Former Steelers and Redskins WR Antwaan Randle El has retired from football.
He'll make the announcement on July 14. Randle El, 33, spent last year out of football after being cut by the Steelers following the lockout. A college quarterback at Indiana, Randle El was a game-breaking punt returner and backup wideout in his prime, returning five career punts for touchdowns and scoring 15 more as a receiver. A "gadget guy" to whom Michigan QB Denard Robinson will inevitably be compared, Randle El also completed 22 of his 27 career NFL pass attempts for 323 yards and six TDs, without an interception. Steelers released PR/WR Antwaan Randle El.

The move saves $2 million in base salary. Randle El may be done at age 32. His explosiveness is gone, particularly on returns, and he was easily overtaken by relatively unheralded rookies on Pittsburgh's receiver depth chart last year. In a best case scenario, Randle El will sign with a team in-season.

Steelers WR Antwaan Randle El is expected to be released later this offseason.

The writing has been on the wall ever since Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown blew past him on the depth chart in the second half of 2010. Randle El turns 32 in August, and most teams prefer a developmental prospect in the fifth receiver role.

Antwaan Randle El will reportedly be involved in a trick play the Steelers have never used before in Saturday's Steelers-Ravens game.

How do we know this? ESPN reporter Bob Holtzman reported early Saturday morning that two Steelers told him about the play, leading a league source to respond, "What a moron. Steelers will be pissed. How the f–k do you do that?" The leak of information may not have been intentional, though we can't imagine the team is all too pleased.

Antwaan Randle El caught five passes for 66 yards in the Week 10 loss to the Patriots.

Randle El was the beneficiary of nine targets with Hines Ward leaving early with a concussion. He is worth a look in deeper formats if Ward is sidelined for a while but otherwise should be left on the waiver wire.

Antwaan Randle El will serve as the Steelers' emergency quarterback this weekend.

With only Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch healthy, Randle El is getting snaps at quarterback in practice. The former Indiana signal-caller is still the No. 3 receiver, slightly ahead of Emmanuel Sanders for now.

Antwaan Randle El is the Steelers' No. 3 wideout, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

With Santonio Holmes gone, Randle El is ticketed for a bigger role than originally expected. He only has to hold off Arnaz Battle for snaps and will slide in as a slot receiver. Still, with below average skills and explosiveness, Randle El doesn't have much fantasy upside.

Antwan Randle El revealed that he was promised an opportunity to compete for the No. 3 receiver role in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers may let him compete as a veteran courtesy, but he'll get smoked by impressive second-year WR Mike Wallace. Realistically, Randle El is going to have to hold off Arnaz Battle for the fourth receiver job, and he won't be relevant in fantasy circles.

Steelers signed WR Antwaan Randle El to a three-year contract.

Randle El, going on 31, had 50 catches for 530 yards in 16 games last year. He isn't going to make plays down the field and has lost most of his burst on punt returns, but can still contribute off the bench as a slot receiver. The odds remain heavily against him ever being a fantasy factor again. The move is another sign that Limas Sweed won't be on Pittsburgh's 2010 roster.

Redskins released WR Antwaan Randle El.

This one was a no-brainer. Randle El was due a $4.25M salary in addition to a $6.25M roster bonus. The Redskins are also looking to upgrade at the position, which left Randle El without a role. Though his playmaking days are in the past, the 30-year-old should draw interest on the open market as a quality slot receiver.

Redskins WR/PR Antwaan Randle El is due a $4.25 million salary in 2010, plus a $6.25 million offseason roster bonus.

Randle El's salary drops to $1.95M if the bonus is paid before August 31, but he's likely played his last down in burgundy and gold, no matter who coaches the team. The 30-year-old is still a decent slot receiver, finishing 2009 with 50 grabs for 530 yards, but offers no vertical ability and is totally ineffective on punt returns. He's not worth close to $8.2 million.

Antwaan Randle El left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a sprained shoulder.

Randle El suffered the injury when he came down hard at the end of a long gain, finishing the game with 73 yards on four catches.

Antwaan Randle El caught five passes for 45 yards in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys.

Randle El continues to be a reliable target for Jason Campbell, but he's not worth much in fantasy leagues. He hasn't topped 45 receiving yards since Week 1.

Antwaan Randle El caught three balls for 45 yards in Week 10.

ARE showed quickness on a 26-yard reception, but this was his best fantasy effort since the Skins' opener. He's waiver wire fodder in most leagues.

Antwaan Randle El caught three balls for 28 yards in Week 9.

When Mike Sellers (3-56) leads the team in receiving, you know the offense is putrid. The Skins only forced Atlanta to punt three times, and DeAngelo Hall got the lone return. On offense, ARE is averaging 34.5 yards a game.
