Ricky Stanzi remained the Chiefs' No. 3 quarterback in Wednesday's practice.
It's a strong indication he won't get into Sunday's meaningless finale, and an even stronger one that he'll likely find himself on the street in 2013. If Stanzi had any sort of a future at all, he would have already seen snaps ahead of Kansas City's dreadful 1-2 duo of Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn. Wed, Dec 26, 2012 01:28:00 PM

Ricky Stanzi's inability to get on the field this season "speaks loudly," according to the Kansas City Star.

The Chiefs are 2-13, rank dead last in points per game (13.9) and have essentially given up on Matt Cassel. They still don't want to give Stanzi, their fifth-round pick last season, a shot. He must be truly awful while operating the scout team at practices.

Chiefs declared QB Ricky Stanzi, WR Steve Breaston, S Abram Elam, H-back Nate Eachus, G/C Russ Hochstein, TE Tony Moeaki, and DT Anthony Toribio inactive for Week 16 against the Colts.

Matt Cassel will back up Brady Quinn. Breaston seems likely to be cut in the offseason. Moeaki (head) will be replaced by Jake O'Connell.

Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel said "there's a possibility" second-year QB Ricky Stanzi could start in Week 16 against the Colts.

Brady Quinn suffered a rib injury in Sunday's shutout loss to the Raiders and will be evaluated this week, while Matt Cassel just isn't considered an option under center anymore. Stanzi has yet to appear in a regular season game since being a fifth-round pick in 2011. In six preseason appearances, Stanzi has completed 27-of-52 passes for 304 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He offers zero long-term appeal.

Second-year QB Ricky Stanzi is yet to take an NFL snap.

Since the Chiefs used a fifth-round pick on Stanzi in 2011, they've used Matt Cassel, Kyle Orton, Tyler Palko and Brady Quinn at quarterback. Stanzi hasn't even sniffed the field, often not even dressing on Sundays. It's a bad sign for his long-term NFL prospects if he can't even get a look for the 1-9 Chiefs down the stretch.

Coach Romeo Crennel left the door open for Ricky Stanzi to see game action if Brady Quinn (concussion) isn't cleared for Week 10.

"We will evaluate it and see which way we go," Crennel said. We are tentatively expecting to see Quinn back under center versus the Steelers, who should be picked up as a spot fantasy defense start in any league where they remain available. Crennel may have seen enough of Matt Cassel, who has more turnovers than all but one entire team in the NFL.

Chiefs declared QB Ricky Stanzi, WR Devon Wylie, S Tysyn Hartman, LB Bryan Kehl, OG Bryan Mattison, DE Glenn Dorsey, and TE Steve Maneri inactive for Week 8 against the Raiders.

Matt Cassel will back up starter Brady Quinn. Dorsey is sitting out due to a knee injury. Maneri actually led Kansas City in Week 6 receiving, before the Week 7 bye. Tony Moeaki will be the Chiefs' primary tight end Sunday.

Chiefs backup QB Ricky Stanzi didn't play in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks.

Since it was the Chiefs' regular season dress rehearsal, it almost certainly means Stanzi has been beaten out by Brady Quinn to back up Matt Cassel. Stanzi attempted just 11 passes in Kansas City's first two exhibition games, completing five for 66 yards. He also lost a fumble and threw a pick. Stanzi's NFL future is dim.

Chiefs 2011 fifth-round pick Ricky Stanzi has failed to separate himself from Brady Quinn early in training camp.

Maybe it'll happen in preseason games. If it doesn't, it will be a concern for Stanzi's long-term NFL outlook. Per the Kansas City Star, neither of the Chiefs' backup candidates has looked "particularly impressive" on the practice field. The Star expects Quinn to get the No. 2 quarterback job if there's a tie.

The Kansas City Star's Kent Babb believes Ricky Stanzi was the Chiefs' best quarterback during OTAs.

It means little other than the fact that Stanzi looked good without pads on, but it's still better than the alternative, and bodes well for Stanzi's competition with Brady Quinn to back-up Matt Cassel. It would be thoroughly disappointing — and a troubling sign for Stanzi's NFL future — if he can't beat out Quinn in camp.

Chiefs GM Scott Pioli reiterated his faith in QB Ricky Stanzi as a developmental prospect.

Stanzi, entering his second NFL season, is set to battle Brady Quinn for the backup quarterback job at training camp. "We drafted a quarterback last year who I truly believe has good ability and has the potential to start in this league," Pioli said. "I really do believe that." It will be hard to buy what the general manager is selling if Stanzi can't separate from Quinn next month.

Ricky Stanzi is splitting second-team quarterback reps with Brady Quinn this offseason.

Stanzi is running the second team this week after Quinn took his turn last week. The Chiefs failed to make good on their pledge to find competition for starter Matt Cassel, but they are setting up a training-camp battle for the primary backup job.

Interim coach Romeo Crennel isn't ruling out starting Ricky Stanzi at quarterback against the Packers in Week 15.

It's quite possible that Todd Haley's insistence on sticking with an overmatched Tyler Palko contributed to his dismissal. Although Stanzi was believed to be "not ready," the Texans' success with their own fifth-round rookie may give the Chiefs a good reason to give Stanzi an audition. Kyle Orton (finger) could be an alternative, though his status for this week is still unknown.

Chiefs declared QB Ricky Stanzi, S Donald Washington, OT David Mims, LB Demorrio Williams, TE Jake O'Connell, NT Jerrell Powe and DT Brandon Bair inactive for Week 13 against the Bears.

LG Ryan Lilja (head/neck) is active. The Chiefs have yet to officially announce who will get the start at quarterback, but most indications are that Tyler Palko will at least begin the day under center. He could be in for a short afternoon against a Bears defense that's been playing at an increasingly high level of late.

Coach Todd Haley isn't afraid to put rookie QB Ricky Stanzi into the game if the situation calls for it.

"We're all encouraged with Ricky Stanzi and the development and progress he's made," says Haley. New starter Tyler Palko has plenty of faceplant potential, leaving Stanzi with a better chance to see playing time over the next few weeks than fellow rookie T.J. Yates in Houston.
