Eagles OG Danny Watkins is a candidate for release.
The former first-round pick is out of a starting spot after the team drafted RT Lane Johnson with the No. 4 overall pick, pushing incumbent RT Todd Herremans to right guard. Watkins has been thoroughly terrible in his two seasons. According to Pro Football Focus, Watkins has given up 31 hurries in 23 games. If he can't find a job in the NFL, the CFL's BC Lions hold Watkins' rights. May 4 - 6:55 PM

Philly Mag suggests G Danny Watkins could be a candidate for release.

Watkins, the No. 23 overall pick in the 2011 draft, has conjured up thoughts of legendary Eagles draft busts such as Mike Mamula and Jerome McDougle. It got so bad last season that he lost his starting job to a street free agent and finished out the year as a healthy scratch. Chip Kelly will make his own evaluations, but it's clear Andy Reid had given up hope. Watkins reportedly carries a $2.15 million hit if he's cut before next season.

Eagles G Danny Watkins is a healthy scratch once again in Week 17.

It's Watkins' second straight healthy scratch as he's lost the starting right guard job to street free agent Jake Scott. The Andy Reid regime has whiffed on a lot of first-round picks over the last 14 seasons, but taking Watkins 23rd overall in 2011 could go down as the worst selection. Nick Foles (concussion) is active, but will not see the field as Michael Vick gets an audition. The rest of the Eagles' inactives: WR Greg Salas, RB Chris Polk, OL Matt Kopa, TE Evan Moore, DT Fletcher Cox and LB Mychal Kendricks.

Even though Danny Watkins (ankle) is healthy, Jake Scott will continue to start at right guard.

It's another blow to the stock of Watkins, the Eagles' first-round pick last season. Scott has come off the street and solidified the offensive line, whereas Watkins was a major part of the early-season problem.

Eagles RG Danny Watkins (ankle) is tentatively expected to return for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

Watkins has been a liability for much of this season, but his return will at least be a talent upgrade for the much-maligned Eagles' offensive line. Expect him to slide back into the starting right guard spot, kicking Dennis Kelly to right tackle and King Dunlap to left tackle. That will put turnstile Demetress Bell back on the bench.

Eagles RG Danny Watkins has been dealing with ankle issues since his college days at Baylor.

Watkins, 28, will miss Monday night's game against the Saints after coming out of the team's Week 7 bye with an ankle ailment. Head coach Andy Reid described Watkins' ankle history as "chronic" earlier in the season and said he knew about the issue before the Eagles took him at No. 23 in the 2011 NFL Draft. Watkins had two sprains in each ankle at Baylor, and a source from the university told beat reporter Jeff McLane that Watkins even had a broken bone in one of his ankles during his senior season but didn't miss a game. The second-year lineman doesn't have a timetable for return.

Eagles RG Danny Watkins (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday night's game against the Saints.

Watkins is still struggling to "move laterally," but he's been horrible in pass protection in 2012 anyway. Dennis Kelly will start at right guard for the second consecutive week, and he could run with the job if he holds up.

Eagles RG Danny Watkins (ankle) is not expected to play in Monday's game against the Saints.

Watkins can't plant laterally on his sprained ankle, but the Eagles aren't rushing him anyway. The 2011 first-round pick has had a brutally disappointing season. Dennis Kelly gets another start and could run with the job if he has another solid performance.

Eagles declared LG Danny Watkins (ankle) inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Watkins was struggling badly anyway, so we wouldn't consider Dennis Kelly a real downgrade. Otherwise, the Eagles are coming out of their bye and healthy. The weather is expected to hold up reasonably well through most of this game. The rest of their inactives: QB Trent Edwards, WR Damaris Johnson, RB Dion Lewis, LB Jamar Chaney, OL Nate Menkin and DL Vinny Curry.

Eagles LG Danny Watkins is expected to be replaced in the Week 8 starting lineup by rookie Dennis Kelly.

Watkins is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury, but it's fair to wonder if this depth-chart change is based more on performance. Last year's 23rd overall pick in the draft has been destroyed in pass protection this season, and Andy Reid shook things up during Philadelphia's Week 7 bye. Kelly is a 6-foot-8, 321-pound mammoth project. He's certainly no lock to be an upgrade.

According to Pro Football Focus, Eagles RG Danny Watkins has allowed 16 QB pressures this season.

That's just not getting it done, and it's a big factor in the beating Michael Vick has taken in 2012. The Eagles offensive line will have to do a better job of protecting Vick after they return from their Week 7 bye.

Eagles RG Danny Watkins looks like a "different player" this year, notes NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah.

Jeremiah has inside knowledge, of course, as an Eagles scout last season. Watkins, the 23rd overall player in the 2011 draft, came on strong at the end of the year after starting slowly. Jeremiah believes Watkins will "help create a lot of room" for LeSean McCoy to run inside this season.

After starting the season 1-3 with Kyle DeVan at right guard, the Eagles are 2-1 since rookie Danny Watkins took over.

With Watkins and C Jason Kelce finally catching on to Howard Mudd's scheme, the Eagles' offensive line has gone from one of the shakiest in the league to one of the best over the past three games. The Eagles are No. 1 in the NFL in offense, on pace to break the 2000 Rams' record for most total yards in a season.

The Eagles will start rookie Danny Watkins over Kyle DeVan at right guard in Week 5.

DeVan was abused in Sunday's loss to the Niners, so Watkins gets his job back. The ceiling with Watkins is higher, but the No. 23 overall pick faceplanted in preseason and hasn't even been active for a game yet. He'll join LT King Dunlap, who is replacing Jason Peters (hamstring), as a new face on the offensive line this week. The Eagles' pass protection is unlikely to improve soon.

Eagles rookie RG Danny Watkins admitted that he's been overwhelmed in his first training camp.

Watkins, the No. 23 pick in the draft, has been one of the weak links along the Eagles' offensive line. Even though he's 26, he performed brutally in the preseason and has been slow to adjust to line coach Howard Mudd's scheme. Watkins will start on Sunday, but the Eagles signed ex-Colt Kyle DeVan as insurance.
