The Sideline View's Adam Caplan is issuing a 2012 breakout alert for Eagles second-year DE Phillip Hunt.
Caplan has an insider's read on the Eagles, and he suggests Hunt could push for 8-10 sacks as the most explosive and underrated pass rusher among Philly's six defensive ends. Hunt won't be an every-down player, but he should have a big role in nickel and dime packages. Hunt had two sacks on few snaps last year. Sun, Aug 26, 2012 05:22:00 PM

Updating a previous item, DE Phillip Hunt was not among the Eagles' final cuts this weekend.

A Saturday report claimed Hunt was waived, but he played his way onto the roster with three preseason sacks. Hunt will open the season competing for nickel rusher snaps with Juqua Parker and Darryl Tapp behind starting RE Trent Cole and LE Jason Babin. Hunt looks like the Eagles' fifth end at the moment.

Eagles waived DE Phillip Hunt and DL Daniel Te'o-Nesheim.

Te'o-Neshiem made no noise as a 2010 third-round pick after being given an opportunity to play inside on nickel downs. Hunt racked up three sacks this preseason. It's pretty surprising that the Eagles didn't believe that was enough.

Eagles agreed to terms with DE Phillip Hunt.

Hunt led the CFL with 16 sacks in 2010. He went undrafted in 2008 despite winning the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year award at the University of Houston. Hunt, 6'1/250, is considered less advanced than Cameron Wake was at this point two years ago. The Eagles hope he can develop into a situational pass rusher in the "Joker" role.

CFL sack leader Phillip Hunt is expected to sign with the Eagles within the next couple of days.

The Eagles made a late push after Hunt had drawn interest from the Vikings and Texans in previous weeks. Expect him to start out as a special teamer and occasional pass rusher if he makes the team out of training camp.

The Eagles have reportedly joined the Vikings and Texans in pursuit of CFL pass rusher Phillip Hunt.

NFL teams have only five more days to sign Canadian League players before the window closes. Hunt has recorded 19 sacks over the past two years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 16 of them coming in the 2010 season. Hunt isn't "nearly as advanced" as Cameron Wake when he joined the NFL. His ceiling is situational pass rusher.

The Texans have joined the Vikings in showing interest in CFL pass rusher Phillip Hunt.

The window to sign CFL players ends on February 15. Hunt, 23, looks the part of a 3-4 OLB like the Texans need at 6'2/260. He also is a Houston native, having played college ball for the Cougars. As a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this past season, Hunt led the Canadian League with 16 sacks.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers DE Phillip Hunt, who led the CFL with 16 sacks in 2010, is reportedly drawing interest from the Vikings.

Undrafted out of Houston in 2009, Hunt was in training camp with the Browns, lasting just one preseason game. At 6'2/260, he would seem to be a better fit as an edge rusher in a 3-4 defense. Vikings pass rushers Ray Edwards and Brian Robison are due to hit free agency this offseason.
