The Jaguars aren't expected to re-sign impending free agent Cecil Shorts.
Neither do we. Shorts didn't make any big plays in his contract-year, failing to score a single touchdown after Week 1, and has also battled a multitude of soft-tissue injuries over the past couple seasons. He's looking like the new Miles Austin. The Jaguars will move forward with Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, and Allen Hurns at receiver and possibly add another to the mix. Shorts is unlikely to command much guaranteed money on the open market in March. Tue, Dec 30, 2014 11:31:00 AM

Cecil Shorts caught 5-of-10 targets for 47 yards in the Jaguars' Week 17 loss to the Texans.

He also tossed a 23-yard touchdown to Jordan Todman. Shorts' season ends with a disappointing 53-557-1 receiving line. Shorts battled hamstring issues all summer and ended up missing the first two games of the season. He later missed one more game, but managed to stay relatively healthy. The production wasn’t there, however. We can’t place all the blame on the quarterback because Shorts played with Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne in the past. Shorts was more hurt by the additions of Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, and Allen Hurns at receiver, making him just a part of the offense instead of the go-to guy. After torching defenses for long touchdowns the previous two seasons, Shorts had just one 50-plus-yard catch. Shorts is set to become a free agent in March. The smart money is on the Jaguars moving on without Shorts.

Cecil Shorts caught 2-of-7 targets for 15 yards in the Jaguars' Week 16 win over the Titans.

It was another brutal effort for a veteran in the midst of a disappointing season, as Shorts committed no fewer than three drops. In a sign of how Shorts' night went, one of his muffs was wiped out by an offensive pass interference penalty. Shorts won't be a recommended DFS play in Week 17 against the Texans.

Cecil Shorts caught six passes for 76 yards in the Jaguars' Week 15 loss to the Ravens.

He was targeted a game-high 11 times. Shorts' longest gain was a 30-yard grab early in the first half on third down. Shorts' six catches were his most since Week 6, while the 76 yards are his third-best mark of 2014. The Jaguars can't score touchdowns, leaving the entire offense unusable in fantasy, even in a plus matchup with the Titans in Week 16. Shorts is scheduled for free agency in March.

Cecil Shorts secured 2-of-10 targets for just three yards in the Jaguars' Week 14 loss to the Texans.

It was a horribly inefficient day for Shorts, whose receptions went for a gain of six and a loss of three. He had multiple drops and continues to disappoint in a contract year. Shorts is likely in his final year with the Jaguars.

Cecil Shorts was held to four catches for 35 yards in Week 13 against the Giants.

Shorts was a non-factor despite getting eight targets. He got most of his receptions on check downs, with a long catch of just 12 yards. Shorts hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 3, and won't be a recommended fantasy option for next week against the Texans.

Cecil Shorts (illness) is active for Week 13 against the Giants.

Shorts missed practice time with flu-like symptoms, but was listed as probable and fully expected to play. The Jaguars inactives are RB Storm Johnson, OT Sam Young, LB Jeremiah George, CB Jeremy Harris, OG Tyler Shatley, CB Teddy Williams, and DE Chris Smith.

Cecil Shorts (flu) is listed as probable for Week 13.

Shorts is the theoretical No. 1 receiver in Jacksonville's dysfunctional passing game. He's hard to trust in fantasy football leagues at this point.

Cecil Shorts (flu) returned to practice Thursday.

Shorts' case of the flu clearly isn't very severe. He'll be ready to rock against the Giants Sunday, but is difficult to trust as he comes off a 1-6-0 line at Indy last week. Blake Bortles' woes and the presence of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are major obstacles.

Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts has the flu.

On the heels of a wildly disappointing 1-6-0 Week 12 outing against the Colts, Shorts did not practice Wednesday. We'd expect him to be fine for Week 13, but he's a tough sell as a fantasy start against the Giants. Blake Bortles is regressing and Shorts could see plenty of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Cecil Shorts caught one pass for six yards in the Jaguars' Week 12 loss to the Colts.

Shorts didn't see a target until deep into the second half. One of our favorite Week 12 value plays, Shorts couldn't get anything going with Blake Bortles crumbling in the pocket and refusing to take any shots downfield. Shorts will be a WR4 against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and the Giants in Week 13.

ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco calls Cecil Shorts "the most logical player" to pick up the bulk of the production lost by Allen Robinson's season-ending foot injury.

Robinson was placed on I.R. with a broken foot on Tuesday. He had become Blake Bortles' favorite target, the go-to guy on third downs, and the Jaguars' leading receiver. Shorts and Allen Hurns will now be every-down receivers with Marqise Lee picking up extended looks in three-wide sets. Shorts hasn't scored since Week 3, but is averaging 7.5 targets per game the past four weeks. He could see double-digit looks down the stretch. Hurns may be the better bet for touchdowns.

Cecil Shorts caught 5-of-7 targets for 119 yards Week 10 against the Cowboys.

Shorts had a nice 53-yard catch-and-run down the sideline, and did a good job getting open over the middle all game. Shorts was checked for a concussion after a big hit in the fourth quarter, but was cleared. He did not return to the game. The Jaguars are on bye Week 11.

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Marqise Lee (ankle) are both active for Week 10 against the Cowboys.

Shorts tweaked his hamstring on Wednesday at practice and missed Thursday's session. He will play, but it is a reminder how susceptible he is to soft-tissue injuries. Lee is still dealing with an ankle injury, and is not on the fantasy radar as the No. 4 receiver in Jacksonville.

Cecil Shorts (hamstring) is probable for Week 10 against the Cowboys.

Shorts tweaked his troublesome hamstring Wednesday and missed Thursday's practice before returning Friday. He'll start opposite Allen Robinson, with Allen Hurns entering in three-wide sets. Shorts is averaging seven targets per game the past three weeks but isn't making any big plays or finding pay dirt.
