Jets signed CB Buster Skrine to a four-year, $25 million contract with $13 million guaranteed.
The Jets are players for all the top-flight corners, including Antonio Cromartie and Darrelle Revis. They'll at least land Skrine, who was PFF's No. 82 corner last year while playing opposite Joe Haden. He can play both the slot and the perimeter, and is entering his age-26 season. Skrine will be a nice get if he can clean up the penalties. Mar 10 - 4:12 PM

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Jets and free agent Buster Skrine have mutual interest.

New York's approach to free agency is quite simple: land a top cornerback or die trying. Add Skrine's name to a list that already includes Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. Byron Maxwell had been an option for the Jets as well prior to signing with Philadelphia. With over $43 million left in cap space, the Jets won't go quietly. If Revis and Cromartie pass, expect New York to go all-in for Skrine.

"Several league sources" tell the Cleveland Plain Dealer that free agent CB Buster Skrine will be "highly sought after."

Skrine has maintained an open dialogue with the Browns, but is expected to reach free agency. Capable of manning both the slot and perimeter, Skrine is one of the highlights of an unappetizing corner market. Ideally, Skrine would remain in the slot, but he's still only 26 (in April). His game is projectable.

Free agent CB Buster Skrine is believed to be seeking $6.5 million per year.

It would presumably be a tough price for the Browns to pay after they made Joe Haden a $12-plus million-per-year player last offseason. Skrine's asking price may be a bit aggressive, but we don't doubt he'll get paid as a versatile corner who can play man coverage. Skrine doesn't turn 26 until April.

Coach Mike Pettine said at the Combine that the Browns want to re-sign free agent CB Buster Skrine.

Skrine may have different plans as one of the top young corners on a weak cornerback market. The Browns already have well over $11 million per year committed to Joe Haden. Skrine may command $5-plus million annually.

Free agent CB Buster Skrine told Sirius NFL Radio that he intends on testing the open market.

Although Skrine gave up production playing opposite Joe Haden in Cleveland, he's likely to be viewed as an ascending corner in free agency. He's not yet 26 years old and is capable of playing both perimeter and slot corner. There is some young Brent Grimes to Skrine's game. Grimes also gave up a fairly generous amount of production early in his career with the Falcons.

Browns nickel CB Buster Skrine is recovering from thumb surgery, but expected to be ready for Week 1.

Barring a setback, Skrine will man the slot with Joe Haden and rookie Justin Gilbert lining up outside.

Browns CB Buster Skrine will focus exclusively on slot corner this season.

Justin Gilbert was drafted eighth overall to plug the revolving door opposite Joe Haden. It puts the 5'9/185 Skrine back in a more natural inside role. Skrine was among the worst every-down corners in the league last year, getting exposed as a weekly matchup to attack by savvy fantasy players.

Browns CB Buster Skrine was forced from Cleveland's Week 17 game against the Steelers with a shoulder injury, and will not return.

Skrine was hurt trying to tackle Le'Veon Bell in the first half. He was ruled out at halftime. With Joe Haden inactive, the Browns are now without each of their top two corners.

Browns CB Buster Skrine left Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Steelers with a rib injury and did not return.

Skrine is a big piece of the Browns defense because most teams try to avoid Joe Haden. If he can't play against the Jags in Week 13, Chris Owens would likely draw the start.

Buster Skrine has won the Browns' starting right corner job.

Skrine edged out Chris Owens, who will still play a ton as the Browns' No. 3 corner. It's one of the few holes in an underrated defense as Skrine graded out 78th among 113 corners in ProFootballFocus' rankings last season. Joe Haden is expected to shadow No. 1 receivers, starting with Mike Wallace on Sunday.

Browns CB Buster Skrine has "held down" the starting job opposite Joe Haden so far in camp.

Skrine is leading a three-way battle that includes Chris Owens and Leon McFadden. He's playing outside in base formations and moving into the slot for nickel sets. But according to ESPN Cleveland, Owens is the one standing out. Both corners will be on the field plenty this season. McFadden has "a long way to go."

ESPN Cleveland believes Buster Skrine will "at worst" be the Browns' nickel corner.

Skrine is splitting first-team outside corner reps with Chris Owens at OTAs. Eventually, third-round rookie Leon McFadden will get in the mix. This spot opposite Joe Haden is a major hole for an otherwise sound Browns' defense. Skrine graded out negatively over 745 snaps last year.

Browns DC Ray Horton says CB Buster Skrine has been getting some looks at safety.

"[Skrine] is one of those hybrid players that is playing corner, nickel, penny, safety," Horton said. "He’s a dynamic player that can play more than one position. If you can do that in the Cleveland Browns defense it opens up a versatile attack." The Browns have a gaping hole at free safety, and they're trying anyone and everyone at the position to find the best fit.

The new Browns coaching staff does not envision CB Buster Skrine as a starter.

Ray Horton's staff thinks Skrine "may" have a future as a nickel or dime back, but they're still in the market for a starter opposite Joe Haden. Skrine was stretched in six starts last year, struggling mightily in coverage. He's been better as a slot corner. Skrine has just one interception through 32 career games.
