Jerrel Jernigan caught 3-of-4 targets for 22 yards in Friday's preseason game.
His fourth target was a catchable ball he probably should have corralled. Jernigan hast just six grabs for 41 yards through four preseason games. With first-rounder Odell Beckham (hamstring) on the shelf, Jernigan's roster spot is likely secure, but he's further than ever from fantasy relevance. Aug 22 - 10:57 PM

Coach Tom Coughlin has not been impressed by Jerrel Jernigan this summer.

Asked if Jernigan's progress from 2013 carried over, Coughlin responded, "Not necessarily." With Odell Beckham sidelined for a couple weeks earlier in camp, Jernigan was given a big opportunity in three-wide sets. He didn't take advantage of it. Meanwhile, UDFA WRs Corey Washington and Marcus Harris have been camp stand-outs. Jernigan could be in danger of getting cut.

Jerrel Jernigan caught two passes for 13 yards in the Giants' preseason opener against the Bills.

The Giants' first-team offense played almost exclusively in three-receiver sets, with Jernigan in the Odell Beckham role. The Giants likely appreciate Jernigan's ability to handle himself both outside and in the slot, but the coaching staff doesn't envision him as more than its No. 4 receiver. Expect Jernigan to return to the bench once first-rounder Beckham's hamstring heals up.

Jerrel Jernigan is working as the Giants' No. 2 "X" receiver at Organized Team Activities, behind Odell Beckham.

Rueben Randle is the first-team Z, and Victor Cruz mans the slot. Beat writer Jordan Raanan indicates Jernigan is on the outside looking in at early-season snaps, and is currently penciled in as New York's No. 4 receiver. Jernigan opened the offseason as a hot fantasy sleeper. His stock has tumbled since, with Randle ticketed for a prominent role and Beckham drafted in the first round.

NJ.com's Jordan Raanan believes fourth-year WR Jerrel Jernigan still must "prove himself" to earn significant 2014 playing time.

Jernigan finished 2013 with a small-sample-size flurry, but he'll be hard pressed to earn a regular spot in New York's primary three-receiver set after the team drafted Odell Beckham 12th overall. Victor Cruz mans the slot, and Rueben Randle will play outside, opposite Beckham. Jernigan figures to end up as the No. 4 receiver, playing the second slot position when the G-Men go four wide.

The Packers led the NFL in use of "11" personnel last season.

Ben McAdoo, who was with the Pack from 2006-13, is now the Giants offensive coordinator. And given their lack of talent at the tight end spot, we can safely project him to bring a ton of those one running back, one tight end, three wideout sets to New York. It's fantastic news for Jerrel Jernigan, who is locked in as the No. 3 receiver behind Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle. Jernigan, capable of playing both inside and outside, was fantasy's No. 2 scorer over the final three weeks of last season.

Giants GM Jerry Reese said at the Combine that Jerrel Jernigan finally started to live up to his draft status down the stretch of 2013.

Jernigan posted a 19-237-2 line over the final three games of 2013 and should see an expanded offensive role as the Giants' third receiver in 2014, especially with new OC Ben McAdoo likely to install several three wide receiver sets. He is a sleeper in redraft leagues and worth owning in all dynasty formats.

Feb 22 - 2:15 PM

In a Friday radio interview, Giants coach Tom Coughlin suggested the light flipped on for Jerrel Jernigan in 2013.

Citing fumbles and injuries as the reasons Jernigan played sparingly in his first two NFL seasons, Coughlin said he "saw a different young man late in the season -- a very, very competitive guy." Jernigan's playing time spiked due to Victor Cruz's knee injury, and the slot receiver racked up six-plus catches in each of the Giants' final three games. With Hakeem Nicks likely to leave in free agency, Jernigan projects as New York's third receiver for 2014. The 24-year-old is worth owning in all Dynasty leagues.
Jan 3 - 2:25 PM

Jerrel Jernigan caught six passes for 90 yards with a touchdown and added two rushes for 57 yards with another score in Sunday's 20-6 Week 17 win over the Redskins.

Jernigan was the best player on this rain-soaked field and it wasn't even close. He was the Giants' go-to receiver for the third straight week, this time showing his receiving skills with a silly 24-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone and later showing his return man skills by juking his way to a 49-yard touchdown run. Since Victor Cruz got hurt in Week 15, Jernigan has posted 19 catches for 237 yards and two touchdowns. The undersized former third-rounder plays the slot just like Cruz, but the Giants need to find a way to get him on the field more in 2014 -- especially with Hakeem Nicks likely to walk as a free agent.

Jerrel Jernigan caught six balls for 80 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' Week 16 win over the Lions.

Replacing Victor Cruz (knee surgery) at slot receiver, Jernigan hauled in a 20-yard touchdown from Eli Manning in the second quarter. The TD was the first of Jernigan's three-year career. Jernigan operated as New York's chain-moving receiver with the run game failing to click, and figures to play the same role in Week 17 against the Redskins.

Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan (knee) is listed as questionable for Week 16.

Jernigan is shaping up as a game-time decision. He's safe to write off as a fantasy option against Detroit. Rueben Randle will get the start.

Jerrel Jernigan (knee) returned to practice Thursday.

He was officially limited. Jernigan is on track to handle the slot in three-wide formations against the Lions Sunday. Rueben Randle and Hakeem Nicks will be the receivers in two-wide sets. Although Jernigan posted a 6/67/0 line last week, he'd be a Hail Mary fantasy play as part of the struggling Giants pass game.

Jerrel Jernigan (knee) is not practicing Wednesday.

Jernigan wasn't known to be injured while catching six passes for 67 yards against the Seahawks, so this could be a precautionary day off. If active, he'll be the Giants' No. 3 wideout in Week 16 with Victor Cruz (concussion, knee) almost certainly out. Louis Murphy is the next man up behind Jernigan.

Jerrel Jernigan caught seven balls for 67 yards in the Giants' Week 15 loss to Seattle.

Jernigan's playing time spiked at slot receiver because Victor Cruz left early in the third quarter with a knee sprain and concussion. Jernigan is in his third NFL season and has not proven to be a dynamic player as he was billed to be coming out of Troy in the 2011 third round. He may get another shot in the slot in Week 16 against Detroit with Cruz probably not likely to play.

Giants WR Jerrel Jernigan caught two passes for 24 yards in Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Cowboys.

With Victor Cruz getting boxed out and Hakeem Nicks inactive, Jernigan was the Giants' third receiver against Dallas. He was largely ineffective, catching only checkdown-type passes and running at least one noticeably bad route. The Giants won't be efforting to play Jernigan more after this game.
