Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard is not on the Week 1 injury report.
Sheard suffered a sprained MCL in New England's preseason opener. It's good news for the Patriots' defense, which will be leaned on especially heavily sans Tom Brady and has a tough test Week 1 against Carson Palmer's Cardinals. Sep 7 - 6:00 PM

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard has a sprained MCL.

Sheard suffered the injury in the first preseason game on August 11. MCL sprains usually carry a two-to-four week timetable, so it is likely he will be ready for the season opener on September 11. With Chandler Jones now in Arizona, Sheard is perhaps the most important asset on the defensive line. The Patriots need him healthy.

Jabaal Sheard is expected to take over as the Patriots' starting right end.

The job is Sheard's to lose following the Chandler Jones trade to Arizona. After signing a two-year, $11 million contract with the Patriots last spring, Sheard was borderline dominant as a sub-package player last season. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 4 overall 4-3 end, generating eight sacks and 45 hurries on 566 snaps. He was also top-five among 4-3 ends against the run.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard (ankle, questionable) will be a game-time decision for Week 10 against the Giants.

Sheard has been sidelined since injuring his ankle Week 6 against the Colts. He had four sacks in five games before going down. Sheard's return would bolster an already stout pass rush.

Patriots DE Jabaal Sheard (ankle) sat out Tuesday's walkthrough.

He didn't see the field last week and probably won't be ready for Thursday night's game against the Dolphins. Sheard owns PFF's eighth-highest grade among 4-3 defensive ends despite having played only 206 snaps.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Patriots DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard's ankle injury is considered minor.

Same goes for LT Marcus Cannon's toe ailment. Both players were unable to return to the game Sunday night, but it appears like both have a chance at playing Week 7 against the Jets.

Patriots DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard left Sunday night's Week 6 game against the Colts with an ankle injury.

It's a downgrade to New England's pass rush. Sheard is questionable to return.

Patriots signed DE/OLB Jabaal Sheard to a two-year, $11 million contract with $5.5 million guaranteed.

The Pats were high on Sheard in the 2011 draft, and now they have him to enhance a pass rush that generated 40 sacks last season. Sheard stumbled as an outside linebacker in the Browns' 2014 defense, but has typically had success with his hand in the dirt, and isn't even 26 years old yet. Coach Bill Belichick should put him in the best position to succeed. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes Sheard could be a three-down player. Sheard's best position has always been base 4-3 end, so this move may hint at the Patriots playing more 4-3, particularly after losing Vince Wilfork.

Free agent OLB Jabaal Sheard is visiting the Patriots on Tuesday.

Sheard failed as a 3-4 outside linebacker last season, but would be tasked with getting after the passer in New England. He's also drawn interest from the Bucs, Bengals and Seahawks. Still only 26 (in May), Sheard won't be on the open market long.

The Bucs, Bengals, Seahawks and Patriots are all reportedly in the running for free agent OLB Jabaal Sheard.

As a 26-year-old who has scheme versatility, Sheard has plenty of suitors. He's shown he can stuff the run as a 3-4 outside linebacker and get after the quarterback as a 4-3 end.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi expects the Browns to let OLB Jabaal Sheard walk as a free agent.

Sheard posted a career-low two sacks as a 3-4 outside linebacker under first-year coach Mike Pettine this past season and is best-suited for a 4-3 defense with his hand in the dirt. Despite the poor pass-rushing numbers, Sheard was PFF's No. 2-ranked 3-4 outside 'backer in run defense. Just 26 (in May), Sheard should have a healthy market after posting 15.5 sacks his first two seasons.

Browns OLB Jabaal Sheard (foot) is active for Week 12 against the Falcons.

It's extremely hard to believe, as coach Mike Pettine opined on Monday that Sheard could be out for the season. He'll almost certainly be on a snap count, and is at risk of re-injury. Either way, it's a boost for the Browns as they fight for their first playoff spot since 2002. Inactive for the Browns are TE Jordan Cameron, WR Rodney Smith, WR Marlon Moore, CB Pierre Desir, CB Robert Nelson, ILB Karlos Dansby and G/T Vinston Painter.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Browns OLB Jabaal Sheard doesn't need season-ending foot surgery and should be back "in a week or so."

Big news for the Browns. Coach Mike Pettine said Monday that Sheard's season may be over. After receiving a second opinion, it was determined Sheard doesn't need surgery. He hasn't posted big pass-rush numbers in a contract year, but has graded out as a top-three run-stopping 3-4 end over at Pro Football Focus. Barkevious Mingo will likely start Week 12 against Atlanta.
Wed, Nov 19, 2014 09:08:00 AM

Speaking Monday, Browns coach Mike Pettine said OLB Jabaal Sheard (foot) could be done for the season.

Any time a coach admits a player is probably done, they're almost certainly done. It's a blow for the Browns, who are suddenly very banged up on defense. Sheard could be sent to injured reserve as early as this week. Pettine said Barkevious Mingo will see the biggest uptick in snaps in Sheard's absence.

Browns OLB Jabaal Sheard left Sunday's Week 11 game with an ankle injury.

He was deemed doubtful to return, which isn't a good sign. The Browns will use Paul Kruger and Keke Mingo as their primary outside linebackers.
