Colts ILB Nate Irving has lost nearly 30 pounds this offseason.

Coming off a 2014 ACL tear, Irving struggled to stay in shape last season, weighing in at around 260 pounds. "My weight ballooned up and that has affects on your knee and your muscles around it," Irving said. "[My knee] feels way better. I’m not as sluggish. I feel great." Now close to full health, Irving will battle Sio Moore for the starting job opposite D'Qwell Jackson.

Nate Irving and Sio Moore will compete for a starting spot at inside linebacker.

D'Qwell Jackson is locked in as one of the starters, leaving the other inside linebacker job up for grabs. Irving specializes in stopping the run while Moore is more athletic and can pressure the quarterback. Irving wasn't himself last year after suffering a torn ACL in 2014, but coach Chuck Pagano said he's looked much healthier at OTAs.

The Indy Star's Stephen Holder believes ILB Nate Irving is the "guy to watch" as the Colts look to replace Jerrell Freeman.

Freeman signed a three-year deal with Chicago in free agency. Irving played just 106 snaps last season coming off a torn ACL in 2014, but he should be back to full health this season. A solid all-around linebacker with the Broncos, Irving coming back healthy could help fill one of the biggest holes on the roster.

Nate Irving and Sio Moore top the Colts' list of in-house replacements for Jerrell Freeman.

Freeman landed a three-year deal with Chicago on Saturday, leaving big shoes to fill at inside linebacker. The Colts signed Irving as an insurance policy for D'Qwell Jackson last offseason but knee and wrist injuries limited him to 106 snaps. The Colts could address their need in free agency by signing someone like James Laurinaitis or Stephen Tulloch.

Colts ILB Nate Irving (knee) believes he will be ready Week 1.

Irving has been participating in team drills in camp and could see action in the team's fourth preseason game. D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman should open the year as the starters inside, but Irving should see plenty of snaps in a situational role. Irving tore his ACL last November.

The Colts plan to use ILB Nate Irving (knee) in a situational role.

"I think he’ll find a way on the field," LB coach Jeff FitzGerald said. "He fits perfectly. He’ll work in some specific packages and he’ll be the starter in those packages." D’Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman project to get the majority of snaps inside, with Irving playing on run downs. Irving is in the final stages of his ACL recovery. The Colts expect Irving to be cleared for individual drills next week.

Colts ILB Nate Irving (ACL) could be ready for the start of training camp.

Coach Chuck Pagano said Irving is "ahead of schedule." Signed to a three-year deal in March, Irving should provide an early-down run stopper to complement D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman when healthy.

Colts signed ILB Nate Irving, formerly of the Broncos, to a three-year, $9.25 million contract.

A torn ACL cut Irving's 2014 season in half, but he was having a fine year before the injury. He finished 22nd out of 60 qualifiers in Pro Football Focus' inside linebacker rankings. Teams ran all over the Colts last season and Irving can help in that area. D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman will hold down the fort at linebacker until Irving is healthy enough to contribute.

Free agent ILB Nate Irving is visiting the Colts on Monday.

Irving visited the Cardinals last week. Irving was having a nice 2014 for the Broncos before tearing his ACL in November. He'd be a depth signing for the Colts who could contribute down the stretch.

Free agent ILB Nate Irving is scheduled to visit the Cardinals.

The Cardinals aren't done at inside linebacker despite already agreeing to terms with Sean Weatherspoon. Irving won't be expensive as he comes off a November ACL tear. He brings run-stuffing ability to the table.

ESPN's Bill Williamson suggests the Raiders could reunite free agent ILB Nate Irving with head coach Jack Del Rio.

Del Rio served as Irving's defensive coordinator in Denver. With Nick Roach's (concussion) future up in the air, the Raiders have incentive to sign a linebacker. We have Irving ranked eighth among free agent inside linebackers.

According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, free agent MLB Nate Irving is generating interest despite suffering an ACL injury in November.

A return to the Broncos seems unlikely given their other priorities this offseason, but there's always a market for elite run-stoppers. Irving was really hitting his stride before the injury, collecting a career-best 46 tackles in eight games. At age 26, the former NC State linebacker should have plenty left in the tank.

Broncos placed MLB Nate Irving on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

LB Todd Davis has been claimed off waivers from the Saints in a corresponding roster move. The Broncos never revealed the full extent of Irving's Week 9 injury, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the "initial diagnosis" was a sprained MCL. It's apparently more serious than that. Steven Johnson has seen the biggest increase in snaps in Irving's absence. Going on 26, Irving is headed to the open market. He's an able run stuffer.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the "initial diagnosis" for Broncos MLB Nate Irving is a sprained MCL.

If further testing confirms, it will be a bullet dodged for the Broncos, as Irving looked like a player who was done for the season when he went down against the Patriots. Either way, Irving will be sidelined at least 2-4 weeks. Rookie Corey Nelson took Irving's place in Sunday's loss to New England.
