Colts signed DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard, formerly of the Patriots, to a three-year, $25.5 million contract with $12.75 million guaranteed.
Sheard is not an dynamic pass rusher, but he is a solid all-around edge presence and was the top edge player left on the market. Turning 28 in May, Sheard has 13 sacks and four forced fumbles over the past two seasons. He did lose his starting job in New England last year, but remained part of the rotation and finished strong. At present, Sheard and John Simon would project as the Colts' two starting 3-4 outside linebackers. Mar 10 - 4:53 PM

Free agent DE Jabaal Sheard will visit the Colts on Friday.

Sheard has been linked to the Colts for a few days now and is finally heading to Indy for a visit. He met with the Dolphins on Thursday but left without a contract. If Sheard went to the Colts, he'd likely shift to outside linebacker after working as a defensive end in New England's 4-3 scheme.

Free agent DE Jabaal Sheard is scheduled to visit the Dolphins.

Benched late last season, there has not been much buzz on Sheard early in free agency, but that could change as big names come off the board. Still just 27, Sheard has 36 career sacks in 89 games including 13 in the last two seasons. The Colts are also reportedly "genuinely interested."

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts are "genuinely interested" in free agent OLB/DE Jabaal Sheard.

The Patriots reduced Sheard's role in favor of breakout player Trey Flowers last year, but he remained effective as a situational rusher, and has always held his own against the run. Going on age 28, Sheard has 13 sacks and four forced fumbles over the past two seasons. The Colts are desperate for edge-player help.

Bill Belichick said DE Jabaal Sheard has been good the last couple weeks.

Sheard did not even travel with the team for the Week 11 game in San Francisco, but he has played 44 percent and 54 percent of the defensive snaps in the last two games with seven tackles and a couple pass breakups over that span. Too good not to play for a struggling defense, Sheard should remain involved the rest of the way.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard travelled with the team to New York.

Sheard was a healthy scratch last week, but reportedly responded well in practice. It sounds like he'll play Sunday. Sheard should see limited snaps if active.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard did not travel with the team to San Francisco.

Rumors started swirling after Sheard's Instagram account posted a video from the Celtics game last night. Sheard was outstanding last season and at least part of the reason the Pats felt comfortable trading Chandler Jones, but he has steadily dropped down the depth chart this year. He played just 16 snaps on defense last week against the Seahawks, and it appears he is going to be a healthy scratch this week. In the final year of his deal, it looks like Sheard will be playing elsewhere next season.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard is not on the Week 1 injury report.

Sheard suffered a sprained MCL in New England's preseason opener. It's good news for the Patriots' defense, which will be leaned on especially heavily sans Tom Brady and has a tough test Week 1 against Carson Palmer's Cardinals.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard has a sprained MCL.

Sheard suffered the injury in the first preseason game on August 11. MCL sprains usually carry a two-to-four week timetable, so it is likely he will be ready for the season opener on September 11. With Chandler Jones now in Arizona, Sheard is perhaps the most important asset on the defensive line. The Patriots need him healthy.

Jabaal Sheard is expected to take over as the Patriots' starting right end.

The job is Sheard's to lose following the Chandler Jones trade to Arizona. After signing a two-year, $11 million contract with the Patriots last spring, Sheard was borderline dominant as a sub-package player last season. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 4 overall 4-3 end, generating eight sacks and 45 hurries on 566 snaps. He was also top-five among 4-3 ends against the run.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard (ankle, questionable) will be a game-time decision for Week 10 against the Giants.

Sheard has been sidelined since injuring his ankle Week 6 against the Colts. He had four sacks in five games before going down. Sheard's return would bolster an already stout pass rush.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard (ankle) sat out Tuesday's walkthrough.

He didn't see the field last week and probably won't be ready for Thursday night's game against the Dolphins. Sheard owns PFF's eighth-highest grade among 4-3 defensive ends despite having played only 206 snaps.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Patriots DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard's ankle injury is considered minor.

Same goes for LT Marcus Cannon's toe ailment. Both players were unable to return to the game Sunday night, but it appears like both have a chance at playing Week 7 against the Jets.

Patriots DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard left Sunday night's Week 6 game against the Colts with an ankle injury.

It's a downgrade to New England's pass rush. Sheard is questionable to return.

Patriots signed DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard to a two-year, $11 million contract with $5.5 million guaranteed.

The Pats were high on Sheard in the 2011 draft, and now they have him to enhance a pass rush that generated 40 sacks last season. Sheard stumbled as an outside linebacker in the Browns' 2014 defense, but has typically had success with his hand in the dirt, and isn't even 26 years old yet. Coach Bill Belichick should put him in the best position to succeed. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes Sheard could be a three-down player. Sheard's best position has always been base 4-3 end, so this move may hint at the Patriots playing more 4-3, particularly after losing Vince Wilfork.
