Second-year CB Curtis Marsh opened Eagles camp working as the team's first-string right cornerback on passing downs.
Marsh got some first-team reps during OTAs, but this was a bit out of the blue. The first-team nickel set had Marsh at right corner, Nnamdi Asomugha in the slot, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on the left side. Asomugha struggled in the slot last year, but the Eagles may be trying to weed out Joselio Hanson. Fri, Jul 27, 2012 12:24:00 PM

Eagles second-year CB Curtis Marsh worked in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's left corner spot with DRC missing Monday's OTA practice.

Rodgers-Cromartie missed for personal reasons. Marsh, the 90th overall pick in last year's draft, reportedly made several nice plays in coverage and it appears he'd be first in line to start if DRC missed any regular season time.

Eagles rookie CB Curtis Marsh has looked nothing like a developmental project early in training camp.

The Eagles weren't expecting much out Marsh this year, but the reports out of camp have been overwhelmingly positive. Drawing comparisons to former Eagles corner Bobby Taylor, Marsh is "tall, rangy, athletic and very smart." He won't be any higher than fourth on a stacked depth chart.

Eagles signed No. 88 overall pick Curtis Marsh to a four-year contract.

Marsh is expected to face an elongated transition period after playing only two years of cornerback at small-school Utah State, but the Eagles view him as a potential starter down the road. Unless Marsh shows capable of contributing on special teams in his rookie season, he'll risk being a game-day inactive.

The Eagles don't expect No. 90 overall pick Curtis Marsh to compete for a starting job until his third season.

Marsh certainly has a starter-caliber skill set, but the former college running back will take time to develop after playing just two seasons of corner at Utah State. He could be the eventual replacement for Asante Samuel, who will be 32 years old and owed a whopping $10.4 million by Marsh's third season.

Eagles coach Andy Reid believes third-round CB Curtis Marsh will develop quickly with enough upside to be a starter in Philly.

"What you're getting is a guy who is big, strong, physical, fast and very, very intelligent," said Reid. Marsh just moved to corner two years ago, but he was already showing vast improvement is press man coverage by the end of last season. He has prototypical size and length for an NFL starter.

Eagles traded up with the Ravens to select Utah State CB Curtis Marsh with the No. 90 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

A high-cut former running back with long arms and tight hips, Marsh didn't begin playing cornerback until 2009. He has nice size and athletic ability, but he still needs quite a bit of work on his mechanics and timing. Marsh did show impressive improvement throughout last season, though. He's an interesting project for new coordinator Juan Castillo.
