Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (foot) avoided active/PUP to begin training camp.
Smith suffered a Lisfranc fracture in 2014. After struggling throughout 2015, Smith underwent another foot surgery this offseason, and will be ready for training camp. A declining Ravens defense badly needs Smith to recapture his previous shutdown form. A top-20 cover corner per Pro Football Focus' ratings in 2014, Smith slipped all the way to 89th among 118 qualified cornerbacks last season. Jul 23 - 6:10 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (foot surgery) expects to be ready for training camp.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley reported Tuesday that Smith hasn't been looking good on the side field at minicamp, but Smith insists he feels fine. Coach John Harbaugh hinted Thursday that Smith is unlikely to see any preseason action. Smith started all 16 games last season, but was ineffective. The Ravens have more to lose than gain by rushing his rehab.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley reports Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (foot surgery) hasn't been moving well on the side field at minicamp.

The Ravens are hoping Smith will be ready for training camp after having a screw removed from his previously-repaired foot in April, but it's not looking like a guarantee. Coming off a Lisfranc injury, Smith had a subpar 2015, but did appear in all 16 games. Smith turns 28 next month.
Jun 14 - 3:56 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith will undergo a second surgery on his surgically-repaired foot this week to remove the screws from the first procedure.

This helps explain why GM Ozzie Newsome tried so hard to trade up to No. 4 for Jalen Ramsey. The Ravens "hope" Smith will only miss 4-6 weeks. If so, Smith should be ready for training camp. But it's obviously a concern after Smith didn't play well at all last season coming off of a Lisfranc fracture.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith said his ankle is still giving him trouble.

Smith was not reported to have an ankle injury last season, but it is possible the issue has something to do with the Lisfranc surgery he underwent in November of 2014. Smith struggled coming off that injury, and it is not a good sign he is less than 100 percent at this point in the offseason. The Ravens could look to add some corner help in the draft.
Apr 19 - 1:02 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith agreed to convert $6 million of his base salary into a signing bonus.

Smith is now scheduled to earn a $1 million base salary with a cap hit of $5.1 million. The move creates $4.5 million in cap space for Baltimore, who also restructured the deals of Marshal Yanda and Kyle Arrington in the last several days. Smith struggled last season coming off a Lisfranc injury, but he should bounce back if the Ravens can muster improved pass rush.
Mar 10 - 8:21 AM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said RCB Jimmy Smith (thigh) has a "good chance" to play Week 16 against the Steelers.

Smith injured himself on the opening drive against the Chiefs and did not return, but Harbaugh expects him to give it a go. Baltimore will need all the help they can get with Pittsburgh coming to town.

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith is done for the day in Week 15 due to a thigh injury.

The injury is believed to be to Smith's hamstring or quadriceps. The Ravens are now very thin at cornerback against the Chiefs. Smith was injured on Kansas City's opening offensive drive.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith was evasive when asked if his surgically-repaired foot is still an issue.

"People come back from injuries; they play," said Smith. "Until this season is over, I'll never talk about my foot." Smith had Lisfranc surgery in November of 2014. He recovered in time to fully participate in camp, but he has been shredded by both Amari Cooper and A.J. Green through the first three weeks of the season. This week he gets Antonio Brown. The Ravens' secondary would struggle even with Smith healthy and effective, but it will be a complete mess if Smith cannot turn it around.

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (foot) is participating as camp opens.

Smith underwent Lisfranc surgery in November, but made a fast recovery and even participated in part of the offseason program. The Ravens felt good enough about Smith's foot to give him a $48M extension in April. He'll be ready to do battle with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders Week 1.

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (Lisfranc surgery) is close to 100 percent.

Smith has been limited during OTAs and minicamp. After signing him to a four-year extension, the Ravens expect Smith to be full-go for training camp.

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from last season's Lisfranc injury.

Smith underwent surgery in November. He's been participating in "parts of OTAs," and appears fully on track for training camp. The Ravens showed their faith in Smith's health by signing him to a four-year, $48 million extension in April.

Ravens signed RCB Jimmy Smith to a four-year, $48 million extension.

According to Profootballtalk, the deal includes $21 million guaranteed. Smith is now signed through 2019. Smith was performing as one of the league's best corners last season before suffering a Lisfranc injury in Week 8. Going on 27, Smith has steadily improved over the course of his four-year career, though he has only five lifetime picks. Locking him up now is a bet that he will continue to improve. It's not an overpay. The Ravens were caught woefully short at corner last season, something they don't want to repeat going forward.

Owner Steve Bisciotti said the Ravens want to extend RCB Jimmy Smith.

Smith is making $6.89 million in the final year of his rookie deal. He graded out as a top-20 corner by Pro Football Focus last season before missing the final eight games to Lisfranc surgery. Contract-year RG Marshal Yanda and Justin Tucker are also candidates for extensions.

Disorderly conduct charges against Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith have been dismissed.

Smith was arrested on July 12 for refusing to leave the bathroom of a Maryland sports bar. He was helping a woman believed to have overdosed on cocaine. Smith's main concern remains his recovery from Lisfranc surgery.
