Sources tell the Baltimore Sun that CB Jimmy Smith (foot) might be out until Week 12 or 13.
Smith has a mid-foot sprain, an injury that is often pesky to overcome. It takes a bit of the red flags off this Ravens defense from a matchup perspective, as Smith had emerged as one of the game's better shadow corners. Look for Dominique Franks, who gave up a key 53-yard reception to Mohamed Sanu last week, to start opposite Ladarius Webb. Oct 28 - 9:55 AM

The Ravens will be without top CB Jimmy Smith (foot) for "a few weeks."

One of the top perimeter cornerbacks in football, Smith suffered what is believed to be a mild Lisfranc sprain in Sunday's loss to Cincinnati. It's poor timing as the Ravens face red-hot Ben Roethlisberger in their next game.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is headed for a Monday MRI on his left foot.

Smith was carted off the field in the first half of Sunday's loss at Cincy and did not return. Backup Dominique Franks predictably had trouble containing Mohamed Sanu. Smith has been one of the league's best cover corners all season, consistently washing out opposing wideouts. His absence would be a major concern for the Ravens defense.
Oct 27 - 9:30 AM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was carted off the field with a foot injury in the first quarter of Sunday's Week 8 game.

Smith is considered unlikely to return due to a left foot sprain.
Oct 26 - 1:23 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith has been assigned an Oct. 7 court date for his misdemeanor disorderly conduct case.

Smith was arrested on July 12 for refusing to leave the bathroom of The Green Turtle in Towson. Smith claimed he was trying to help a woman who had allegedly overdosed on cocaine. The disorderly conduct charge carries a maximum sentence of 60 days in jail. Smith is unlikely to face any league discipline.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (chest) confirmed he expects to play in Week 1.

Smith was held out of Baltimore's final two preseason games, but returned to practice Saturday. He should be cleared for full team drills next week. The Ravens also expect to have Lardarius Webb (back) and Asa Jackson (ankle) available for the regular-season opener.
Aug 30 - 9:09 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith's chest X-rays were negative.

He should be considered day to day. With Baltimore dealing with multiple injuries to its secondary, Smith could be held out of the third preseason game.
Aug 16 - 8:23 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith suffered a bruised chest in Saturday night's preseason game.

Smith was shaken up on a pass intended for Dez Bryant in the first quarter. It's another blow to a Ravens secondary that's already without Lardarius Webb (back) and Asa Jackson (ankle). Even if the injury isn't serious, Baltimore could hold Smith out for the rest of the preseason.
Aug 16 - 7:51 PM

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley named CB Jimmy Smith the most impressive defensive player at training camp.

Smith was arrested for disorderly conduct before camp opened. He hasn't let it sidetrack him. Coming off a breakout 2013, Smith is poised to lock down one side of the field yet again. He's "repeatedly won" in one-on-one drills at camp. The Ravens need Lardarius Webb (back) to get healthy.
Aug 15 - 10:56 AM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is not expected to face discipline from the NFL following his Saturday night arrest.

Smith reportedly refused to back away from a woman who was overdosing at a bar and was charged with a misdemeanor peace disturbance. It may not even count as an offense against the personal conduct policy. Smith will line up across from Lardarius Webb when the Ravens host the Bengals Week 1.
Jul 14 - 10:06 AM

Towson (MD) police allege Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was attending to a woman who had overdosed on cocaine before his Saturday night arrest.

Smith was "trying to help" the woman, who ODed at a Towson bar. He "disobeyed orders" when medics arrived. After numerous expletives, Smith "played the 'I'm Jimmy Smith. I play for the Ravens' card," and told police "You're only doing this so you can get on the news," according to Baltimore reporter Paul Gessler. Smith has only been charged with a misdemeanor peace disturbance.
Jul 13 - 2:46 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was arrested for disorderly conduct Saturday night.

Police responded to a call about an unconscious woman in a bathroom at a bar, and Smith was cited for failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer. Smith was reportedly trying to assist the woman but wouldn't move away from her after police repeatedly asked him to do so. Smith was released from custody at 11:15 PM Saturday night and faces a misdemeanor charge. He's the fifth Raven to be arrested since last season ended. Off-field issues led to Smith falling to the 27th pick in the 2011 draft. Smith will celebrate his 26th birthday later this month.
Jul 13 - 10:10 AM

Ravens exercised RCB Jimmy Smith's team option for 2015.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Smith's option year is worth $6.898 million. Since Smith was not chosen in the first 10 picks, his option year is worth the average salary of the third- through 25th-highest paid players at his position. Smith broke out in 2013, starting all 16 games as he racked up 58 tackles, 15 pass breakups, two picks and two forced fumbles.
Apr 17 - 8:32 PM

Coach John Harbaugh confirmed the Ravens plan to exercise RCB Jimmy Smith's fifth-year option for 2015.

"We are hopeful that we can sign Jimmy long-term," Harbaugh said. "That will be our goal." A 2011 first-rounder, Smith is coming off his best season as a pro, and is still only 26 (in July). The Ravens have until May 3 to exercise Smith's option.
Mar 25 - 8:19 PM

The Ravens are expected to exercise RCB Jimmy Smith's club option for 2015.

The cost of the option is not yet clear, but the Ravens want to keep Smith long term after a breakout 2013 season. Smith set career highs in starts (16), tackles (58), pass breakups (15), interceptions (2), and forced fumbles (2). He's still ascending after a slow start to his career. Smith turns 26 in July.
