ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports the Chargers hope better health and new coach Jeff Davidson helps improve their offensive line play.
The Chargers struggled to block in the passing game and especially the running game last season, giving up 40 sacks and averaging just 3.5 yards per carry as a team. The 24 different line combinations they were forced to use because of injuries certainly did not help, but coach Mike McCoy believes coaching was a factor as well. "As a staff, with the new guys here it’s building a scheme that best fits our players," McCoy said. "It’s not going to be just one scheme. We’re going to do a little bit of everything." The Chargers have not done much besides re-signing RT Joe Barksdale to address the line in free agency, but they will almost certainly add talent in the draft. Apr 5 - 12:35 PM

Chargers re-signed RT Joe Barksdale to a four-year, $22.2 million contract with $10.5 million fully guaranteed.

Barksdale, 28, was the only Chargers' offensive lineman able to stay healthy last season, making all 16 starts while the rest of the line crumbled next to him. Barksdale had an up and down year, but received positive marks from PFF for his pass blocking on the right side. The Chargers will hope LT King Dunlap, LG Orlando Franklin, and RG D.J. Fluker can stay healthy in 2016.

Chargers agreed to terms with OT Joseph Barksdale, formerly of the Rams.

Coming off a strong age-26 campaign in St. Louis, Barksdale surprisingly languished on the open market for over two months. His arrival in San Diego likely means RT D.J. Fluker will kick inside to right guard. That would leave Barksdale to bookend LT King Dunlap. Second-rounder Rob Havenstein will replace Barksdale in St. Louis.

The Chargers are hosting free agent OT Joe Barksdale on Monday.

Arguably the top young free agent left on the market, 27-year-old Barksdale is coming off a strong 2014 in St. Louis. He was one of the top pass-protecting right tackles in football last year. The addition of Barksdale could allow the Chargers to kick D.J. Fluker inside to right guard. Chris Watt is penciled in at center with LG Orlando Franklin and LT King Dunlap holding down the left side.

The Rams are still talking with free agent RT Joe Barksdale.

Barksdale visited with the Falcons this week, but left without a contract. St. Louis remains his most likely landing spot, where Barksdale would compete with rookie Rob Havenstein for the starting right tackle job.

The Falcons worked out free agent RT Joe Barksdale on Monday.

With the draft now behind us, veteran free agents like Barksdale should start finding homes. The 27-year-old is one of the better players left on the market after he likely missed his bite at the apple in the opening of free agency by getting married and then leaving the country for his honeymoon. The Falcons drafted just one offensive lineman and could use an upgrade on RT Ryan Schraeder.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports free agent RT Joseph Barksdale "remains interested" in re-signing with the Rams.

Languishing on the open market, Barksdale apparently wasn't put off by the Rams' second-round selection of Wisconsin OT Rob Havenstein. He's also just being a realist. The Rams and Titans are the only two teams to even sniff Barksdale this spring, and the Titans have moved on.

Even after using two second-day picks on offensive linemen, coach Jeff Fisher said the Rams remain interested in re-signing free agent RT Joe Barskdale.

Barskdale would presumably return to compete with second-round pick Rob Havenstein at right tackle. That's something that may not appeal to Barkdale. A solid pass protector on the right side last year, Barskdale's play was less effective in the run game. The Rams' draft has been devoted to the run game, drafting Todd Gurley at No. 10, followed by RT Havenstein and OG Jamon Brown.

Coach Jeff Fisher says the Rams are still interested in re-signing free agent OT Joseph Barksdale.

The sides are playing a game of chicken, waiting for the other to blink first. Aside from a visit to the Titans, Barksdale has been greeted by crickets in free agency, and the Rams — who have holes all over their offensive line — must be confident they can get him back at their price.

Free agent RT Joe Barksdale left his Titans visit without a contract.

The Rams "remain in the mix" to re-sign Barksdale. St. Louis would be wise to bring him back. The Rams have the worst offensive-line depth chart in the league. And it's not close. It currently stands: LT Greg Robinson, LG Rodger Saffold, C Demetrius Rhaney, RG Brandon Washington, and RT Garrett Reynolds.

Free agent OT Joseph Barksdale is visiting the Titans Thursday.

Barksdale, 27 years old and a solid 29-game starter for the Rams over the last two seasons, would slide in at right tackle opposite left tackle Taylor Lewan. Why Barksdale's market has been so slow to develop remains a mystery. Perhaps teams are worried about the lingering effects of his war against Marlo Stanfield.

ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports the Rams remain interested in free agent OT Joe Barksdale, but "gets the sense they wouldn't mind upgrading at that spot."

The Rams have brought in Stanford OT Andrus Peat and Louisville's Jamon Brown for visits, and have pre-draft meetings lined up with Miami's Ereck Flowers and Pittsburgh's T.J. Clemmings. Barksdale is coming off a solid 2014, but hasn't drawn any interest since mid-March. The Rams may look to improve on Barksdale with a priority draft pick.

Titans GM Ruston Webster hinted the team has tabled its interest in free agent OT Joseph Barksdale until after the draft.

Aside from the Rams, the Titans were the only team known to express interest in Barksdale following the start of free agency. The 27-year-old simply has zero market, and will likely end up returning to the Rams on a team-friendly contract.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Titans "continue to have interest" in free agent RT Joseph Barksdale.

Per Caplan, the Rams also remain interested in re-signing their 2014 right tackle. After getting off to a quiet start, Barksdale's market has been clarifying in recent days. It shouldn't be long before he lands a deal.

ESPN's Adam Caplan reports the Rams remain interested in re-signing free agent RT Joe Barksdale.

Rotoworld's top remaining free-agent tackle, Barksdale's market has been slow to develop. He hasn't visited with any teams, and could ultimately return to St. Louis. 27-year-old Barksdale was the Rams' best offensive lineman last season. Barksdale is likely to get a deal in the range of Jermey Parnell's contract (5 years, $32M).
