Sam Acho said the Bears' new 3-4 scheme "couldn't be a better fit" for him.
The Bears played a 4-3 last year under Mel Tucker, but have since switched to a 3-4 with the guidance of new DC Vic Fangio. Acho played as a 3-4 outside linebacker during his four-year stay in Arizona. The 26-year-old is moving much better now that he's a full year removed from a broken leg. Acho is competing for snaps behind Pernell McPhee and Jared Allen. Jun 7 - 8:29 AM

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

Bears signed OLB Sam Acho, formerly of the Cardinals, to a one-year contract.

Acho, a 2012 fourth-round pick, has been a highly-ineffective pass rusher across four seasons, generating just two sacks the past two seasons, but he did receive positive marks from PFF for his run defense in 2014. The Bears are transitioning to the 3-4 defense and need capable bodies to bring to camp.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

ESPN Cardinals reporter John Weinfuss believes OLB Sam Acho has lost his starting spot to OLB Matt Shaughnessy.

Playing on a one-year, prove it deal, Shaughnessy was a revelation last season, recording 36 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups. Shaugnessy decided to stay in Arizona instead of moving to New England this offseason. Perhaps the opportunity to start was a contributing factor. Acho has never recreated the form he showed in his rookie season, and will be a rotational player in 2014.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

Cardinals placed OLB Sam Acho on injured reserve with a broken fibula/ankle, ending his season.

Acho suffered the injury in Arizona's Week 3 loss to Detroit. Since an impressive rookie season (seven sacks, four forced fumbles) in 2011, Acho has seemingly flatlined as a player, and was only playing about 50 percent of the snaps in new DC Todd Bowles' defense. He's signed cheaply through 2014, but the Cards need to find a more explosive edge presence in the offseason.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

Cardinals fourth-round rookie OLB Sam Acho recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in Week 12 against the Rams.

His transition from college defensive end is going swimmingly, with five sacks in five starts since taking over for a washed-up Joey Porter. Acho's surprisingly quick development bodes well for a Cardinals defense desperately in need of a young pass rusher. He should be a fixture for 2012.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

The Cardinals intend to use fourth-round pick Sam Acho at outside linebacker.

Acho played defensive end as a college senior, but actually served as an outside linebacker in his first two years at Texas. He is not an athletic freak, but did post a solid 40-time of 4.62 at the Combine while turning in a 33.5-inch vertical. The position transition should be a manageable one for him. We just wouldn't expect a starting-caliber upside from Acho.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

Cardinals selected Texas DE Sam Acho with the No. 103 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

An above-average pass rusher, Acho could have trouble settling into a position in the NFL, as he's a bit slight to stop the run as a defensive end, but perhaps not athletic enough to man outside linebacker. However, he's regarded as a strong leader with a solid football IQ, and should be able to find a niche in the desert before too long.

Sam Acho - LB - Bears

Texas DE Sam Acho ran in the 4.65 range at the Scouting Combine Monday, and also impressed in linebacker drills.

SI's Tony Pauline suggests that Acho earned consideration to kick to outside linebacker in 3-4 defenses, which would help his draft stock because he would now appeal to all schemes. Acho could get dinged a bit because he's just under the 6-foot-2 benchmark, but makes up for it with nearly 36-inch arms. He's shaping up as a quality second-round prospect.
