Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (ankle) says he is at about "80 percent."
McCarthy's 2012 season was marred by a Week 1 ankle injury and a Week 12 concussion. It resulted in him only playing seven games and registering 38 tackles. He expects to be 100 percent for training camp. McCarthy won't be handed the starting job, but there's no reason why he shouldn't win it if healthy. May 22 - 12:31 PM

Date:

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy underwent ankle surgery earlier this offseason.

Details are scarce, but McCarthy has already resumed running. He's likely just recovering from a routine cleanup procedure, and should be 100 percent well before camp. McCarthy missed time with a high-ankle sprain last season before a concussion knocked him out for the year in Week 12.

Titans placed MLB Colin McCarthy on injured reserve with a concussion, ending his season.

FB Collin Mooney has been promoted from the practice squad. Plagued by a concussion since Week 12 and a high-ankle sprain before that, McCarthy will finish 2012 with just seven appearances and 388 snaps. When he was on the field, he was one of the worst middle linebackers in the league, failing to hold his own against the run. McCarthy was much better during his rookie campaign in 2011, however, and should have the inside track on the Titans' middle linebacker job heading into 2013.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 17 versus the Jaguars.

McCarthy's 2012 season was marred by a high-ankle sprain suffered in Week 1, and then by a Week 12 concussion. He played in just seven games, recording 38 tackles and one interception. McCarthy will be an IDP to monitor for the 2013 campaign.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) is expected to return for Sunday's game against the Packers.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Monday night versus the Jets.

With the Titans being extra cautious with him, McCarthy hasn't played since suffering the concussion in Week 12. The 24-year-old has played in just seven games this season after being sidelined earlier in the year with an ankle injury. Head coach Mike Munchak is chalking it up to bad luck. Tim Shaw will start in the middle once again this week for Tennessee.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) is not expected to play Monday night against the Jets.

Tim Shaw will get another start. Coach Mike Munchak said Friday that the Titans are trying to be as cautious as possible with McCarthy, who hasn't played since Week 12. Tennessee has him under contract cheaply through the 2014 season.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 14.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (concussion) has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Texans.

It's a concern for Tennessee's run defense, but a boost for WLB Zach Brown's IDP prospects. McCarthy was concussed in last week's loss to Jacksonville.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars and did not participate in Wednesday's practice.

An unexpected development, especially considering McCarthy played 65-of-65 defensive snaps for the Titans in Week 12. The Titans have yet to specify a timetable for his return, but his chances of suiting up for Sunday's home tilt against the Texans don't look good. If McCarthy sits, Zach Brown would likely slide into the every-down role for Tennessee. Brown is coming off a double-digit tackle, two-sack performance against the Jaguars. IDP owners in a pinch will want to take a long look at Brown.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (ankle) practiced in full Monday.

As the Titans come out of their bye, McCarthy's ankle is thought to be feeling as good as it has since his injury. The talented middle 'backer has 36 tackles and one interception in six games this year. "(The ankle) is something he'll have to deal with until next year," coach Mike Munchak said. "But I think as far as (getting to) the level of being more like himself, I think he's feeling closer."

Colin McCarthy (questionable, ankle) will play in Sunday's game against the Colts.

He was able to practice Wednesday and Friday this week, and is set to resume his customary, every-down role in the Titans' defense. LB Will Witherspoon (hamstring) returned to practice Friday and is officially listed as questionable.

Titans MLB Colin McCarthy (ankle) has resumed practicing and is likely to play in Week 8.

McCarthy was held out last Sunday after aggravating his ankle injury in Week 6. While he's likely not 100 percent yet, the fact that he's practicing is a sign that he's moving in the right direction. If McCarthy does play, expect him to assume the every-down role along with SLB Akeem Ayers in the Titans' nickel subpackages.

Titans declared MLB Colin McCarthy (ankle) inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.

McCarthy aggravated his ankle injury against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football in Week 6 and isn't ready for this one despite the long week. Zac Diles draws the start at middle linebacker. With winds swirling in Buffalo, look for the Bills to pound Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller. The rest of the Titans' inactives: QB Jake Locker (shoulder), RB Javon Ringer, CB Tommie Campbell, T Byron Stingily, G Deuce Lutui and WR Lavelle Hawkins.
