Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (groin) is questionable for Week 8 against the Panthers.

Smith sat out Wednesday's practice with a groin injury but was a full participant the rest of the week. We're guessing he'll be fine to face the Panthers on Sunday. Smith has struggled since coming off suspension, earning a negative coverage grade from ProFootballFocus.
Oct 26 - 3:10 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is expected to make his season debut against the Browns in Week 5.

Coach John Harbaugh wouldn't commit to Smith playing earlier in the week but he seems to have changed his tune, complimenting the star cornerback on his excellent conditioning. Smith is coming off a four-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. In order to activate him, the Ravens will have to make a roster move prior to 4 PM ET on Saturday.
Oct 5 - 1:16 PM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Jimmy Smith will be active for Week 5 if he's "in shape and practices well."

Smith is returning from his four-game suspension this week. Harbaugh did not sound overly pleased with his corner on Monday, noting he did not beat his coach to the facility. Harbaugh said he expects each of Smith, Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Carr and Tavon Young to get snaps against the Browns. Carr would have seemed to be the odd man out but has been playing well so far.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith's four-game suspension has ended.

Smith was suspended by the league for alleged "improper conduct" including "threatening and emotionally abusive behaviors" towards his ex-girlfriend. The Ravens stood by him following the suspension, however, and he should be back on the field against the Browns this week.
Oct 1 - 9:17 AM

The Ravens have no plans to move on from CB Jimmy Smith despite his suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

He was suspended by the league for alleged "improper conduct" including "threatening and emotionally abusive behaviors" towards his ex-girlfriend, which Smith essentially admitted to in his apology statement. Smith's actions are obviously concerning, but the organization isn't ready to give up on its star cornerback. "We convened a group of Ravens women and men executives, not directly involved with our football operations, to review the matter. We also engaged in conversations with Jimmy about his past behavior and his intention to change," the team said in a statement. "As a result of this entire process, we will allow Jimmy to return to our team after his suspension." Smith already appealed his suspension, so there's no chance of it getting vacated or reduced. He'll be eligible to play Week 5 against the Browns.
Aug 21 - 7:47 PM

NFL suspended Ravens CB Jimmy Smith four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

After investigating domestic violence claims made by his ex-girlfriend, the league determined that Smith exhibited a "pattern of improper conduct" including "threatening and emotionally abusive behaviors." The 30-year-old, who missed the first four games of last season while serving a PED ban, apologized for his actions. "I would like to sincerely apologize to my former girlfriend, the NFL, the Ravens organization, my coaches, my teammates, my fiancée and all our fans," he said. "I'm very disappointed that my past actions have led to this suspension." He'll be eligible to return against the Browns in Week 5.
Aug 21 - 6:00 PM

The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reports the Ravens "are bracing for" a multi-week suspension for CB Jimmy Smith.

Apparently, the team is already aware of the ban, and Smith is currently appealing it with the league. It stems from a violation of the personal conduct policy. Smith has been involved in a custody battle, and his ex accused him of illegal drug use and domestic violence last year, though no criminal charges have been handed down in the matter. Smith has missed 17 games over the past four years and was suspended four games last year for a PEDs violation.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (Achilles) practiced on Thursday.

The Ravens held their first training camp practice on Thursday. Smith was in uniform but will be "brought along slowly," according to ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley. He's about seven months removed from a torn Achilles. The 29-year-old (he turns 30 next week) earned PFF's No. 18 coverage grade out of 121 qualifiers at cornerback last season.
Jul 19 - 12:40 PM

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith avoided the active/PUP list to open training camp.

Smith made a stunningly quick recovery after tearing his Achilles' tendon last December 3, even participating at June minicamp. He appears to have been fully cleared to practice on day one of training camp. Smith is one of the biggest difference makers on Baltimore's defense. Last season, Smith graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 18 cover corner among 121 qualifiers.
Jul 16 - 5:43 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (Achilles') is participating in individual drills at minicamp.

It's a great sign after Smith tore his Achilles' in December. There was initially wonder if Smith would even be ready for Week 1, but at this point, he should be ready for training camp. Coach John Harbaugh did say in March that Smith was ahead of schedule in his rehab. With Smith, Brandon Carr, and sophomore Marlon Humphrey, Baltimore has a solid cornerback trio.

Jun 13 - 10:21 AM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said CB Jimmy Smith (Achilles) is ahead of schedule.

Harbaugh added he is counting on Smith being ready for Week 1. That is an upgrade from January, when Harbaugh said Smith's availability for the season opener was "up in the air." At worst, it sounds like Smith will be ready to go early in the season.
Mar 27 - 10:05 AM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said CB Jimmy Smith's (Achilles) availability for Week 1 is "up in the air."

Smith tore his Achilles in early December, an injury which can require a lengthy recovery. Harbaugh said he is "hopeful" Smith will be able to return for Week 1, he should be considered questionable at best right now.

Jan 4 - 11:55 AM

NFL suspended Ravens CB Jimmy Smith four games for violating the policy on performance enhancing drugs.

It is actually good timing for Smith, who was just lost for the season to a torn Achilles. He will serve his suspension while on injured reserve and be eligible to play at the start of next season. First-rounder Marlon Humphrey should take over for Smith in the starting lineup.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles' tendon and is done for the season.

This is a massive loss for the Ravens as Smith has not allowed a touchdown in coverage all season long per Pro Football Focus. Smith will now have a portion of his 2018 season compromised with the injury. First-round draft pick Marlon Humphrey had been beginning to press Brandon Carr for playing time, but will now take over for Smith as the starting right cornerback.
