Delone Carter recently underwent shoulder surgery.
Carter tumbled down the depth chart last season, getting just 32 carries in 10 games before an ankle injury landed him on the inactive list. The extent of this surgery is unclear, but he won't have a good shot at carries this year either. Both Vick Ballard and Donald Brown are back. May 23 - 12:02 PM

Coach Chuck Pagano stressed that Delone Carter needs to stay healthy.

Carter missed spring workouts last year due to a thumb injury and then was inactive for six regular-season games with various ankle woes. At best, he'll be a short-yardage option for the Colts this year at 5'9/225. Vick Ballard and Donald Brown are the Colts' top-two backs.

Delone Carter (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's Wild Card Round playoff game against the Ravens.

Vick Ballard will handle a full load in the Indianapolis backfield. Carter hasn't played since suffering the ankle injury in Week 14 against the Titans. The rest of the Colts' inactives are: WR Nathan Palmer, CB Teddy Williams, S Delano Howell, DT Kellen Heard, LG Joe Reitz, and OL Tony Hills. Jeff Linkenbach will start at left guard.

Delone Carter (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Ravens.

Carter was downgraded to a limited practice Friday, but is on track to return for the first time since Week 14. If active, he'll be used as a short-yardage specialist behind Vick Ballard, with Mewelde Moore relegated to special teams.
Jan 5 - 10:06 PM

Delone Carter (ankle) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday's practice.

Carter now appears to be on track for Sunday's game at Baltimore after missing nearly a month. His return could fewer goal-line opportunities for Vick Ballard, as Carter was the short-yardage hammer before the injury.

Delone Carter (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday.

Carter hasn't played since he scored a one-yard touchdown in Week 14 against the Titans. Indy's No. 2 back rushed for 122 yards and three scores in the regular season. He could see a couple short-yardage looks on Sunday if he plays.
Jan 2 - 8:51 PM

Delone Carter (ankle) will not play in Sunday's game against the Texans.

The Colts are locked into the AFC's No. 5 seed, so there's no reason for Carter to push it. He's aiming to return as the short-yardage pounder for the playoff opener.

Colts declared RB Delone Carter, TE Nate Palmer, S Tom Zbikowski, LB Kavell Conner, C Samson Satele, OT Winston Justice, and DT Antonio Johnson inactive for Week 16 against Kansas City.

Carter is out with an ankle injury, so Vick Ballard will handle goal-line work after Mewelde Moore's Week 15 one-yard-line fumbleroosky. The Colts are again short two key offensive linemen in center Satele and right tackle Justice.

Delone Carter (ankle) has already been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Carter is likely targeting a return in the playoffs. Look for Vick Ballard to handle all the goal-line work this week after Mewelde Moore fumbled a chance away against the Texans.

Colts declared RB Delone Carter, TE Nathan Palmer, S Tom Zbikowski, LB Kavell Conner, C Samson Satele, DE Clifton Geathers, and RT Winston Justice inactive for Week 15 against the Texans.

Whereas the Texans are very healthy for their Week 15 division meeting with the Colts, Indianapolis cannot say the same. The Colts are down two key starting linemen in Satele and Justice. Vick Ballard gets a matchup boost from goal-line vulture Carter's absence, but will have fewer holes to run through.

Delone Carter (ankle) will be out 2-3 weeks.

The Colts are down to newly signed Mewelde Moore and Deji Karim behind starter Vick Ballard. Carter was averaging just 3.2 carries per game this year, but he did have three touchdowns as a goal-line vulture. Those chances will go to Ballard now.

The Colts declined to update the status of RB Delone Carter (ankle) Monday.

Carter appeared to sprain his ankle during the third quarter of last week's win over the Titans. With Donald Brown (ankle) also sidelined, Vick Ballard is the only healthy member of the Colts' backfield. He racked up 20 touches for 104 yards against the Titans and had a one-yard touchdown plunge vultured by Carter.

Delone Carter left Sunday's game against the Titans with an ankle injury.

Carter was injured in the third quarter, but he did help some ultra-desperate fantasy owners with a one-yard touchdown run before leaving. He has three carries for the one yard and score.

Delone Carter rushed twice for 21 yards and a touchdown in Indy's Week 11 loss to the Patriots.

Carter capped off Indy's opening drive with a one-yard plunge into the end zone, but didn't touch the ball again until the final play of the game. Indy had no other red-zone possessions in between, so it's possible Carter would have earned more looks had the Colts ever gotten near the painted area. As it is, Carter has touched the ball just four times over Indy's past two games, and can't be trusted as even a hail-mary option in fantasy leagues.

Interim coach Bruce Arians suggested that Delone Carter's 2012 role has been reduced due his limited skill-set.

"He just needs to continue to work on the little things, his attention to detail as an all-around player," Arians said. "He can run the football. You just can't be a one-trick pony." The Colts have been using Carter as the short-yardage and goal-line back. He's averaged seven carries over the past three weeks.
