martin suspended for the first three games of 2017. Of course, that assumes Martin is on the roster Week 1. Bucs GM Jason Licht said he'll work to re-sign free agent Jacquizz Rodgers.

With Doug Martin suspended the first three games of 2017 and his status with the team up in the air, the Bucs at least need to consider bringing back Rodgers as reliable depth. All things considered, Rodgers was Tampa Bay's best back last season after averaging 4.3 YPC and is still just 27. He should have options, but Rodgers could opt for familiarity with coach Dirk Koetter.

The Bucs have "yet to reach out" to free agent Jacquizz Rodgers.

It suggests the Bucs are prepared to move on from Rodgers. Tampa could also be waiting for the market to be set before making an offer. Despite coming off a career year, 27-year-old Rodgers shouldn't generate much free agent interest. The Bucs may view Peyton Barber as an in-house replacement.

Jacquizz Rodgers had 17 carries for 75 yards and caught one pass for four yards in Week 17 against the Panthers.

Rodgers came out of nowhere to start five games with Doug Martin and Charles Sims sidelined most the year. He was the Bucs' most productive runner, averaging 4.3 YPC. The Bucs could move on from Martin this offseason, but aren't going to be counting on Rodgers as their starter. An impending free agent, Rodgers should return as depth.
Jan 1 - 4:51 PM

ESPN Bucs reporter Jenna Laine expects Jacquizz Rodgers to get a "heavy workload" Week 17 against the Panthers.

It makes sense with Doug Martin suspended and Charles Sims (pectoral) on injured reserve, but it is still nice to get confirmation. Peyton Barber should steal some carries, but Rodgers is basically a lock for 15 touches. His worst finish this season when he gets at least 15 touches is RB18.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said Monday that he "stands by" his decision to feature Jacquizz Rodgers in Week 16 against the Saints.

Koetter also remained noncommittal on the Week 17 status of Doug Martin, who was benched for performance and declared a healthy inactive at New Orleans. Rodgers managed 78 yards and a touchdown on 17 touches, but Koetter seems to believe he is more effective than Martin as the lead back with Charles Sims continuing to operate as a change-of-pace/passing-down specialist.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed 15 times for 63 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' Week 16 loss to the Saints.

Rodgers added two catches for 15 additional yards. Stunningly named the Bucs' early-down back before the game over healthy scratch Doug Martin, Rodgers out-touched Charles Sims 17-7. It's unclear if Martin will be placed back on the shelf for Week 17, but we'd bet against it. Even were Martin to sit, Rodgers would be more RB3 than RB2 against the Panthers.

Jacquizz Rodgers is inactive for Week 15 against Dallas.

Rodgers had just two carries behind Doug Martin last week. He's a healthy scratch with Charles Sims healthy. The rest of the Bucs inactives are OT Demar Dotson, WR Donteea Dye, OL Caleb Benenoch, DT John Hughes, and QB Ryan Griffin.

Jacquizz Rodgers had two carries for zero yards in Tampa's Week 14 win over the Saints.

So much for Rodgers' increased role. Rodgers was a complete afterthought with Charles Sims (knee) back in the picture. Pro Football Focus charted him as playing 7-of-66 snaps. Rodgers will need injury to Sims or Doug Martin to come back on the fantasy radar.

Florida Football Insiders' Roy Cummings believes "you could see" Jacquizz Rodgers "carrying the ball earlier and far more often" Week 14 against the Saints.

Cummings notes that Doug Martin is "still the lead back," but admits if Martin continues to struggle for yards like he has all season, OC Todd Monken could have a quick hook. Rodgers is averaging a healthy 4.4 YPC on the year, while Martin is sitting at 2.85 since coming back from a hamstring injury. Monken expressed frustration with the run game Wednesday and could be ready to do whatever it takes to get it on track. Martin is looking like a high-risk RB2/3, while Rodgers is nothing more than a flex option, though he has upside for more.

Bucs OC Todd Monken said Jacquizz Rodgers will be in "a more expanded role" this week against the Saints.

Rodgers returned from a foot injury last week to run seven times for 29 yards and catch one pass for 21 yards. He was also playing late in the win over the Chargers, ahead of Doug Martin. We doubt Rodgers all of the sudden gets 12-plus touches, but he's worth stashing for the fantasy playoffs in case something happens to Martin. Martin is believed to be healthy right now.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed seven times for 29 yards and caught his lone target for a gain of 21 in the Bucs' Week 13 win over the Chargers.

Rodgers finished with only the eight touches, but we saw him playing over Martin in some scoring situations and he also closed out the game as the Bucs' primary back on their final three drives. It's unclear why Martin wasn't in during that time period. It's extremely unlikely Martin was outright benched. Either way, Rodgers will be worth stashing on fantasy benches going forward, and especially if it's revealed Martin has some sort of injury.

Bucs RB Jacquizz Rodgers is active for Week 13 against the Chargers.

He should resume backup duties behind workhorse Doug Martin. The Bucs' Week 13 inactives are QB Ryan Griffin, S Chris Conte, OL Josh Allen, C Evan Smith, OL Leonard Wester, DT John Hughes, and DL Davonte Lambert.

Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) is practicing in full for Week 13.

Rodgers actually returned to a full practice on Friday but was still inactive for Sunday's game against Seattle. He should get the green light this week. Upon his return, Rodgers should occupy a change-of-pace role behind workhorse Doug Martin. For fantasy purposes, he's just a handcuff.
Wed, Nov 30, 2016 06:02:00 PM

Bucs declared Jacquizz Rodgers (foot) inactive for Week 12 against the Seahawks.

Rodgers was able to get in a full practice Friday, but the Bucs were always expected to be "cautious" with his foot injury. He should return next week. Tampa Bay also declared OG Josh Allen, QB Ryan Griffin, DT John Hughes, DL DaVonte Lambert, C Evan Smith, and OT Leonard Wester inactive for Week 12.
