Seahawks placed LG James Carpenter on the reserve/non-football illness list.

It's an interesting designation in that Carpenter felt a sharp pain in his surgically-repaired knee after playing in last week's football game. John Moffitt will take Carpenter's place in the starting lineup with J.R. Sweezy moving into the backup role. OG Rishaw Johnson was promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Seahawks LG James Carpenter "felt a sharp pain" in his surgically-repaired knee on Sunday and underwent an MRI on Monday.

Seattle is still awaiting the results of the test, but the news doesn't sound all that encouraging. It's the same knee that Carpenter tore the ACL in last season. John Moffitt will fill in at left guard for as long as Carpenter is absent.

Seahawks LG James Carpenter (concussion) has resumed practicing, getting in a limited session on Wednesday.

Carpenter has yet to receive official clearance for game action, but that should come within the next 48 hours. He's been sidelined since Week 8. Fill-in John Moffitt has held his own, but Carpenter's return will be good news for the Seahawks' running game.

Seahawks LG James Carpenter (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Carpenter, out since Week 8, has yet to gain clearance to return to practice. John Moffitt (probable, knee) will make his second straight start at left guard. LB K.J. Wright (concussion) has also been officially ruled out.

Seahawks LG James Carpenter (concussion) has been downgraded to out for Week 9 against the Vikings.

With Carpenter out, John Moffitt (knee, probable) or J.R. Sweezy will get the start at left guard. Moffitt, the normal right guard, has been limited to just two games in 2012 due to injuries. Sweezy is a converted defensive lineman.

Making his 2012 debut after tearing his left ACL last November, Seahawks LG James Carpenter (knee) escaped Sunday's loss without further injury after briefly departing in the first quarter.

Carpenter tweaked his right knee, but returned just a few plays later. The No. 25 pick of last year's draft, Carpenter played right tackle as a rookie, but is manning left guard in 2012.

Seahawks G/T James Carpenter was briefly forced from Sunday's game against the Rams with a right knee injury.

Starting at left guard, Carpenter is making his 2012 debut after tearing his left ACL last November. Carpenter was seen pointing at his knee before walking off the field under his own power, and has thankfully avoided serious injury.

Seahawks G/T James Carpenter (knee) is expected to play in Week 4 against the Rams.

"It looks like James Carpenter will be ready to play in the game," head coach Pete Carroll said. Carpenter, the team's 2011 first-round pick, will be making his season debut. It comes at a good time, too, as RG John Moffitt (knee) is doubtful and RT Breno Giacomini is less than 100 percent with a pectoral issue. Carpenter has the versatility to play both guard and tackle spots.

Seahawks G/T James Carpenter (ACL surgery) returned to practice on Monday.

Offseason reports claimed Carpenter would start the season on PUP at the very least, and possibly not play all year. He's beat both those timetables. "It just stopped hurting one day, so I kept working as hard as I wanted to so I could come back," Carpenter explained. "And it happened." Once up to speed, Carpenter is expected to overtake Paul McQuistan as Seattle's starting left guard.

Seahawks activated G/T James Carpenter (ACL surgery) from the active/PUP list.

Last year's first-round pick is a candidate to be designated Seattle's one injured/reserve player who can be activated inseason. Carpenter isn't going to be ready for Week 1, but coach Pete Carroll has guaranteed he'll contribute at some point this year. Carpenter is shifting from right tackle to left guard. The same transition has gone smoothly for Willie Colon in Pittsburgh.

Coach Pete Carroll said G/T James Carpenter (ACL surgery) will "definitely" play at some point this season.

Carpenter has progressed faster than expected. Although he's a strong candidate for the PUP list, the Seahawks are expecting the 2011 first-round pick to fortify the guard spot in the second half of the season. "He has busted his tail to get back," Carroll said, "and we're really, really excited."

Seahawks 2011 first-round pick James Carpenter will be a left guard when he returns from his ACL tear.

The Seahawks drafted Carpenter to play right tackle, but he struggled there as a rookie before tearing the ACL in November. Many draft analysts suspected all along that guard would be Carpenter's ideal NFL position. "Quite frankly Breno (Giacomini) came in and did a great job" at right tackle last year, explained GM John Schneider.

ESPN's John Clayton doubts Seahawks RT James Carpenter (ACL surgery) will play a single snap in 2012.

"That knee was bad," Clayton said. "It hasn't really had a full time to heal. I think he's slow in healing. If they get four games out of him they're lucky." Carpenter will likely start the season on the PUP list, with Breno Giacomini as the starter. Giacomini more than held his own as a late-season fill-in last year.

Seahawks RT James Carpenter (ACL surgery) is expected to start training camp on the active/PUP list.

Carpenter sustained his tear in mid-November, putting his availability for Week 1 in serious doubt. The No. 25 overall pick in the 2011 draft may return as a guard, especially if his mobility is compromised. Breno Giacomini is locked in as the starting right tackle for now.
