Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed Jimmy Smith (questionable, back) should return for Week 13 against the Dolphins.
Smith missed the last two weeks with a back injury but practiced fully and should be all set for Sunday's matchup against Miami. He's been Baltimore's best cover corner this year. It's a big boost to the Ravens' secondary. Dec 2 - 1:18 PM

Updating an earlier report, Jimmy Smith (back) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.

He should return this week after sitting out the last two games with a back injury. Smith is the Ravens' best cover corner and is usually asked to defend the other team's top wideout. Because Jarvis Landry plays in the slot, Smith will likely draw DeVante Parker in coverage Sunday against Miami.
Nov 30 - 4:52 PM

Jimmy Smith (back) returned to a limited practice Wednesday.

Smith has missed the past two games, but this puts him on track to return for Week 13 against the Dolphins. Smith would likely see a lot of DeVante Parker.
Nov 30 - 11:27 AM

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (back) is inactive for Week 12 against the Bengals.

It's an upgrade to Brandon LaFell's matchup more so than slot man Tyler Boyd's, although both have favorable Week 12 draws. The rest of the Ravens' Week 12 inactives are RB Lorenzo Taliaferro, LB Kamalei Correa, OL Ryan Jensen, OL Alex Lewis, LB Za'Darius Smith, and TE Crockett Gillmore.
Nov 27 - 11:34 AM

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (back) is listed as doubtful for Week 12.

It's an upgrade to Brandon LaFell's matchup. Rookie Tyler Boyd primarily runs his routes in the slot, so LaFell would've been at the biggest risk of drawing Smith's coverage. There is a huge drop-off in talent behind Smith on the Ravens' cornerback depth chart, beginning most notably with Shareece Wright.
Nov 25 - 2:33 PM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh hasn't ruled Jimmy Smith (back) out for Week 12 against the Bengals.

Smith sat out last week's game with a back injury and has yet to resume practicing. "It it clears up, he'll play," said Harbaugh. Smith is usually assigned to the other team's best receiver but with A.J. Green (hamstring) sidelined, the Ravens may not need him this week.
Nov 25 - 1:14 PM

Jimmy Smith (back) remains sidelined at Ravens practice.

Smith appears poised to miss his second straight game. He won't be needed against the A.J. Green-less Bengals.
Nov 24 - 2:10 PM

Ravens declared CB Jimmy Smith, CB Asa Jackson, RB Lorenzo Taliaferro, OLB Elvis Dumervil, OL Ryan Jensen, LG Alex Lewis, and TE Crockett Gillmore inactive for Week 11 against the Cowboys.

The Ravens' five "questionable" players are active and playing, including RG Marshal Yanda (shoulder). Smith's absence gives a big boost to Dez Bryant's matchup. Lewis will be replaced by John Urschel.
Nov 20 - 11:39 AM

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (back) is listed as doubtful for Week 11.

Ravens OLB Elvis Dumervil (foot) is also listed as doubtful after there was early-week optimism he would play against the Cowboys. Smith's expected absence is a huge blow against Dez Bryant, and may also make life easier on Ezekiel Elliott by forcing the Ravens to keep a safety in Bryant's area as opposed to pushing that safety into the box. Bryant is a high-ceiling play against a Baltimore defense allowing the NFL's second most touchdowns to wide receivers.
Nov 18 - 2:49 PM

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Friday RCB Jimmy Smith (back) will be a game-time decision for Week 11 against the Cowboys.

Harbaugh said "it's going to be up to the doctors" on whether Smith will be cleared to face Dallas. The fact that Smith practiced on Friday is a good sign, but Smith's health is clearly a question mark and could impact his performance in Sunday's clash with Dez Bryant. Although Smith does not have shutdown grades from Pro Football Focus, his presence in the lineup or lack thereof has been a fantasy difference maker throughout the season.
Nov 18 - 1:46 PM

Ravens RCB Jimmy Smith (back) returned to practice on Friday.

Smith was held out on Wednesday and Thursday. The back injury is clearly problematic and may cut into Smith's Week 11 effectiveness, which would strengthen Dez Bryant's matchup. Although it "feels" like Bryant has been hit or miss this season, he has at least 100 receiving yards and/or a touchdown in four of his last five games and will be an elite WR1 play against the Ravens.
Nov 18 - 1:32 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (back) did not practice Thursday

He also sat out Wednesday's practice. Coach John Harbaugh did not express any concern about Smith's status after the first missed session, but it is concerning he has now missed two in a row. Smith will need to get in some work Friday to have a shot at playing.
Nov 17 - 11:31 AM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is active for Week 7 against the Jets.

The Ravens will be without top pass rushers Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil, but their best cover corner will be available to match up with Brandon Marshall. Daily Slant: When Smith was on the field last week, Odell Beckham had just two catches for 11 yards. After he exited with a concussion, Beckham went off for six receptions, 211 yards, and two touchdowns. His presence today will definitely make things tougher for Brandon Marshall. However, the only time Geno Smith played quarterback last season he peppered Marshall with 18 passes. With limited options in the passing game, expect Geno to hone in on him again today. Even with Smith out there, Marshall will be a target monster and remains a strong fantasy option.
Oct 23 - 11:59 AM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (concussion) is questionable for Week 7 against the Jets.

If healthy, Smith could be asked to shadow Brandon Marshall. He spent most of the afternoon on Odell Beckham last week before bowing out with a concussion. Will Davis is next up on the Ravens' depth chart if Smith can't go.
Oct 21 - 3:04 PM

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (concussion) was limited at Wednesday's practice.

It's a shock he practiced at all after leaving Sunday's game with a concussion. It's unclear if he'll be ready for Week 7 against the Jets. Will Davis would start in his place if Smith can't get the green light.
