Cecil Shorts nabbed two of five targets for 51 yards and added 26 rushing yards on four carries in the Texans' Week 11 win over the Jets.
Shorts had a surprisingly eventful day. The slot receiver dropped a pair of passes on the opening drive but was actually very effective when the Texans began using him in the wildcat formation. He beat Darrelle Revis for a 15-yard gain in the third quarter and ran the flea flicker to perfection with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Alfred Blue. Shorts owns a perfect 158.3 passer rating on three career passes. Shorts has his moments but he’s nothing more than a WR4/5 in fantasy. Nov 22 - 5:53 PM

Cecil Shorts caught 3-of-7 targets for 16 yards in the Texans' Week 10 win over the Bengals on Monday night.

In his first action since Week 6 due to a balky hamstring, Shorts looked a little rusty. He dropped his first target and made no big plays over the middle. Whenever both he and Nate Washington are healthy, neither is of fantasy relevance behind DeAndre Hopkins. Shorts will be a WR5 next week vs. the Jets.
Nov 17 - 12:44 AM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) is listed as probable for Week 10 against the Bengals.

Shorts practiced in full coming off Houston's bye. He'll return to a slot role behind DeAndre Hopkins and Nate Washington. Shorts was averaging nine targets per game prior to going down.
Nov 14 - 2:40 PM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) is practicing in full this week.

He had the bye week to rest his injured hamstring and should return Monday against Cincinnati. Shorts will cut into Nate Washington's workload.
Nov 12 - 3:33 PM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) has resumed practicing.

He's expected to return against the Bengals. Shorts will likely slide in ahead of Nate Washington, but it's not a guarantee. Washington has arguably out-played Shorts this season, and the Texans know he'll stay on the field. Either way, Shorts will be in the slot in three-receiver sets.
Nov 9 - 1:54 PM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) is expected to return after the Texans' bye week.

Shorts has missed the past two games and has developed an alarming rate of soft-tissue injuries since his days with the Jaguars. With Shorts back healthy, he'll play the slot between DeAndre Hopkins and Nate Washington.
Nov 6 - 9:37 AM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 8.

The early rule out suggests Shorts is still weeks away. He will have Houston's Week 9 bye to heal up, however. Shorts' absence puts Nate Washington on the WR3 radar.
Oct 29 - 1:39 PM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) was able to do some running recently but did not practice Wednesday.

It's a step in the right direction but Shorts is still highly questionable for Sunday's tilt against Tennessee. Shorts has seen eight or more targets in four of his five games this year. Most of those targets will go to Nate Washington if Shorts can't go on Sunday, making Washington a worthwhile target.
Oct 28 - 11:54 AM

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Dolphins.

We didn't even notice Shorts get injured Week 6, but he apparently did at some point in the second half. Rookie WRs Keith Mumphery and Jaelen Strong will pick up the scraps behind target monster DeAndre Hopkins.
Oct 21 - 1:40 PM

Cecil Shorts caught 4-of-6 passes for 63 yards Week 6 against the Jaguars.

Shorts did most of his damage early against his former team, catching three of his passes and gaining 60 of his yards in the first half. Shorts was quiet as DeAndre Hopkins dominated proceedings in the second frame. If the Texans hope to continue moving the ball, that should be the plan most weeks. Shorts is getting enough targets to be in the WR4 conversation, but his inefficiency makes him a risky weekly play.
Oct 18 - 5:22 PM

Cecil Shorts (shoulder) was limited at Thursday's practice.

Shorts sat out last week's game after suffering a dislocated shoulder in Week 4. It sounds like he'll be ready to go Sunday against Jacksonville. Shorts has been targeted eight or more times in each of his four outings this year.
Oct 15 - 3:44 PM

Cecil Shorts (shoulder) returned to practice Wednesday.

Shorts dislocated his left shoulder Week 4 and missed Week 5. He recently said his recovery has been "way ahead of schedule," and this proves that. Shorts is aiming to be ready to face his former Jaguars teammates Sunday.
Oct 14 - 1:37 PM

Texans WR Cecil Shorts said he is "way ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a dislocated left shoulder.

"I feel good, I’m coming along," Shorts said. "We’ll see how things go. We’ve got to be smart about it." Shorts has been his normal, inefficient self as a Texan, but Houston desperately needs either he or Nate Washington (hamstring) to get healthy. Shorts looks like the more likely candidate to be ready for Jacksonville this weekend. Keith Mumphery and Jaelen Strong will continue to get snaps as long as Shorts and Washington are sidelined.
Oct 13 - 8:49 AM

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Friday that Cecil Shorts (shoulder) has a better chance to return than Nate Washington (hamstring) in Week 6 against the Jaguars.

O'Brien only said Shorts "might" play against Jacksonville, however, indicating that it's possible the Texans could continue to be without their Nos. 2 and 3 receivers. If you're expecting DeAndre Hopkins' absurd target totals to "regress," you can go ahead and stop that now.
Oct 9 - 4:03 PM

Texans declared WR Cecil Shorts, WR Nate Washington, RB Jonathan Grimes, S Quintin Demps, LB Akeem Dent, LB Kourtnei Brown and C Greg Mancz inactive for Week 5 against the Colts.

With Shorts and Washington inactive, fifth-rounder Keith Mumphery, and not third-rounder Jaelen Strong, will start opposite DeAndre Hopkins. Both wideouts are week to week. Mumphrey isn't a viable DFS punt play.
