The Ravens are expected to exercise RCB Jimmy Smith's club option for 2015.

The cost of the option is not yet clear, but the Ravens want to keep Smith long term after a breakout 2013 season. Smith set career highs in starts (16), tackles (58), pass breakups (15), interceptions (2), and forced fumbles (2). He's still ascending after a slow start to his career. Smith turns 26 in July.

Jimmy Smith shadowed Calvin Johnson whenever he lined up outside on Monday night.

The Ravens typically just play sides with their corners, but they installed a new strategy to face Megatron. Smith, the No. 27 overall pick in 2011, played a very strong game. Johnson dropped two wide-open passes and finished with six catches for 98 yards, but Smith was step-for-step with him on a majority of the plays. It's a notch in the belt for a guy that had already graded out as a top-25 corner in Pro Football Focus' rankings coming into Week 15.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (concussion) has been cleared to practice, as expected.

Smith has been medically cleared following his Thanksgiving night helmet-to-helmet collision with Le'Veon Bell. PFF's No. 28 corner will be in line for his normal every-down role as the Ravens host the Vikings Sunday.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith (concussion) is expected to play in Sunday's Week 14 game against the Vikings.

Smith and Le'Veon Bell both sustained concussions when their heads collided at the goal line late in the Thanksgiving night game. Smith apparently emerged in better shape. "Everything looks really, really good for Jimmy. He should be fine," Harbaugh said. "You never know with that, but it looks like he'll be able to practice Wednesday." Smith has graded out as ProFootballFocus' No. 28 corner on the season while playing virtually every snap.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith left Sunday's loss at Cleveland with a groin injury and did not return.

It's a concern because Smith underwent sports hernia surgery last year. He was replaced in nickel packages by Chykie Brown.

The Ravens' official depth chart lists Jimmy Smith as the starting right cornerback over Corey Graham.

Graham officially started in Week 1, but the Ravens played three corners for the majority of their blowout loss to the Broncos. Graham was benched for Smith on Sunday, but still saw 38 snaps as the Ravens' nickel corner. A 2011 first-round pick, Smith has made only seven career starts thanks in part to injuries.

According to, third-year CB Jimmy Smith has "become more of a professional" this offseason.

The No. 27 pick of the 2011 draft, Smith was banged up the majority of his first two NFL campaigns, but came on during the Ravens' Super Bowl run. He's also lost 10 pounds this offseason, prompting DBs coach Teryl Austin to say he looks like a "different guy." Smith is competing for No. 2 duties with Corey Graham opposite Lardarius Webb, but all three players are expected to play a healthy dose of snaps.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Ravens CB Jimmy Smith has looked "leaner and quicker" this offseason.

DBs coach Teryl Austin says Smith has looked like a "different guy." Smith is competing with Corey Graham to start opposite Lardarius Webb, but all three players are expected to play heavy snaps. A 2011 first-rounder, injuries have limited Smith to just 23 of a possible 32 career games.

The Ravens have seen "a lot of growth" from CB Jimmy Smith.

"He seems like a different guy right now," said secondary coach Teryl Austin. Smith took up an intense boxing regimen this offseason, losing ten pounds in the process. With Lardarius Webb working his way back from a torn ACL, both Smith and Corey Graham are lining up with the starters. While who gets the job is still up in the air, both Smith and Graham figure to have pivotal roles in the Ravens' revamped defense.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is down to 200 pounds after previously playing at 210.

Smith has incorporated an intense boxing regimen into his offseason training as he prepares to earn a starting spot opposite Lardarius Webb. He's also 100 percent healthy after dealing with nagging injuries throughout last season, including a sports hernia. The Ravens are counting on their former first-round pick to play up to expectations entering his third season.

The Baltimore Sun says if all goes to plan, Jimmy Smith will start at right corner opposite LCB Lardarius Webb this season.

Smith and veteran Corey Graham will likely compete for the job, but Baltimore would like to see Smith finally step up and be a key contributor on defense with Cary Williams now out of town. Ideally, Graham would cover the slot. Smith, the No. 27 overall pick in 2011, has started just five games in his two-year career.

Coach John Harbaugh said he still believes CB Jimmy Smith is "really special."

Smith's first two NFL seasons have been a very rocky ride, but he stepped up in the Super Bowl with two big plays on the 49ers' final drive. "He finally got healthy at the end of the year there," Harbaugh said. "He was at his best in the last couple weeks. Jimmy is going to be, like we said all along, a great player in this league. I love him." Smith will push Corey Graham for the No. 2 job opposite Lardarius Webb this offseason.

Ravens CB Jimmy Smith lasted just one half in his return to action against the Broncos.

Smith didn't appear to aggravate his sports hernia issue, but he was ineffective at less than full strength. The 2011 first-round pick was getting eaten alive by Eric Decker. "He wasn't 100 percent out there," coach John Harbaugh said. "And that's something you don't know until you get into the game. And unfortunately, he wasn't as quick as I'd hoped he would be."
