The Baltimore Sun says if all goes to plan, Jimmy Smith will start at right corner opposite LCB Lardarius Webb this season.
Smith and veteran Corey Graham will likely compete for the job, but Baltimore would like to see Smith finally step up and be a key contributor on defense with Cary Williams now out of town. Ideally, Graham would cover the slot. Smith, the No. 27 overall pick in 2011, has started just five games in his two-year career. Apr 1 - 8:57 PM

Coach John Harbaugh said he still believes CB Jimmy Smith is "really special."

Smith's first two NFL seasons have been a very rocky ride, but he stepped up in the Super Bowl with two big plays on the 49ers' final drive. "He finally got healthy at the end of the year there," Harbaugh said. "He was at his best in the last couple weeks. Jimmy is going to be, like we said all along, a great player in this league. I love him." Smith will push Corey Graham for the No. 2 job opposite Lardarius Webb this offseason.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith lasted just one half in his return to action against the Broncos.

Smith didn't appear to aggravate his sports hernia issue, but he was ineffective at less than full strength. The 2011 first-round pick was getting eaten alive by Eric Decker. "He wasn't 100 percent out there," coach John Harbaugh said. "And that's something you don't know until you get into the game. And unfortunately, he wasn't as quick as I'd hoped he would be."

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (sports hernia surgery) is expected to play on Sunday against the Broncos.

Smith, a first-round pick in 2011, has missed the last five games after undergoing surgery on November 15. Baltimore gets Smith back at the perfect time for a matchup against Peyton Manning. Corey Graham has started the previous four contests at left corner.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith practiced Wednesday for the first time since his Nov. 15 sports hernia surgery.

Smith was officially "limited" as he eases his way back in. The 2011 first-round pick is unlikely to suit up against the Redskins this week, but Week 15 looks like a possibility. The Ravens will need Smith as they have a crucial date with Peyton Manning and the Broncos that week.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith underwent sports hernia surgery Thursday morning.

Smith is expected back before the end of the season, but it's another blow to the Ravens' ravaged secondary. Smith had stepped in for No. 1 corner Lardarius Webb, who is out for the season with a torn ACL. Now Corey Graham and Chykie Brown will have to step into major roles while Cary Williams holds down the No. 1 corner spot. Fantasy owners shouldn't be afraid of the Ravens' pass defense.

Ravens LCB Jimmy Smith (groin) was absent from Wednesday's practice.

The 2011 first-round pick is supposed to take Lardarius Webb's (torn ACL) place in the starting lineup, but remains day-to-day. If Smith couldn't go, Chykie Brown would be forced to start opposite Cary Williams against the Texans. Regardless of whether Smith plays, things are shaping up nicely for a big afternoon from Andre Johnson. The Ravens' pass defense is going to be a liability going forward.

If healthy, Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (groin) is expected to replace Lardarius Webb (ACL) in the starting lineup.

Following Webb's injury, Smith came on in base packages and Corey Graham acted as the nickelback. But late in the game, Smith left with a groin injury and didn't return. Special teamer Chykie Brown was forced into action at corner. With Cary Williams struggling on the other side already, this Ravens' secondary is going to be one to attack going forward.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith reportedly shined during OTAs and minicamps.

Smith worked exclusively with the first-team defense as Cary Williams recovered from February hip surgery. The 2011 first-round pick is likely to carry that momentum into camp and should be considered the favorite to start opposite Lardarius Webb. Smith "appears ready to blossom," according to CSN Baltimore.

Jimmy Smith is expected to compete with Cary Williams for the starting corner job opposite Lardarius Webb.

Smith has the heavy edge as a 2011 first-round pick with prototypical size and speed. Williams is coming off hip surgery and projects as more of a third corner. The Ravens gave up just 11 passing touchdowns last season, best in the league.

Ravens rookie CB Jimmy Smith suffered a concussion in Baltimore's Week 17 win over the Bengals.

Limited to nickel and dime duties since Lardarius Webb shook his case of turf toe, Baltimore's first-round pick should be fine for the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Despite giving up a few big plays, Smith graded out positively by Pro Football Focus this season.

Ravens rookie CB Jimmy Smith is expected to make his first NFL start in Week 15 with Lardarius Webb (turf toe) not participating in practice.

Smith will see his most extended playing time after starting the past two games in dime and nickel packages. He's played well enough recently that the Ravens will give him chances against Vincent Jackson, particularly if he's at left cornerback. On the season, Smith has six deflected passes and two interceptions while missing the first four games with a high ankle sprain.

Ravens first-round rookie CB Jimmy Smith is ticketed for a bigger role on defense going forward.

Smith had been limited primarily to special teams after missing the majority of the first half of the season with a high-ankle sprain. First-year starter Cary Williams has struggled of late. With a shut-down skillset, Smith could be an upgrade by December.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (ankle) returned to action Monday night but only played on special teams.

Smith didn't see any time on defense even though Chris Carr (hamstring) was inactive. The No. 27 overall pick will be eased back into a reserve role behind Lardarius Webb and Cary Williams.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (high-ankle sprain) was a full participant in Friday practice.

According to the Carroll County Times, Smith's "lateral movement is still a bit limited," but he could be active for the first time since Week 1 against the Jaguars on Monday. If not, he is all but certain to make his return in Week 8 against the Cardinals.
