Redskins waived SS DeJon Gomes.

Gomes appeared in 30 games over the last two years for the Skins, compiling 75 tackles and one interception. His inability to improve in coverage led to him losing out to Jordan Pugh and Jose Gumbs.

Redskins SS DeJon Gomes suffered a partially torn MCL in his left knee during Sunday’s win over the Eagles.

Gomes has a Grade 2 sprain, so there's a chance he won't miss any time. He hasn't started since Week 3 of the regular season. The Redskins would likely turn to Jordan Pugh as their rotational safety if Gomes is ruled out.

Redskins S DeJon Gomes left Sunday's Week 16 game against the Eagles with a left knee injury.

The Redskins' secondary has been in flux as Josh Wilson briefly missed some time after getting shook up early on as well. Gomes is officially questionable to return.

Redskins S DeJon Gomes is expected to take over as the team's starting strong safety with Brandon Meriweather (knee) out for the season.

Gomes, in his second season out of Nebraska, started the first three games of the season with Meriweather out but was quickly replaced in the lineup by veteran Reed Doughty. Washington coaches are giving him a second chance, though. Pro Football Focus grades Gomes well below average against the run.

Redskins S DeJon Gomes left Sunday's game against the Giants in the first quarter with a chest/neck injury, but quickly returned.

Gomes went down while covering the opening kickoff and was taken off gingerly. It looks like he just got the wind knocked out of him.

The Redskins will start fifth-round rookie SS DeJon Gomes over LaRon Landry for the final three games.

Landry is not expected to play again this year thanks to groin and Achilles issues. Gomes has started two games this season, recording 19 tackles and one pass defensed in those contests.

Redskins signed fifth-round DB DeJon Gomes to a four-year contract.

The versatile Gomes can play anywhere in the secondary, but is expected to focus on free safety for now. He did play some linebacker at Nebraska, so we know he's capable of filling the box. For now, Gomes will focus on special teams.

Coach Mike Shanahan indicated that fifth-rounder DeJon Gomes will start his NFL career at free safety.

Gomes played both safety spots in addition to cornerback and linebacker at Nebraska. "He does have the ability to play nickel, play inside [at strong safety], as a linebacker," said Shanahan. "He's a very smart, heady player." Gomes will have to hone his special teams skills to get on the field as a rookie.

Redskins selected Nebraska SS DeJon Gomes with the No. 146 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

A JUCO transfer, Gomes spent two years with the Cornhuskers, serving in a linebacker/defensive back hybrid role. He had an impressive seven interceptions in those two campaigns, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention as a senior. At the Combine, Gomes measured in at 6'0/208 and ran a 4.53 forty time. He looks like a backup strong safety/special teamer sort of prospect.
