Cardinals signed OT Oliver Ross, formerly of the Patriots.
Ross, 35, is only an option at right tackle at this stage of his career. Ideally, Herman Johnson or Elton Brown will beat him out to be starting RT Levi Brown's primary backup. Ross hasn't appeared in a game since 2006. Mon, May 4, 2009 12:22:00 PM

Cardinals RT Oliver Ross will undergo surgery for a torn left triceps on Thursday. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Ross, who turns 33 in September, will probably be cut next offseason. He's no longer a starting-caliber player and his base salaries are too hefty for the Cardinals to keep around. Levi Brown is the team's new right tackle.

Cardinals RT Oliver Ross is expected to miss the season after tearing his left tricep during Saturday's preseason contest.

The Cardinals will prep Levi Brown to start, but Ross' career in Arizona may be over. Ross is due base salaries of $2.8 million in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, which will be far to hefty for a backup or swing tackle.

Cardinals right tackle Oliver Ross has had $1 million of his 2007 base salary converted into incentives.

Ross' pay dropped from $2.8 million to $1.8 million but he can earn it back if he meets certain playing-time levels. This should prevent him from being released but he's likely to eventually be Arizona's swing tackle, not a starter.

Oliver Ross is currently penciled in as the Cardinals' right tackle.

Sooner than later, Ross will be replaced by No. 5 overall pick Levi Brown on southpaw Matt Leinart's blind side. Mike Gandy and Ross will likely wind up battling at left tackle to start alongside guard Deuce Lutui.

The East Valley Tribune believes tackle Oliver Ross may "regain some credibility" under new offensive line coach Russ Grimm.

Ross was benched early last season but knows Grimm from Pittsburgh. He may be a candidate to fill the void set to be left by LT Leonard Davis.

The Arizona Republic reports that RT Oliver Ross will be benched as part of several changes in the offensive line.

LG Reggie Wells is expected to move to right tackle, with RG Chris Liwienski moving to Wells' old spot at left guard. Second-round pick Deuce Lutui will move into the lineup at right guard. It's possible that the changes will help RB Edgerrin James gain positive yardage on a few more carries, but the situation isn't going to be a quick fix.
