Rams RE Robert Quinn (back surgery) is without a timetable for a return, and could miss the beginning of the offseason program.
Quinn is still less than a month removed from going under the knife, and the Rams have zero reason to rush their superstar pass rusher. Even if Quinn missed the entire offseason program, he should be ready for training camp. Jan 4 - 3:27 PM

Rams placed RE Robert Quinn (back) on season-ending injured reserve.

Quinn will undergo surgery this week. He appeared in just eight games and had been sidelined since Week 10. Quinn will finish with 21 tackles and five sacks in a down season. The Rams will go with a combination of Eugene Sims and Matt Longacre opposite Chris Long. St. Louis' defense has collapsed in the absence of Quinn and WLB Alec Ogletree, going from one of the league's most imposing units to a thoroughly mediocre one.

Rams RE Robert Quinn (hip) is listed as doubtful for Week 13.

St. Louis' defense hasn't been the same in Quinn's absence. At the Edward Jones Dome, Carson Palmer has an above-average matchup against a Rams team that will also be without starting LCB Trumaine Johnson (thigh).

Rams RE Robert Quinn (hip) has been downgraded to out for Week 11 against the Ravens.

Quinn missed Week 9 and has struggled through hip and knee injuries over the last month. With Chris Long (knee) at best a game-time decision, the Rams defense is not the scary matchup it was earlier in the season. Justin Forsett is a sneaky DFS play this week.

Rams RE Robert Quinn (knee) and LE Chris Long (knee) are both listed as questionable for Week 11 against the Ravens.

Both truly look like game-time decisions whose effectiveness is in question, in addition to their playing statuses. The Rams are also badly missing WLB Alec Ogletree after getting torched by the Bears' RBs and TEs last week.

Rams RE Robert Quinn admits his knee injury has been limiting his effectiveness.

Quinn tweaked his knee in Week 5, and has only one sack since. He's averaging just 27 snaps since getting injured, and sat out in Week 9. Quinn does claim he's feeling "better and better." The Rams need Quinn back at his normal effectiveness if they're to make a genuine push for a Wild Card spot.

Rams RE Robert Quinn played just 15-of-66 snaps against the Bears.

Quinn's knee is clearly still an issue. The Rams need him to get going against the Ravens as they try to shake a two-game losing streak. Quinn has only one sack since Week 5.

Rams RE Robert Quinn (knee) is active for Week 10 against the Bears.

So are RT Rob Havenstein (ankle) and SS T.J. McDonald (foot) after all three were listed questionable. Wes Welker is also active for his Rams debut. Inactive for the Rams are QB Sean Mannion, S Christian Bryant, TE Justice Cunningham, OL Andrew Donnal, DE Chris Long (knee), DE Matt Longacre, and DT Doug Woethington.

Rams RE Robert Quinn (knee) has resumed practicing.

It puts Quinn on track to return against the Bears. Quinn, who has five sacks in seven games, was missed in last Sunday's loss to the Vikings.

Rams RE Robert Quinn (knee) is inactive for Week 9 against the Vikings.

It'll be Quinn's first missed game due to injury in his five-year career. The Rams are also without LE Chris Long (knee), and will be forced to start William Hayes and Eugene Sims at the ends. Also inactive for the Rams are RT Rob Havenstein (ankle), SS T.J. McDonald (foot), QB Sean Mannion, DT Doug Worthington, and RB Chase Reynolds. The Rams are missing some key pieces.

Rams signed RE Robert Quinn to a four-year, $66.575 million extension through 2019.

The deal includes $41.2 million guaranteed. Only 24, Quinn is already one of the most dominant edge rushers in the league, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2013. Quinn has 34.5 sacks in only 48 career games. He's one of the few long-term corps players on a perennially overrated Rams roster.

Yahoo Sports' Rand Getlin reports the Rams are nearing a long-term extension with RE Robert Quinn.

A source told Getlin a deal "can get done before Week 3." Quinn is said to be targeting an extension worth in the range of $15 million annually. One of the premier edge rushers in football, Quinn is still only 24 years old. We suspect a new commitment would be in the range of four to five years, allowing Quinn to hit the free agent market before or just as he turns 30.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Rams have "exchanged some numbers" with RE Robert Quinn's reps regarding a contract extension.

Quinn is under team control for two more years, so there's no urgency. Quinn, likewise, is probably comfortable betting on himself following his mammoth 2013. Quinn could best J.J. Watt's record-breaking deal if he has another monster campaign.

Rams exercised DE Robert Quinn's fifth-year club option for 2015.

It's a no-brainer move. Quinn has emerged as one of the game's most dominant pass rushers over the last two seasons, compiling 29.5 sacks and 77 quarterback hurries while playing in all 32 games. He was Pro Football Focus' top 4-3 defensive end by a massive margin last year. Now the Rams have Quinn for just $1.6 million in 2014 and $6.9 million in 2015. They'll have to pull the Brinks truck into his house before he hits free agency in 2016.

The Rams are expected to exercise RE Robert Quinn's fifth-year club option of $6.9 million in 2015.

So St. Louis will be able to keep Quinn for $8.56 million over the next two seasons. It's a team-friendly bargain after Quinn exhibited ferocious pass-rush ability en route to 19 sacks and seven forced fumbles in 2013. The deadline for clubs to exercise fifth-year options on 2011 first-round picks is May 3.
