Broncos DT Phil Taylor will undergo an MRI on his left knee.
Taylor was cut by Cleveland at the end of camp last year and took a while to resurface due to chronic knee issues. The former first-round pick has been an effective run-stopper when healthy but obviously his knee is still a major question mark. Jul 29 - 2:36 PM

Broncos signed DT Phil Taylor, formerly of the Browns.

The 21st overall pick in the 2011 draft, Taylor flamed out of the NFL last season due to chronic knee problems, in addition to on-field effectiveness. He's kept himself in shape working out for the Ravens, Vikings, and Steelers since his September 2015 release. Turning 28 years old in April, nose tackle-sized Taylor is a worthwhile flier for Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense.

Free agent DT Phil Taylor worked out for the Vikings on Tuesday.

It's the first we've heard of Taylor since he worked out for the Ravens last month. It's only his second known workout since he was cut loose by the Browns in September. It's possible he's still not 100 percent healthy. Taylor should find a new home when reserve/future contracts are handed out in January.

Free agent DT Phil Taylor worked out for the Ravens.

Taylor drew zero interest after he was released by the Browns on Sept. 1, but it appeared to be because of a knee issue. Taylor is a fit for the Ravens' 3-4 defense, but would have trouble getting on the field behind NT Brandon Williams.

The Steelers came away from Wednesday's visit with Phil Taylor "not interested" in signing the free agent nose tackle.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Taylor's knee "needs (to be) fixed" and would take "too long to heal" for the Steelers to wait out Taylor's recovery. Taylor had his knee scoped in the offseason, but there were rumors he might need a microfracture procedure. At very least, he needs another surgery.

Free agent NT Phil Taylor visited with the Steelers.

It's Taylor's first visit since getting cut by the Browns. As many as eight teams have reportedly expressed interest in signing him. 27-year-old Taylor should resurface before the end of the week.

Browns released NT Phil Taylor.

The first-rounder the Browns got after deciding to trade down and pass on Julio Jones in 2011, Taylor never emerged as more than a run-plugging specialist. He was limited to just five games last season after undergoing a knee scope. Taylor is still a viable NFLer, so it's a bit of a surprising move. The Browns are on the hook for Taylor's $5.477 million salary. Taylor should latch on elsewhere relatively quickly.

Browns NT Phil Taylor returned to team drills on Sunday.

Taylor missed OTAs and minicamp while recovering from offseason knee surgery. The 27-year-old has been a solid run stopper when healthy, though he's missed 20 games over the last three seasons. Taylor is on the roster bubble.

Browns NT Phil Taylor isn't considered a lock to make the 53-man roster.

The former 21st overall pick saw his starting job disappear when the Browns drafted NT Danny Shelton. Desmond Bryant and Randy Starks are projected to flank Shelton. Taylor is making his way back from a 2014 knee injury that required a clean-up procedure and forced him to miss OTAs and minicamp. The Browns would just be eating Taylor's $5.477 million salary if he were to be cut.

Browns NT Phil Taylor (knee) said he'll be full-go for training camp.

Taylor battled a knee issue all last season and needed a scope. There was some concern he may need microfracture surgery. That wasn't the case, but Taylor faces an uncertain future in Cleveland. Due a non-guaranteed $5.477 million salary, Taylor is a cut candidate after the Browns drafted NT Danny Shelton.

Browns coach Mike Pettine says "there's some uncertainty" with NT Phil Taylor's (knee) health.

It's bad news for a player who just saw his replacement in NT Danny Shelton selected on Thursday evening. Dealing with persistent knee issues, Taylor is due a non-guaranteed $5.477 million. He could be sent packing.

Phil Taylor is currently penciled as the Browns’ starting nose tackle.

Taylor played three-technique his first year in Mike Pettine's scheme. With Cleveland moving on from Ahtyba Rubin, Taylor will move back inside. Randy Starks is the favorite to replace Taylor at left end and should start opposite Desmond Bryant. 26-year-old Taylor is owed $5.5 million in the final year of his contract.

The Browns may look to create salary cap room by releasing LE Phil Taylor or asking him to take a pay cut.

Taylor missed 11 games in 2014 and clearly isn't worth the $5.5 million he's scheduled to earn next season. Given his low ceiling, the Browns are more likely to part ways with Taylor than restructure his deal.

Browns placed LE Phil Taylor (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Taylor battled persistent knee issues all season. Due $5.5 million in 2015 base salary, Taylor may have played his final down as a Cleveland Brown. He's proven to be no better than an adequate two-down NFL defensive lineman.

Browns DL Phil Taylor (knee) is not expected to play this week.

Taylor is progressing after undergoing a knee scope on Oct. 8, but isn't quite ready yet. The Browns are getting wrecked by the run heading into Sunday's game against a somewhat resurgent Darren McFadden.
