Bengals declared OG Clint Boling, CB Kelly Jennings, DB Robert Sands, LB Dantay Moch, OT Anthony Collins, TE Colin Cochart, and WR Ryan Whalen inactive for Week 5 against the Jaguars.
Boling won't suit up with veteran Bobbie Williams starting in his return from an early-season suspension. The Bengals' run blocking has exceeded expectations over the first month. Sun, Oct 9, 2011 11:37:00 AM

Bengals rookie RG Clint Boling was benched after one series in Sunday's loss to San Francisco.

The Bengals' opening drive was actually one of their better ones of the day, with Cedric Benson breaking three runs of four yards or longer to the right side. Boling was replaced by Mike McGlynn. A fourth-round pick, Boling was starting his third straight game in place of suspended Bobbie Williams. He could be shifted back to his natural position of tackle once Williams returns in Week 5.

Rookie Clint Boling will be the starting right guard in the Bengals' Week 1 game against the Browns.

"Boling is good. He’s really smart," insisted OL coach Paul Alexander. "We saw this on the horizon. He’s worked a lot with the ones." Boling played mostly tackle at Georgia, but has guard arm length at 33 1/4". He could hold his own in protection, but run blocking may be a different story right off the bat.

The Bengals will use No. 101 pick Clint Boling inside at guard.

30 of Boling's 49 college starts were at the tackle spots, but his short arms (33 1/4") make for a bitter fit inside at the pro level. Ideally, he'd develop into a solid pass-protecting left guard. As a rookie, he'll be a backup.

Bengals selected Georgia G/T Clint Boling with the No. 101 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Boling started 49 games at Georgia, 19 of them at left tackle, 11 at right tackle, and 18 at right guard. That's the kind of versatility you want to see from a "swing" reserve offensive lineman. A three-time All-SEC pick, Boling has guard-like arms at 33 1/4". He'll probably be a backup as a rookie, but could evolve into a passable starter at one of the inside spots.
