Steelers re-signed ILB Larry Foote to a three-year, $5.5 million contract.
Foote remains in the Steel City to start opposite Lawrence Timmons. Coming off the best statistical season of his career — 113 tackles, four sacks — Foote was drawing serious interest from the Cardinals. Going on 33, Foote's best football is well behind him, but his return stems the brain drain in the Steelers' linebacker corps after James Harrison was released on Saturday. It's quite possible Foote will end up playing just one year of his "three-year deal." Mar 12 - 2:21 PM

The Steelers have stepped up negotiations with free agent ILB Larry Foote in an effort to keep him away from Arizona.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported early Tuesday that Arizona had emerged as the "strong favorite" to sign Foote. The Steelers have less cap space to work with, but want Foote back to play adjacent to Lawrence Timmons. The Cards can win a bidding war. There just shouldn't be one for a 33-year-old inside 'backer.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora says the Cardinals are "strong favorites" to sign free agent ILB Larry Foote.

The Cardinals have a desperate need for a reliable tackler to play next to the dynamic Daryl Washington. Foote isn't a long-term solution as he enters his age-33 season, but he could serve as a low-end stopgap. In 16 starts for the Steelers last season, Foote set career-highs in tackles (113) and sacks (four).

Free agent ILB Larry Foote says he's been talking "back and forth" with the Steelers.

"I guess it’s a money thing right now," Foote said in a Tuesday radio interview. Both sides are interested in a new deal, so it could be only a matter of time before an accord is reached. Coming off a rough season and going on 33, Foote likely has no illusions about landing a multi-year deal.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says there's a "good chance" the Steelers re-sign free agent ILB Larry Foote to a one-year deal.

Foote, 32, has been a Steeler his entire career aside from a one-year stop in Detroit. The 11-year veteran started all 16 games in 2012 and is the team's defensive play-caller. Foote has slowed down, but he did set career-highs in tackles (113) and sacks (four). He's stated he intends to play for Pittsburgh or retire.

Impending free agent ILB Larry Foote said he wants to play for the Steelers or no one in 2013.

Foote will turn 33 years old in June and is in rapid decline. If the Steelers choose to bring him back, he'll likely have to accept a minimum contract. If they choose to move to a younger option such as in-house candidates Sean Spence or Stevenson Sylvester, Foote says he'll retire.
Jan 22 - 12:03 PM

Steelers ILB Larry Foote, an impending free agent, told reporters after Sunday's Week 16 loss that he may consider retirement in the offseason.

Foote has been a starter all season, but he's struggled mightily, particularly as a run defender. He probably won't return to Pittsburgh. "I wouldn‘t be surprised if this is my last year," he said. "I wouldn‘t be surprised if I did come back next year. I‘m at that age when you never know what‘s going to happen."

Linebackers coach Keith Butler says there "won't be much drop-off" as Larry Foote replaces James Farrior on the inside.

Farrior is considering retirement after the Steelers declined to bring him back. Foote has spent nine of his 10 NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, so the transition should be smooth. IDP owners should note that Farrior racked up 78 tackles and two sacks in 14 games last season.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Tuesday ILB Larry Foote is expected to take the released James Farrior's place in the starting lineup.

Three months shy of his 32nd birthday, Foote has started just five games since re-signing with Pittsburgh in 2010, but is the Steelers' only viable in-house candidate to replace Farrior. Middle linebacker figures to be a priority for Pittsburgh in next month's draft.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora confirms the Steelers will likely release either ILB Larry Foote or ILB James Farrior.

Farrior's agent expect his client to get the ax, and Foote is nearly six years his junior. The most likely scenario is Foote filling in as the starter while the Steelers develop a middle linebacker prospect from the upcoming draft.

Steelers ILB Larry Foote confirmed that he will not compete for a starting job in Pittsburgh.

"I'm just here for depth," Foote said. "I accept that role ... You gotta be winning. It's all about winning in this league, and having fun." He'll provide injury insurance behind Lawrence Timmons and James Farrior.

Steelers signed LB Larry Foote, formerly of the Lions, to a three-year, $9.3 million contract. The deal includes a $1.8 million signing bonus.

Foote, who spent the first seven years of his career in Pittsburgh, left the Steelers after the 2008 season because he wanted to be a starter. Now, ironically, he returns to the Steelers as a clear backup. He'll give the Steelers some run-stopping insurance on the inside.

Terry Foster of the Detroit News reports that free agent LB Larry Foote is expected to sign a three-year contract with the Steelers on Monday.

Foote's visit to Pittsburgh was scheduled for Monday, but it sounds like the sides already have contract parameters in place. While Foote is obviously familiar with Dick LeBeau's system, it's a surprise that he's settling on a return to the team that cut him in 2009. Foote isn't going to be a starter.

The Steelers will host free agent LB Larry Foote on Monday.

Foote would be a backup in Pittsburgh, playing behind James Farrior and Lawrence Timmons. He could start in Arizona, where he visited Wednesday.

Free agent ILB Larry Foote said Thursday that the Cardinals are his first choice for a new team.

Foote and OLB Joey Porter are both visiting Arizona on Thursday. Porter also appears to be leaning toward the Cardinals, saying they could make him skip other trips with the right offer. As usual, money talks.
