The Union-Tribune says Vincent Brown was "just plain spectacular" during OTAs and minicamp.
We can now safely say that the broken ankle that ruined Brown's 2012 season is water under the bridge. And since the Chargers are installing a more precise offense that de-emphasizes the deep ball, Brown has a realistic shot to beat out Malcom Floyd for the starting Z receiver spot. He's a far superior route-runner. Brown has plenty of sleeper appeal in upcoming fantasy drafts. Jun 18 - 9:30 AM

Vincent Brown is running with the Chargers' starters at OTAs this week.

Coach Mike McCoy says Brown will "without a doubt" be a big part of the 2013 offense. Brown has been rotating with Malcom Floyd opposite Danario Alexander, and he could even overtake the soon-to-be 32-year-old Floyd shortly. Brown is finally 100 percent recovered from his broken ankle. If he locks down the Z receiver spot opposite X wideout Danario Alexander, Brown could be quite the fantasy sleeper. He's got great hands and has always run great routes.

Chargers WR Vincent Brown said his ankle is "100 percent."

Brown fractured his ankle last August. The Chargers are taking it easy on him during OTAs, but Brown expects to be full-go for training camp. Malcom Floyd and Danario Alexander are running with the first team, but both Brown and rookie Keenan Allen could jump ahead of Floyd in due time. San Diego was planning to "feature" Brown last season, although there's now a new regime in town.

New Chargers coach Mike McCoy has "high hopes" for third-year WR Vincent Brown, and has identified Brown as a "great route runner."

McCoy also praised Brown's discipline. A promising third-round pick in 2011, Brown's 2012 season was lost due to a broken left ankle last preseason. Players typically receive clean slates under new coaching staffs, and Brown could wind up pushing Malcom Floyd for a starting job opposite Danario Alexander.

Although he returned to practice Wednesday, Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle, injured reserve/designated for return) confirmed he won't play again this season.

The Chargers are simply getting their second-year receiver some work heading into a long offseason. Brown missed the entire year after posting a 19/329/2 line as a third-round rookie in 2011. Although he's now lost a year of development, Brown is still only 23, and will be an intriguing late-round flier in 12-14 team redraft leagues next summer.

Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle, injured reserve/designated for return) will return to practice on Wednesday.

He'll get in a limited session. Brown said two weeks ago he was unlikely to return this season, but perhaps he'll see some reps in Week 17. More than likely, however, the Chargers are just doing all they can to get him to 100 percent health heading into the offseason. The Union-Tribune San Diego doesn't expect him to take the field in Week 16 or 17. Brown isn't worth a second thought in redraft leagues.

Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle, injured reserve designated for return) is unlikely to play this season.

When asked if he'd play this season, Brown admitted "most likely not." The second-year wideout returned to the field for workouts last month, but officially has yet to begin practicing. Brown's rehab process has been going smoothly, but he said he'd most likely be "chilling" on the sidelines for the season's final four games. Brown should push for No. 3 receiver duties in 2013 behind Malcom Floyd and Danario Alexander, who will be a restricted free agent. Robert Meachem could continue to slide down the depth chart.

Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle) "ran sprints, cornered around cones, shuffled and did rapid stop-and-starts" Wednesday.

Brown still hasn't resumed practicing with the team and remains on injured reserve with a designation to return. But based on his work Wednesday, he could be back in the mix shortly. The 2011 third-round pick would slot in behind clear starters Malcom Floyd and Danario Alexander if he gets active for the final few games.

Chargers WR Vincent Brown (ankle) said he's "definitely" targeting a return to practice this month but said he's "not sure" if he'll be able to.

Brown's rehab is taking longer than the Chargers had hoped when they put the "designated for return" injury tag on him. He still hasn't worked out with the team since breaking his ankle in the second preseason game. The Bolts can no longer count on a real impact this season.

Vincent Brown (broken ankle, I.R./designated for return) is still unable to run and is not expected back in the near future.

Brown fractured his left ankle in mid-August and no longer appears to be recovering on schedule. There were initially hopes he'd return by Week 9. That's obviously not going to happen, and a Week 11 or 12 return now looks more realistic. "I don't expect him back real soon," coach Norv Turner said Monday.

Vincent Brown (broken ankle) could be out for another month.

Brown broke his ankle in the preseason and was then placed on the injured reserve as the team's "designated for return" player. The second-year wideout is eligible to play this week against Cleveland, but that's not going to happen since he has yet to practice. "[Brown] is continuing through his rehab and I think he is making good progress," coach Norv Turner said. "He is in the middle of rehab. So, what he is able to do, we will find out probably in the next month." Brown will likely challenge Robert Meachem for playing time once he returns.

Coach Norv Turner said WR Vincent Brown (ankle) is not ready to practice yet.

Brown is eligible to start practicing this week, but the Chargers will ease him back in. "He's got to be healthy," Turner said. "It'll be awhile before we give you specific timing in terms of when he'd be able to play." The earliest Brown will play is Week 9 against the Chiefs. If healthy, Brown should be able to push Robert Meachem for snaps. The ex-Saint is averaging just 2.0 catches for 31.5 yards per game as a Charger.

The Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee suspects Vincent Brown (ankle) will return for Week 9.

Brown is eligible to come off the temporary injured reserve list ahead of Week 7. He'll then get a few weeks of practice in before suiting up. Brown should be able to push Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal for snaps, but is a better Dynasty target than re-draft option.
Thu, Oct 11, 2012 10:57:00 AM

Coach Norv Turner confirmed that WR Vincent Brown is "right on schedule" in his recovery from a fractured left ankle.

Brown was expected to miss at least eight weeks after undergoing surgery in mid-August. He's eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 7. Those in deeper leagues should think about adding Brown this week. The Chargers reportedly planned to "feature" him in their passing game before the injury.

Chargers assigned WR Vincent Brown (ankle) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.

Brown was a no-brainer choice for the Chargers. Players designated for return must spend at least six weeks on injured reserve, and Brown's injury comes with an eight-week timetable. Reportedly the best route runner and most versatile of Chargers wide receivers during training camp, Brown is worth stashing for a mid-season return in deeper leagues. It's also a good time to buy low in Dynasty formats.
