Panthers placed KR Kealoha Pilares (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Pilares went down during Sunday's win over the Redskins and will need surgery. His second NFL season ends with two catches for 42 yards and nine kickoff returns for 216 yards. Joe Adams figures to carry the load in the return game going forward. Tue, Nov 6, 2012 11:18:00 AM

Panthers KR Kealoha Pilares was forced from Sunday's game with a shoulder injury.

"I know it's something with his shoulder," coach Ron Rivera said. "But I will know more when the trainers get an opportunity to look at him." Rookie Joe Adams could make his way out of Rivera's doghouse if the injury keeps Pilares out versus the Broncos in Week 10.

Panthers declared WR Kealoha Pilares, QB Jimmy Clausen, CB Brandon Hogan, LB Jason Phillips, LB Omar Gaither, G Bryant Browning, and WR Darvin Adams inactive for Week 13 against the Buccaneers.

Pilares has been Carolina's primary kickoff returner this season. The Panthers are otherwise healthy heading into Sunday's division game.

Panthers rookie WR Kealoha Pilares (ankle) has resumed practicing this week.

Pilares is recovering from a late-August high ankle sprain and expects to play Sunday against the Packers. It's a good sign that the Panthers elected not to stash him on injured reserve this year, but he won't have a significant role in the offense.

Panthers GM Marty Hurney indicated that rookie WR Kealoha Pilares will make the roster despite a high ankle sprain that will sideline him for a month.

It speaks to the strong training camp turned in by the former Hawaii star. David Clowney "really stood out" in the preseason finale, and Armanti Edwards is locked in despite killing two drives with drops Thursday night. The Panthers may end up keeping six receivers.

Panthers fifth-round rookie WR Kealoha Pilares suffered a high ankle sprain in Tuesday's practice.

It's looking like it's going to be a "redshirt" year for Pilares, who is a good bet to end up on injured reserve before Saturday's cuts. The Hawaii product was too raw to make an impact this season anyway.

Fifth-rounder Kealoha Pilares is beginning to show separation from the crowd as one of the top five receivers in Panthers camp.

Considered a natural in the slot, the former Hawaii star is behind Steve Smith, Legedu Naanee, Brandon LaFell, and Armanti Edwards. Coach Ron Rivera is impressed by Pilares' "big-play ability" and "the run after the catch." He looks like the future No. 3 in Carolina.

Panthers selected Hawaii WR Kealoha Pilares with the No. 132 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Another highly productive Hawaii receiver, Pilares is a converted running back still learning the ropes at wideout. He'll need work on his route running, but Pilares projects as a difficult-to-tackle slot receiver in Carolina. NFL Network's Mike Mayock and Sporting News' Russ Lande both believe he can emerge as a starter down the line. Pilares tore his PCL in the Hawaii Bowl, but he's expected to be recovered by training camp.
