Jets released LB Bruce Carter.
Carter survived initial cuts but the Jets needed roster space for some of their waiver claims. The 29-year-old recorded 16 tackles over 121 defensive snaps last season. His phone probably won't be ringing off the hook with offers. Sun, Sep 3, 2017 04:53:00 PM

Jets re-signed LB Bruce Carter.

Carter was a lightly-used backup last season, tallying 121 snaps. After wallowing on the open market for two months, he will have to earn his spot on the 53-man roster.

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini expects Bruce Carter and Erin Henderson to split time at inside linebacker this season.

In this scenario, Henderson would be the early-down grinder with Carter playing a sub-package role on third downs. Both players will be tasked with replacing Demario Davis, who joined the Browns on a two-year, $8 million contract earlier this offseason.

Jets agreed to terms with LB Bruce Carter, formerly of the Bucs, on a one-year contract.

Carter also visited the Bills and Lions. Cut one season into a "four-year, $17 million" deal with the Bucs, Carter will hope to rehab his value in the Jets' unsettled linebacking corps. New York will likely have to make a roster move to fit Carter under the cap.

Free agent LB Bruce Carter is visiting the Bills on Friday.

Carter's free-agency tour rolls on in Buffalo after visiting the Jets on Wednesday and Lions on Thursday. The 28-year-old flopped in Tampa Bay last season, but the Bills have an extremely shallow linebackers unit.

Free agent LB Bruce Carter is visiting the Lions on Thursday.

He left his visit with the Jets on Wednesday without a contract. Carter was cut by the Bucs just one year into a "four-year, $17 million" deal. He will not get starter's money this time around.

Free agent LB Bruce Carter is visiting the Jets on Wednesday.

Carter was a second-round bust for the Cowboys and inked a "four-year, $17 million" deal with the Bucs last offseason only to be cut a year later. Despite the intriguing athleticism, Carter is nothing more than a depth body.

Bucs released LB Bruce Carter.

Carter lasted all of one season in Tampa Bay after signing a "four-year, $17 million" pact last March. He never took charge of a starting job, losing the MIKE gig to rookie Kwon Alexander, who went on to grade out as a bottom-three inside linebacker at Pro Football Focus. Carter played just 314 snaps. The former 2011 second-round pick hasn't been good since the 2012 campaign.

The Bucs are expected to release LB Bruce Carter on Monday.

A free agent megaflop in 2015, Carter signed a "four-year, $17 million" contract with the Buccaneers last March. He lost Tampa Bay's starting middle linebacker job to fourth-round rookie Kwon Alexander in training camp, before faring extremely poorly in three late-season spot starts on the weak side. Carter is owed a $3.5 million base salary and $750,000 roster bonus for 2016.

Bucs LB Bruce Carter (ankle) expects to play this week.

Carter missed Thursday night's loss with a sprained ankle, but he should be good to go against the Bears. This was expected after the Bucs waived backup LB Orie Lemon Saturday.

Bucs LB Bruce Carter exited Week 14 against the Saints with a foot injury.

Carter had to be carried to the locker room. The Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud reports Carter will not play Thursday night, but fellow Times writer Greg Auman said the injury is not a long-term concern. Carter is still unlikely to play Thursday night.

Bruce Carter exited the Buccaneers' Week 1 game against the Titans with a rib injury, and is questionable to return.

He suffered the injury on the game's opening kickoff. Carter backs up Kwon Alexander at middle linebacker.

The Buccaneers have moved Bruce Carter to strong-side linebacker, where he is competing with Danny Lansanah to start.

It didn't take Carter long to flop at middle linebacker, which is where the Bucs gave him a four-year, $17 million deal to play. He was quickly usurped by fourth-round rookie Kwon Alexander. Carter may end up as a lightly-used sub-package linebacker behind Lansanah, Alexander, and WLB Lavonte David.

The Buccaneers plan to use Bruce Carter at middle linebacker.

"Mike" linebacker in Lovie Smith's defense can be a high-production position, so this is news worth filing away for IDP owners. Primarily playing strong-side linebacker in Dallas last year, Carter piled up 68 tackles, one sack, and five interceptions. He will be an every-down player in Tampa Bay.

Bucs agreed to terms with LB Bruce Carter, formerly of the Cowboys, on a four-year, $20 million contract.

The former second-round pick can play both the strong side and weak side in a 4-3 defense, but will man the SAM spot in Tampa Bay with Lavonte David locked in at WILL. Last year's SLB Danny Lansanah is a candidate to kick to the middle for the Bucs, replacing free agent MLB Mason Foster. Carter has been a maddeningly inconsistent player throughout his career, but always possessed elite tools. The 27-year-old is coming off a five-interception season in Dallas.
